Save the date for Savannah Children’s Museum annual Bug Fest 2017.

This annual family-friendly celebration features bug crafts, activities and workshops. Savannah Children’s Museum community partners will be there to help us understand the importance of bugs in nature and in our everyday lives.

These little creatures make a big impact, visit Savannah Children’s Museum’s Bug Fest on Saturday, May 27 10AM-4PM to learn more.

This year, discover the importance of bees and other natural pollinators with the Coastal Empire Beekeeper’s Association, learn about insectivores with Oatland Island Wildlife Center, enter our Insectarium with Armstrong State University’s Entomology class, meet some friendly reptiles from Georgia Reptile Society, try Bug Yoga for kids led by Yogi Palz and become a member of the Eat-A-Bug club with “Tails of the Lowcountry.”

Savannah Children’s Museum educators will also be delivering programs and activities related to bugs and many other crawly creatures throughout the event.

The Naked Dog food truck will be on Sugar Beet Bluff, just outside of Savannah Children’s Museum’s entrance with delicious hot dogs, snacks and Italian Ice for purchase.

Admission to Bug Fest is included in the cost of regular admission to Savannah Children’s Museum, $7.50 for all guests 18 months and older. This event is FREE for Coastal Heritage Society members.

Sensory Soft Sundays @ Savannah Children’s Museum provide opportunities for families who have children with special needs or autism to make local connections before the museum opens, from 9-11AM on certain Sundays.

Your kids can become a Junior Ranger 

Take advantage of the fact that we live within a day’s drive of multiple national parks & monuments & have your kids become a junior ranger at one or many of these sites.

When you take kids to tour national parks, you never know how much they are getting out of the visit. Especially for those of us moms who aren’t exactly history experts.

Which is why you need to pick up the Junior Ranger booklets at the visitor centers of national parks you visit. The Junior Ranger program kids engage more during the visits.

Junior Ranger booklets have activities about the national parks for ages 5-12. Junior ranger books are free to any visitor and usually are available at the visitors’ centers. Often, similar programs with more advanced activities are also available for older kids. Just ask at the site’s visitor center.

While doing the activities, children enjoy earning a badge and a certificate.

Wormsloe Historic Site in Savannah will commemorate Georgia’s role in the 1739-1748 war between Britain and Spain over Memorial Day Weekend 2017.

A brief presentation at the Visitor Center at 10AM will be followed by a walking tour of the site. The program will also include military drills and black powder weapons demonstrations.

The 2017 Savannah Scottish Games – Sat. May 6 2017 at Bethesda Academy – are the fourth oldest Scottish Games in the southeastern United States.

The Savannah Scottish Games are a celebration of Scottish heritage and music, the Games truly have something for everyone to enjoy including entertainment by City Hotel and the Savannah Ceili Band, a Highland dancing competition, traditional heavy athletics, Celtic ale from Asheville, NC’s Highland Brewery, and a wide variety of Scottish art available for purchase.

The games will also feature the very popular traditional heavy athletic events including the caber toss and hammer throw, children’s activities, and border collie skill demonstrations.

Gates will open at 9AM and closing ceremonies will take place at 4:30PM May 7.

Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia’s unique summer programming offers her a safe space to face her fears, try new things, explore the great outdoors, build up her problem-solving skills and make a lifetime of memories!

Whether she’s a Daisy, an Ambassador or even a non-Girl Scout, she’ll have a blast riding horses, learning survival skills, making jewelry, building robots, participating in traditional camp activities like swimming and archery and discovering her inner G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™.

This year, Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is hosting camp at three of their beautiful properties: Camp Martha Johnston (CMJ) in Lizella; Camp Tanglewood in Augusta; and Camp Low in Savannah.

Along with Resident Camps, Day Camps and Counselor-In-Training Camps, Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is introducing NEW Mini-Camps! Open to Brownies and Juniors, these two-night resident camps will feature Elena of Avalor. Horse Camps will also be available in the Columbus and Savannah areas.

Kids Summer Pottery Camp 2017 @ Savannah’s Clay Spot

Pottery camp at Savannah’s Clay Spot is a unique opportunity for children to work as actual artist in a professional ceramic studio. Each week young students will learn a variety of ceramic techniques.

Children will create on the potter’s wheel and use several hand building methods as they unleash their imaginations as they create wonderful works of art. Each camp will have an inspirational theme and will be different each week, giving the opportunity for children to be involved in multiple camps.
