Thanksgiving Weekend 2022 Events @ Old Fort Jackson, Savannah

Old Fort Jackson’s dynamic, living history presentations take place from 10 AM until Noon, and from 1 until 3 PM each day.

Fri. Nov. 25: there will be portrayal of Union and Confederate Soldiers who fought in the Battle of Honey Hill, South Carolina, on Nov. 30th, 1864. These soldiers included the 55th Massachussetts Volunteers, who eventually served at Old Fort Jackson. Experience renowned rifle musket and cannon firings, along with battlefield surgery presentations.

Sat. Nov. 26: there will be a portrayal of Union and Confederate Soldiers and Civilians from Savannah. Hear the story behind the history of Thanksgiving as celebrated in 1864. Experience firing of the mighty 32 Pounder Cannon. Local musicians from Bella Harmony Music, period dancing as well! In the afternoon, participants will portray civilians on the homefront, along with the Savannah Republican Blues, plus the renowned Infantry and Artillery Drill, and Battle Drill with guests.

Diesel train rides @ Georgia State Railroad Museum, Savannah

Diesel train rides at Georgia State Railroad Museum in Savannah this weekend!

Train rides will be at 10AM, 11AM, Noon, 1PM, 2PM, and 3PM, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Seating is limited and is first-come, first-served. Visitors must pick up boarding passes in the gift shop before boarding.

SouthCoast Health presents 14^th annual United Way Turkey Trot in Savannah on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2022 at Daffin Park.

SouthCoast Health has been the title sponsor of the event since it started back in 2009.

The FREE Kids-K kicks off the tradition at 8AM. This 400-yard race is perfect for children eight years old or younger, and it’s free with no registration required. At 8:15 AM the Diaper Dash will start, with children ages two and under running 40 feet.

The main run and walk of the 4-mile course begins at 8:30 AM. 

After the races, participants are invited to a post-race awards ceremony hosted at Daffin Park where they can enjoy food and beverages. The ceremony will include prizes for the top three overall male and female racers, the top three male and female racers in each age group, and additional awards such as the largest family, runner from farthest away, most senior, most junior, and best costume.

Poppell Farm gates will open at 10AM this Sun. Oct. 30 to accommodate children with special needs and their families.  Farm and hayride music will be turned off and all loud noises will be minimized. There will be no large crowds or long lines. The hayride will be constantly running to avoid wait times.

Monsters of all ages are invited to Skidaway Island State Park in Savannah on Sat. Oct. 29 2022, 11AM-6PM for Marsh Monster Masquerade, featuring a spooky mask decorating contest for children and adults, children’s pumpkin decorating, a dog costume contest, fair-style games, prizes, and more.

Trunk-or-treat from 4-6PM will cap off the evening. Don your costume and bring the whole family to enjoy the marsh views, plenty of Halloween candy, and a haunting good time in the park!

Sunrise Rotary Club’s Trick or Trot 5K/10K is Sat. Oct. 22 @ Islands YMCA

Get your ready for Sunrise Rotary Club’s Trick or Trot 5K/10K.

This event raises funds for local charities and the Georgia Rotary Scholarship Program.

Sat. Oct. 22 2022 at 8AM at the Islands YMCA – 66 Johnny Mercer Blvd. – Whitemarsh Island.

Wag-O-Ween Weekend 2022 is a pet-friendly community event that takes place in downtown Savannah and attracts 1000+ yearly participants.

This year’s event will take place over two days – Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 22-23 2022, from noon-5PM – to allow for a less-crowded trick or treat route and social distancing at treat stops.

The 17th annual Wag-O-Ween pet trick-or-treating fundraising event will feature treat stops between the Savannah River and the Starland District. Humans and dogs alike are encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes and follow their map to participating local businesses, which will be giving out dog treats and goodies.

2022 swag bags, wristbands, and maps will be available for purchase both Saturday and Sunday at WoW registration booths ands pre-order

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Sara Portman Community Fund for spay/neutering, education, and more. The remaining money raised will continue to support local animal rescues in their mission to place animals in “furever” homes and support community education efforts.
