City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs is now registering students for Session I Classes and Workshops.
Day and evening sessions are offered for children, teens, and adults in all skill levels. Sessions began January 20 and run through February 28 and are held at the Department of Cultural Affairs Arts Studios located at 9 W. Henry St.
Three week and six week classes are available as well as weekend workshops. Visual arts sessions include ceramics, metals, glass, jewelry, painting and drawing. New this session, are classes in Beginning Jewelry Design and Beading, Monochromatic Portrait Drawing, Watercolor and Basic Drawing, and Thrown and Altered Handles and Feet for your ceramic works.
Class fees include instruction, use of studio space, use of equipment and all materials and tools required. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Credit cards are accepted. The city also offers one and two day workshops began January 7 and run through January 14. All workshops will be held at the Department of Cultural Affairs Arts Studio located at 9 W. Henry St. This variety of workshops, taught by skilled professionals, is offered for children, teens, and adults in all skill levels. Workshops include Mixed Media in a Series with Lind Hollingsworth, Fused Glass Design Sampler with Stephanie VanGeel, Clay Boat Building with Dave Peterson, Into to Lapidary Stone Cutting with Ed Wade, Clay Surface Design Sampler with Mary Cale Wilson, Dodecahedron Paper Cutting with Mary Bass and Children’s Portrait Workshops with Brian Woods.
Programs are supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. GCA also receives support from its partner agency the National Endowment for the Arts.

Dodecahedron Paper Cutting Workshop
Instructor: Mary Bass
Ages 9+, Wed., January 15, 4-5:30pm
Enjoy cutting out snowflakes, then it is time to expand your scissor skills by creating a dodecahedron, a 12-sided geometric ball. Students will create individual sides and then glue them together to form a sphere.
$10 city resident/$15 non-city resident
Children’s Portrait Workshop
Instructor: Brian Woods
Ages 9+, Thurs., January 16, 4-5:30pm
In this specialized portrait workshop, children will take their interests and incorporate them into a biographic portrait. Canvas panels, colored paper, markers, paint and other mixed media items will be available for the creation of the final image.
