4. The wildflower garden & hiking trails in the free Sea Pines Forest Preserve
The 605-acre Sea Pines Forest Preserve includes easy trails to various points of interest including the 4,000-year-old Indian Shell Ring, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and a wildflower garden that’s amazing when in bloom. The walks range from 25 minutes to one hour. Bicycles are not permitted on the nature trails, so please park your bicycles at the locations provided. Open from sunrise to sunset. Take the free Sea Pines Trolley to all your favorite Sea Pines locations during summer months & some holiday periods. This is a great way to entertain kids who are still thrilled by “bus rides etc”. 10. FREE historical Stoney-Baynard Ruins, Sea Pines
The ruins of the old Baynard estate, the main house as well as attendant slave quarters, are permanently preserved within six-acre Baynard Ruins Park. Before the star-gazing, enjoy a 1950s sci-fi flick in the Visitors Center at 7:30PM
After the late May sun sets at 8:20 pm and the sky darkens, the thin crescent moon becomes more visible and doesn’t set till just after midnight. Come to the Event Field for viewing of the waxing moon, constellations and Milky Way Galaxy through various-size telescopes that Association members (or you) bring.
Feel free to use the renovated Canebrake Road entrance and new parking lot at the new Visitor & Education Center. Dress for the evening weather, bring a favorite cold or hot beverage, lawn chair and snack basket (alcohol is prohibited). Be aware that semi-dormant fire ants may be under your blanket or chair on your particular chosen spot on the lawn.

Junior Park Rangers
When you take kids to tour national parks, you never know how much they are getting out of the visit. Especially for those of us moms who aren’t exactly history experts.
Which is why you need to pick up the Junior Ranger booklets at the visitor centers of national parks you visit. The Junior Ranger program kids engage more during the visits.
Junior Ranger booklets have activities about the national parks for ages 5-12. Junior ranger books are free to any visitor and usually are available at the visitors’ centers. Often, similar programs with more advanced activities are also available for older kids. Just ask at the site’s visitor center.
While doing the activities, children enjoy earning a badge and a certificate.

Winter Reading Program

Children and teens are invited to participate in this year’s Winter Reading Program at Live Oak Public Libraries.
To get started reading for prizes this winter break, stop by any Live Oak Public Libraries branch to sign up and pick up your Winter Reading Record.
Each time you read a total of three hours, return your reading record to the library for prize (while supplies last) plus an entry form to win one of the Grand Prizes, a 7” tablet. All entry forms for the Grand Prize must be submitted by Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, to qualify. Grand Prize drawings will be held the first week of January.

In honor of Veterans Day, Fifth Third Bank (Georgia) is partnering with Telfair Museums in Savannah to offer one year of free admission for military personnel and their families.
The promotion, which begins this Veterans Day Nov. 11, 2014, is available to all retired and active-duty service members as well as those in the Reserves. In addition, Fifth Third Bank is also offering the Job Seeker’s Toolkit – a free, comprehensive online job search training program from national reemployment solutions company NextJob – to all U.S. military and veterans until Dec. 31, 2014.
Upcoming attractions at Telfair Museums include:
· A celebration of art as healing therapy, featuring artwork by local military veterans.
· A screening of an award-winning documentary film, Savannah in the Civil War.
· Several paintings by Winston Churchill in addition to photographs, letters and other personal belongings on loan from his descendants. As part of the exhibit, Telfair will team up with the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force and other partners.
· Exhibits on Andy Warhol and art from the 1990s.
· A major event showcasing the legendary French painter Claude Monet, displayed alongside America’s own Impressionist painters.

Bring the family, it’s Kids Free November in Jax!
Free admission for children ages 3-12 all month long at Jacksonville’s top family-friendly attractions.

Here’s a FREE fun Friday activity to do with the kids: Trinity United Methodist Church’s “Fall Fridays Noon-Time Concert Series” in Savannah.
The five 30-minute concerts – which are open to the public – will be on Fridays from October 17 to November 14.
Performances start at 12:15 p.m. in the sanctuary of Trinity, 225 W. President Street.
Complimentary lemonade and PERC Coffee will be served afterward.
The concerts feature a variety of professional, working musicians, many of whom are members of the Savannah Philharmonic Orchestra and are professional recording artists, and university professors. Performances will be recorded and possibly used for programming on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
One performance will spotlight the theremin, an electronic instrument associated with the music of 1940s and 1950s sci-fi films.
The series is sponsored by Smart & Harris Law Firm and Fairhaven Funeral Home/Hubert C. Baker Chapel.
