Saturday Sailing Lessons @ Savannah Sailing Center, Lake Mayer

Sailing lessons for both adults and children ages 8 and older are available on scheduled Saturdays during late summer, early fall 2015. The course includes 4 hours of instruction, follows the US Sailing curriculum, and is documented with the US Sailing certification record book. Students are required to call or email the office to register for lessons.

Join this hands-on workshop open to all skill levels interested in fused glass. Students will learn basic glass cutting and fusing techniques creating a unique fused glass wind chime.

“I can’t” (Yes you can) – A Multimedia Workshop NEW

A one day workshop that explores how the feelings of ‘I can’t’ keep you from creating a work of art.
Do you give up before you even get going? That what is in your head doesn’t match what’s on the paper? Ever looked at what you are working on in front of you and said, I can’t? Well no more can’t! This course is designed to strengthen and expand your art-making skills and ideas through a creative exploration of traditional and unconventional materials.

Fused Glass Checkerboard & Checkers

In this workshop, students will learn how to uniformly cut glass to make a one-of-a-kind checkerboard. Students will also learn how to make simple checkers pieces for a fun and creative way to enhance your game night!

Everything Not Sewn: Felting Workshop NEW

In this one day workshop students will learn the traditional art of felting as a non-woven or sewn fiber arts application. Students will learn basic techniques in both binding and wet felting.

This ancient Japanese ceramic firing technique in which 1800° glowing red hot works are removed from the kiln and placed into a reduction chamber filled with combustibles is sure to inflame and inspire. Personal bisque fired works can be glazed and fired. Pieces will be available for those who want to participate.

Festive Mask Making
Instructor: Mary Bass
Ages 8+, Saturday, Oct. 24, 10am-12pm
Come transform yourself into any creature you’d like! In this two hour workshop, students will learn how to make a festive mask out of felt! Basic sewing and embroidery techniques will be covered.

Girls on the Run begins the week of August 24th in Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties.

Girls on the Run is starting their tenth year in Coastal Georgia and reaches almost 1,000 girls annually in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty. Girls on the Run mission: to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Girls on the Run is a transformational learning program for girls in grades 3-8. The program teaches life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games, culminating with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K run which illustrates confidence through accomplishment and healthy life choices.

Shoe drive

Girls on the Run in Coatal Georgia is holding a shoe drive – a collection of gently used shoes of all types, women’s, men’s and children’s – sneakers, boots, sandals, heels, etc. The goal is to raise funds for this after-school program for girls in grades 3-8 while benefiting microenterprise ventures in developing nations and keeping old shoes out of local landfills.

Donation bins area available now through October at the YMCAs in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty Counties as well as most Howard Family Dental offices, Fleet Feet, Bahama Joes, GA Game Changers and Seacrest Partners.

Make and Take Tuesdays Kids’ Cooking Classes
Tuesdays at 4-5pm
Frank Murray Community Center, Whitemarsh Is.

It’s not your average After-School Class.
Bring your kids to make a home-cooked meal to take home and enjoy with the family. It’s a fun, hands-on activity where the kids learn basic cooking skills, family nutrition tips and it all ends with a delicious take-home dinner prepared in-class — all without the planning, shopping, prep or mess at home.

Each meal will feed up to 5-6 people and is prepared in disposable take-home bake and serve containers. You also receive a copy of the recipe with (re)heating instructions.

This class is open to children of all ages. Parents are welcomed to accompany their child in the class, or you can drop them off.

Cost is $45 per family and includes hands-on cooking lesson, family nutrition tips and a delicious take-home meal prepared in-class in take-home bake and serve containers, complete with a copy of the recipe with (re)heating instructions.

Join Kindermusik in Savannah with 88 Keys Piano for their July monthly musical play date.

This month’s theme is ‘Bugs, Bugs, BUGS in my backyard!’

Play dates will be held on Thursday July 23 at 10am and again on Saturday July 25 at 10am. Children newborns to 7 years old are welcome. All participants receive an instrument/prop, 10 Kindermusik songs, and an extra bonus gift at the end of class. Admission is $15 and siblings pay only $5!  All play dates to be held at Kindermusik’s studio location in Bloomingdale. It is located 8 minutes from the new Tanger Outlets.

The Storm Soccer Academy programs Sweet Feet Academy and Sweet Feet Krush in Savannah work with participants between the ages of four and seven years old in developing soccer skills in a fun and exciting environment.

Children love participating in these programs because coaches teach on the children’s level and allow them the freedom to explore the activity of soccer at their own speed. This exploration leads to a developing passion for both exercise and soccer – great habits that The Storm Soccer Academy hopes to nurture for a lifetime.

Sweet Feet Academy is the boys program and Sweet Feet Krush is the girls program.

Practice and game play for the Fall 2015 season begin the first week of September with practices on Tuesdays at Jennifer Ross Soccer Complex and games on Fridays at STEM Academy. The program culminates the first week of November.

Registration for the Fall 2015 program is $185.
