Junior Park Rangers

When you take kids to tour national parks, you never know how much they are getting out of the visit. Especially for those of us moms who aren’t exactly history experts.

Which is why you need to pick up the Junior Ranger booklets at the visitor centers of national parks you visit. The Junior Ranger program kids engage more during the visits.

Junior Ranger booklets have activities about the national parks for ages 5-12. Junior ranger books are free to any visitor and usually are available at the visitors’ centers. Often, similar programs with more advanced activities are also available for older kids. Just ask at the site’s visitor center.

While doing the activities, children enjoy earning a badge and a certificate.

Ganesha’s Place offers a variety of therapeutic classes including yoga for special needs kids, children with autism & restorative yoga for caretakers.

What we love about Ganesha’s Place is that it’s a spot to explore, heal and have fun. Ganesha’s can be a place for the whole family: you’re not required to be athletic or wear special outfits. Yoga therapy at Ganesha’s regulates and improves the balance between health and wellness without the intimidating images of body contortions and “pretzels”.

You’re invited to the 5th Annual Marsh Tacky Horse Races, Sat April 27, on the beaches of Daufuskie Island, located across from Hilton Head Is.

Horses and riders will compete for infinite bragging rights from 2-4pm in front of the Melrose Beach Club.

Additional events include a Meet-n-Greet the Horses and Breakfast Buffet at the Sportsman’s Lodge inside Melrose Equestrian Center from 8:00 – 11:00am, then make sure to cheer on your favorite horse during the procession to the race grounds beginning at 1pm from Melrose Equestrian Center.

There will also be the Tacky Hat Contest during race intermission at 2:45-3:15.

Throughout the day, there will be food and drink specials, a selection of Daufuskie Island artisans’ work and merchandise for sale, entertainment and more. Approved transportation shuttles will run from Freeport and Melrose Marinas to the event grounds throughout the day. Once inside Melrose Resort gates, island traffic and parking will be designated for golf carts and approved, licensed and insured motorized vehicles only. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Beach chairs and coolers with items in non-glass containers are welcome.
