December Nights & Holiday Lights encompasses at least six acres from the new Visitor’s Center to our Rose Garden, Orchid House, Crapemyrtle Allee, White Garden and beyond! Note: Rain will cause illuminated displays to fail, so there may be cancellations or early closings based on the weather forecast. It’s best to come out during a stretch of fair weather rather than wait until the last few nights (the last two years rain prompted closures on Christmas Eve).

The majority of the Holiday Lights experience is stroller and wheelchair friendly (there are two lawn areas illuminated). For the enjoyment and safety of all around the illuminated displays, please no flash photography.

Spirited music also fills the air, sometimes with live performances by local vocal or instrumental groups in the Great Hall of the Visitors Center. Visit with Santa Claus and take photos from 7 to 8 p on Saturday evenings (November 28, December 5, 12 and 19) in the gazebo of the Cottage Garden. TODDLER TUESDAY THEMES

December 1 It’s a Small World After All—Ever looked through a microscope? We will explore the microscopic plants and animals that live in the sea that make up the base of the food chain. We will use hand lenses, microscopes and projectors to see the unseeable!

December 8 Come Rain, Come Shine— What makes the weather? Come rain, come shine: we’ll learn about clouds, wind, and the sun and how weather can be your friend, or not. Whatever the weather, we’ll be here at Toddler Tuesday learning all about it.

December 15 Run, Run as Fast as You Can— What happens when the gingerbread boy escapes around Oatland Island? We will learn all about omnivores, carnivores and herbivores and which animals would love a cookie treat and which would not. All cookie monsters are invited to come to this TT. Any special cookie request can be made upon registration.

December 22 Polar Express!— It is that time of year again to hop on the polar express. We’ll pretend to catch the midnight train to the arctic and end up polar, where we will learn all about life in this extreme environment.

December 29 Christmas Bird Count-– We will investigate which of our fine feathered friends stick around in the winter. While Audobon is conducting bird surveys all around the U.S., we will pull out the binoculars and do our own little Christmas Bird Survey.

Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella is a musical in two acts with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, II and a new book by Douglas Carter Beane based partly on Hammerstein’s 1957 book.

The story is based upon the fairy tale, Cinderella, particularly the French version Cendrillon, ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre, by Charles Perrault. The story concerns a young woman forced into a life of servitude by her cruel stepmother, who dreams of a better life. With the help of her Fairy Godmother, Cinderella is transformed into an elegant young lady and is able to attend the ball to meet her Prince, but, in this version, she must open the Prince’s eyes to the injustice in his kingdom.
