Moms in Training code Savannah

There’s no influence like a mom’s. It’s a power that can do good for blood cancer patients everywhere; which is why Moms in Training is looking for moms and moms-to-be to join them.

The program is geared towards moms with kids of all ages looking to get in shape and help save lives while doing it.

It’s called Moms In Training, inspired by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) premier fundraising campaign, Team In Training.

Moms In Training meets the needs of today’s busy moms. It’s a flexible 8-10-week workout program where moms come together to get in shape while raising funds for cancer treatments.

Once training is completed, you will have the opportunity to complete 3.1 mile walk or run at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah 5K with family, friends and neighbors cheering you on! If you would like complete an event that is a longer distance, there’s Team In Training, which will prepare you for marathons (26.2 miles), half marathons (13.1), triathlons and hike events. To learn more, watch the Moms In Training video https://bitly.com/momsvideo.

Here’s what Moms In Training will do for you:

Get in shape and reach personal goals

Flexible workout schedules

Meet other moms in your communities

Create social networking groups

Help each other with training and fundraising

Attend events throughout the season for you and your family

Here’s what you will do for cancer patients:

Help save lives

Raise funds for cancer research

Contribute to the LLS goal of a world without blood cancers.

Proof that fundraising programs like Moms In Training work are reflected in the fact that in 1960 only 3% of all children with a blood cancer survived. Today, thanks to funds raised by moms like you, it’s a 90% survival rate. But we need to continue working to find cures and ensure access to treatments not someday, but today.

Join us and other moms in your community. Get In Shape. Meet Moms. Fight Cancer.

My first Team in Training event was Nike Womens Marathon in San Francisco in 2013. I actually signed up the year before but ended up pregnant instead! My son, Jonathan is in college and my daughter, Jordan is almost three! My brother has Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and training and fundraising gives me a feeling of empowerment! I feel like I am able to do something for him. The motivation that comes from the Team and the friendships that form are just icing on the cake! I look forward to helping each of you reach your goals this Fall.

“This is my 4th season with Team in Training.  I have always enjoyed the endurance aspect, the difficulty, the overcoming adversity.  With a few half-marathons and two full-marathons under my belt, thousands of dollars raised and countless memories, I am joining the TEAM yet again, but for the first time as a MOM!My daughter Caitlyn encourages and inspires me every day.  I want to ensure that I continue to support noble causes like this one to give a little bit of that inspiration back to her.”

Moms in Training Savannah What is Moms In Training?
Moms In Training is a flexible, 12-week training program for Savannah area moms to get in shape, meet other moms and help fight blood cancers. Trainings take place for one hour on the weekends with other social event opportunities during the week.

Even though it’s called Moms in Training, dads are welcome to join, too. You don’t necessarily need to be a mom to take part. If someone is interested in training for the half marathon relay and has lots of patience with kiddos, they are welcome to join the program too.

Why Join?
Leukemia is the most common cancer in children and adolescents less than 20 years old. In 1964, the chance of surviving Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood leukemia, was 3%. Thanks to treatments advanced by LLS, children 15 years old and younger who are fighting ALL today have a 92% chance for survival.

LLS and Moms In Training participants are saving lives, and all moms are invited to join the fight for a cure.

Can I bring my child to trainings?
Yes! As long as your baby is able to remain in the stroller, you are welcome to bring him or her to trainings. The workouts allow you to exercise with a stroller, but it is not necessary. Some moms prefer to use the hour as “me” time.

What do trainings consist of?
Trainings will consist of running, walking, cross training and stretching.

I’m not an athlete! Can I really do this?
Yes! Moms of all levels join the program. You will receive incredible coach support as well as a training calendar that you can follow on your own. The program is extremely flexible, and you are supported 100% of the way.

How much do I fundraise to participate?
Moms commit to raising $500 to help fight blood cancers. There is a $50 registration fee to join which is credited toward your fundraising goal. Upon registering, you will receive your own fundraising website as well as fundraising support from LLS staff. The average mom raises $1,500!

I know someone personally affected by cancer. Can I train in honor or memory of them?
Absolutely. Moms in Training encourages you to honor someone you know who has been affected by ANY type of cancer.

How do I sign up?

Moms Make Things Happen: Join Team in Training in Savannah for 50% off registration fee

Team in Training Savannah Publix race Thinking about signing up for Team In Training in Savannah? Here is what mom, Danielle, has to say about her experience.

“I first signed up with Team In Training for motivation and support to train for my first marathon. My brother is a lymphoma survivor and I wanted to do something to honor him. As luck would have it, just a couple months into training, I discovered I was pregnant! So, I took a little over a year off and signed up again when Jordy was just five months old. I loved being part of a team – everyone was so supportive regardless of fitness ability. Our coach offered much needed motivation and advice as I spent five months training for a full marathon. I was so proud to wear my purple Team in Training shirt on race day!

Fast forward another year and I had the opportunity to co-coach the Moms In Training program. Leading this group of moms and first time runners helped hold me accountable to waking up early every Saturday morning and hitting the pavement. A bonus was that my baby girl, Jordy, could train with me. It was exciting when she rode in the stroller for 5 miles and just smiled and repeated “go team!”

Team In Training is accepting applications now for the perfect Moms or Girlfriends event – the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon on March 28 2015.  (FREE race registration for Team in Training Savannah)  Train to walk or run a half marathon or 5K while helping to raise funds to find a cure for blood cancers.
