To improve women’s health throughout the nation, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health created National Women’s Health Week, which begins on Mother’s Day each year.
This annual observance strives to empower women to learn about their health and the many services available to them.
It is highly encouraged that women use this week to start a new way of living. To adapt a lifestyle that leads to more preventative screenings, being more active, eating healthier, paying closer attention to mental and physical health, quitting smoking, and even stopping phone use while driving.
If you’re looking to kick-start a new, healthier lifestyle in honor of Women’s Health Week, schedule an appointment with one of SouthCoast Health primary care physicians today or give us a call at 912-691-3600.

YMCA branch pools open that weekend for the summer season.
In conjunction with Healthy Kids Day, YMCA of Coastal Georgia is partnering with Totes to Tots for a backpack/suitcase drive at all the Chatham County branches (Habersham, West Chatham, Tybee, Islands) plus the Richmond Hill and Effingham branches. SouthCoast Health patient and cancer survivor Bernice Watson (pictured above) has one message for you: Never miss your annual check-up.
This retired school teacher says being diligent about her screenings likely saved her life.
In late 2016, a mammogram revealed a suspicious lump and the subsequent biopsy confirmed the bad news. Watson had Stage 2B breast cancer.
Your annual physical can be among the most important events of your year.
“It’s so important to keep your appointments,” SouthCoast Health patient and cancer survivor Bernice Watson also insists, “and I take every opportunity I can to remind other women to do the same. Early detection was the key to my good outcome.”
Learn more about why you need an annual physical here.
If you’re due for your annual physical, or want to begin a yearly relationship with one of SouthCoast Health’s physicians, visit SouthCoast Health online to schedule an appointment, or call 912-691-3600.

SouthCoast Health experts explain here how to watch out for diet fads in the world of social media.
SouthCoast Health Dietetic Counselor Rebekah M. Laurance says: “It’s always a great idea to watch what you eat in the way of ensuring you stack your plate full with lean proteins, fruits, veggies, and whole grains. However, it’s not a great to limit what you eat and torture yourself when it comes to your diet. But that can be confusing to understand when celebrities or influences swear certain diets are the only way to get the body you’ve always dreamed of.”
