Check out the fall art youth art classes offered at Savannah’s Telfair Museums. We are particularly excited about the Sketch-Booking for the family class on Saturdays. We always hear from work-outside-the-home moms begging for more Saturday parent-and-me classes. This Sketch-Booking one is perfect. |A great class for anyone that likes to draw but is scared to draw people or just interested in trying. This one day class will explore the basics of drawing Portraits in charcoal. Working from life students will gain an introduction observational measuring and proportion, as well methods for organizing approaches to complex subjects. Emphasis will be placed on creating volume, light, and shape with value, as well as additive and subtractive use of charcoal. All materials provided.|

November 9, 2013. Strides to Rides Charity Walk at Lake Mayer. Registration and activities (such as duck pond and face painting) will begin at 11 am and the walk will begin at noon. Teams are encouraged and the biggest rider team PRE-REGISTERED (with at least 10 members) gets a free session and the biggest non-rider team PRE-REGISTERED (with at least 10 members) gets a $100 restaurant gift card. The Chatham County Health Department’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) is partnering with the St. Joseph’s/Candler Mobile Mammography Program to offer free mammograms and pap tests in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The services will be offered at the Chatham County Health Department midtown location at 1602 Drayton Street. BCCP is a program that provides breast and cervical cancer screening to low income, uninsured, or underinsured women. Women who are 40-64 years old are eligible for the program.
Appointments are encouraged but a limited number of walk-ins will be accepted. To make an appointment or for more information on BCCP, call 912-651-3025.
2013 Buddy Walk & Family Fun Festival

The eighth annual fundraiser benefits the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS). Registration is $12 per person or $40 for a family of four. For more information, contact John or Candy Bogardus at 912-728-8505.
The walk begins at 10 AM. The Family Fun Festival, which starts immediately following the walk, will feature a variety of activities such as face painting, pumpkin painting, the BOO Boutique, bouncy houses, games, music and refreshments and last until 2 PM.

The annual walk helps to fund programs such as Camp Buddy Summer Camps and many other services right here in the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire. The Buddy Walk welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. Bring your carriage, strollers, wheelchairs, little red wagons and pets.
About the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society: The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) is a support group to benefit people with Down Syndrome and their families through local leadership in support, outreach, education and advocacy. Meetings are held every 4th Tuesday of the month, typically with a guest speaker and social time for families to meet and interact with one another. People are encouraged to bring their children.
