Savannah Children’s Museum invites the public to attend Bug Fest, the annual family-friendly celebration buzzing with bug-themed crafts, activities and workshops. The event will be Sat. April 23 2022, 10AM-1PM @ Savannah Children’s Museum, 655 Louisville Rd. Savannah.
Learn about the importance of bees and other natural pollinators with the Coastal Empire Beekeepers Association, enter the Insectarium with Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus Entomology class, learn about insectivores with Oatland Island Wildlife Center and enjoy bug-themed yoga with Savannah Yoga Center.
Savannah Children’s Museum educators will also deliver exciting programs and activities, such as the eat-a-bug club, insect activities and many other creepy-crawly programs throughout the day.
Food trucks will be on Sugar Beet Bluff picnic area, just outside of Savannah Children’s Museum’s entrance with food available for purchase.
Admission to Bug Fest is included in the cost of regular admission to Savannah Children’s Museum, $10 for all guests 18 months and older. This event is FREE for Coastal Heritage Society members. Find museum membership info here.
The Savannah College of Art and Design announces SCADstyle 2022, the 16th edition of the university’s annual power-stacked design summit.
Taking place April 4–6 2022 with in-person and streaming events in Savannah and Atlanta, SCADstyle offers intimate access to today’s go-to design stars who offer insight on the top trends heating up in 2022.
From beauty, fashion, and footwear to architecture, advertising, and beyond, SCADstyle covers the hottest design domains, engaging the SCAD community in thrilling talks and panels on contemporary practices and future innovations, as well as career-making networking opportunities with design leaders across creative industries.
This year’s SCADstyle event also coincides with the announcement of the new SCAD sneaker design minor launching in Spring 2022.
To commemorate the announcement, SCADstyle includes two sneaker-focused programs including an alumni panel in Savannah on April 5 featuring industry leaders Zaneta Horne, Cesar Idrobo, Carson Whittaker, and Quintin Williams.

Plus Brazilian Drumming, Jazz, and Choreography are back for teens, and dance classes for ages 2-5 have been added!

SCAD Rising Star programs for high school juniors
Over five weeks, SCAD Rising Star students enroll in two courses and earn college credit. Courses are taught by SCAD faculty in inspiring SCAD spaces, and students live in residence halls. Rising Star students have access to industry-standard technology and resources, including 4K cameras, 3D printers, and the full Adobe Creative Suite. Open to current high school juniors.

The annual Savannah Local Author Day & Flannery Birthday Party is back!
With a local author day sponsored by The Book Lady Bookstore, the Flannery O’Connor outdoor fair and the quirkiest parade in Savannah will be Sun. March 27, 1-4PM in Lafayette Square in downtown Savannah.
This free event that’s open to the public will feature creative activities, vendors, and lots of Flannery costumes. The annual celebration of acclaimed author and Savannah native Flannery O’Connor’s birthday will offer free family fun, live music, a wacky parade, birthday cake, and more.
Local and regional authors will be on hand and you are invited to stroll around the book tables and meet poets, children’s book authors, and fiction and nonfiction writers.
You’ll also be welcomed to visit the Flannery O’Connor Home (free) to view Flannery’s Depression-era childhood home.
Live music throughout the event provided by singer-songwriters and musicians from Savannah local bands.
Attendees are invited to walk in the parade, bring handmade signs and sing along.
Costumes inspired by Flannery O’Connor characters, settings or the author’s life are optional & encouraged.
The Junior League of Savannah is combining its popular Duck Pluck and Touch-a-Truck events for a day full of fun and prizes on Sat., April 9 2022, 10AM–2PM. The combined event will be held outside at Oglethorpe Mall, at the parking lot along Abercorn Street.
Touch-a-Truck
A variety of trucks will be available at the event for kids to climb, touch and explore. A selection of the types of trucks that will be on-site at the event include an ambulance, a fire truck, an 18-wheeler, police vehicles, a military vehicle, a forklift, a scissor lift and more—including food trucks to be enjoyed by both kids and adults alike.
A quiet hour will be held from 10–11AM during the event for individuals with sensitivities to loud noises.
Tickets for Touch-a-Truck are $5 each, or $20 for a pack of five tickets. Kids younger than three are free. Tickets can be purchased online at jrleaguesav.org/touch-a-truck. Tickets will also be available for purchase on-site at the event.

Fairy & Gnome Festival 2022 @ Oatland Island Wildlife Center, Savannah
The beloved annual Fairy & Gnome Festival @ Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah will be Sat. April 30 2022, 10AM-2PM.
Enjoy this family-friendly day of enchantment that’s all about the “wee folk” getting up close with the natural world and encouraging imaginative outdoor play.
Socially-distanced, outdoor activities will include a scavenger hunt, fashion show, gem mining, fairy and gnome home building and food trucks.
