Savannah Children’s Museum invites the public to attend Bug Fest, the annual family-friendly celebration abuzz with bug crafts, activities and workshops.

The event will be Sat. May 28 2016, 10AM-4PM at Savannah Children’s Museum, 655 Louisville Rd. Savannah, 31401.

This year, build with Snapology (11AM- 1PM), learn about cicadas with Oatland Island Wildlife Center, enter an Insectarium with Armstrong State University’s Entomology class, meet some friendly reptiles from Georgia Reptile Society, while learning about their healthy diet of bugs, and become a member of the Eat-A-Bug club with our nutrition expert, Jesse Rosenblum.

Savannah Children’s Museum Educators also will lead activities such as a “bee dance” to demonstrate how bees communicate through movement, building a “pollinator hotel” out of all natural materials and reading from some memorable bug-themed children’s books including “Roberto: The Insect Architect” by Nina Laden and “The Very Busy Spider” by Eric Carle.

The theme for the show and collections are designs inspired by nature and flowers.

Featured collections will be made from botanicals and flowers found at the gardens designed by Stephanie Tedder and Hayley Larson, the event producer and co-producer of “Runway in Bloom”.

Sea Turtle Exhibit

The Sandbox Children’s Museum on Hilton Head Is. has recently acquired (in a partnership with Edventure Children’s Museum and a grant from The Institute of Museum and Library Services) a new exhibit that tells the story of our local loggerhead sea turtles and their importance Hilton Head Is. and their natural habitat.

The Sandbox has part of it on display in their “Turtle” room at the museum. Come by and take a look.Remember, LIGHTS OUT at 10pm, cover up holes on the beach and leave a clear path for the turtles to nest during sea turtle nesting season May 1-October 1.

Bring your little soccer players to watch Specialty Sports 2016 Coastal Empire All-Star Soccer Games this Sat. May 14 @ Calvary Day School, 4625 Waters Ave. in Savannah.

Founded seven years ago by tournament director and Windsor Forest High School boys head soccer coach, Cam Turner, this annual all-star soccer tournament serves an effort to enhance college recruiting efforts and give area soccer players who exhibit an elevated level of athletic skill an opportunity to display their talent in front of head coaches and staff invited to the games each year from top colleges across the region.
