SouthCoast Health’s Dr. Leland R. Dampier, III

Georgia is one of the top five states with the highest sugar consumption, with about one in three Georgian adults drinking soda a day.

“About half of the United States adult population drinks a soda a day,” SouthCoast Health Family Physician Leland Dampier, MD said.

“…But I’m sure if that more adults knew what they were doing to their bodies, they would work hard to never drink soda again.”

Learn about why you should not drink soda & the benefits of water here.

SouthCoast Health Family Physician Dr. William Knight

If you’ve got things to do and places to be, having a cold can be one of the worst things for your productivity levels.

“Not only is a cold common, but it can also be really annoying to experience,” SouthCoast Health Family Physician Dr. William Knight said. “While you may not feel your best with a cold, you could be, in theory, feeling fine enough to be stressed out about falling behind on your goals. But having a stuffy nose or watery eyes may decrease your productivity. We often see patients desperate for some sort of relief so they can get back on their feet as quickly as possible.”

Kaytee Robertson Richmond Hill drowning toddler

Maximus “Max” Robertson of Richmond Hill died this Easter weekend 2020 in an accidental drowning in a relative’s covered pool.

He was two weeks away from turning 2 years old.

This week’s SouthernMamas.com column in Savannah Morning News on Sat. May 16 is about what happened and what his mother, Kaytee Robertson, wants people with home pools to do to prevent drownings. Read it here.

This grieving family has received a lot of community support including from Kaytee’s fellow members of First Baptist Church Richmond Hill MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), a group Robertson joined three years ago. (Savannah Pediatricians) Coastal Pediatrics in Savannah & Pooler

Friday, May 15th, 2020

Burglar or Bandit? Or maybe neither….

We love this.

Coastal Pediatrics in Savannah staff had noticed more than usual timid and reluctant faces on their patients recently during visits.

They know it can be intimidating for your little one to have to interact with someone wearing a mask. So they posted photos of their physicians and nurse practitioners with and without their masks and suggested that parents take a moment to share the posted photos with them and let them see some of their favorite masked pediatricians or NPs.

See all the Coastal Pediatrics pediatrician and NP masked & unmasked photos here.

Tuesday, May 12th, 2020

Camp Moon River Savannah summer camps

Below is a guest post by Camp Moon River (CMR) at Savannah Country Day School

Dear SouthernMamas.com Family,

SCDS Summer Programs will be taking the next few days to review the most up to date GA guidelines as per Governor Kemp’s most recent Executive Order.  We plan (and hope) to have updates about June camps and activities by May 15.

Registrations remain open and continue to fill if you would like to secure a spot.   Rest assured, we will provide you with a complete refund if we are forced to cancel due to covid-related issues.

If we are in a position to modify an SCDS Summer Program, our registered families will have the first opportunity to accept the modified camp spots.

We know summer camp is important to you. It is to us as well. Our priority is the wellbeing of our staff, campers, and their respective families.

Visit www.savcds.org/campus-life and click summer programs for more information.
