Due to COVID-19 they had to create a virtual Buddy walk this year. You can continue this tradition of walking to help raise awareness and making change. Individual registration is $10.

Since 2006, LDSS has grown from a group of a few families to an organization serving Savannah and the surrounding counties through events such as The Buddy Walk, The Night of Champions and Camp Buddy.

LDSS is a non-profit support group to benefit people with Down Syndrome and their families through local leadership in support, outreach, education and advocacy. Meetings are regularly, typically with a guest speaker and social time for families to meet and interact with one another. Members are encouraged to bring their children. How to help a Richmond Hill family whose toddler drowned in pool

Kaytee Robertson Richmond Hill drowning toddler

Maximus “Max” Robertson of Richmond Hill died this Easter weekend 2020 in an accidental drowning in a relative’s covered pool.

He was two weeks away from turning 2 years old.

This week’s SouthernMamas.com column in Savannah Morning News on Sat. May 16 is about what happened and what his mother, Kaytee Robertson, wants people with home pools to do to prevent drownings. Read it here.

This grieving family has received a lot of community support including from Kaytee’s fellow members of First Baptist Church Richmond Hill MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), a group Robertson joined three years ago. FBCRH MOPS set up a public online fundraiser for the Robertsons. Donations can be made online here.

Help for Savannah moms of newborns & pregnant moms during COVID-19 pandemic 

Maternal Mental Health Collective of Savannah now offers three ONLINE support groups, all by donation, in addition to offering  therapy services by video or phone.

1. Nurture Community Support: non-judgmental, supportive connection for moms during baby’s first year, with Bridget Cross, LCSW, PMH-C.  This group takes place online Saturdays at noon starting April 4 2020. Learn more here.

2.  Moms Support Group: for all moms struggling to adjust to life in isolation, anxiety during this pandemic, with Brandy Zinn, LPC.  This group takes place Tuesday nights at 7PM starting March 31 2020. Learn more here.

There’s a donation-based postpartum support group in Savannah for moms seeking community and connection during baby’s first year.

This supportive, non-judgmental group is for moms seeking connection and community during baby’s first year. Come on out to meet other mamas who are in it with you. You’ll explore topics such as health and wellness, relationships, mood changes, bonding with your baby, body image, sexuality, and more.

The group meets at the Midwife Group & Birth Center but you do not have to be a patient there to attend. Babies 12 months and under are welcome to join you.

Representatives from preschools, private schools and public schools Chatham and Effingham counties will tell you everything you need to know. There will also be representatives from home school co-ops, after-school options and other fun opportunities for children and families.

It’s your one-stop shop to check out all your options, and it’s FREE! It’s also stroller and child friendly.

Everyone is invited. You do not need to be a MOPS member to attend.

Pooler kids’ events: Touch A Truck 2019

The second annual Pooler MOPS Touch-a-Truck will be Sat. Feb. 16 2019.

Check out the equipment and vehicles that build and protect the community and that keep our area safe and clean. Plus, there will be several food trucks.

This event is open to the public and all are welcome.

New this year: The first hour of the event will be a “quiet hour,” so families with sensory issues can enjoy the fun, too.

Cost: $5 for everyone older than 1, with a maximum of $20 per family living in the same home. Cash or cards will be accepted at the event.
