The Jewel Conservatory Theatre – an educational theatre in Rincon dedicated to providing classic theatre entertainment and quality theatre classes for all ages – has a whole assortment of after-school theatre classes for all ages!

City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs is now registering students for Session I Classes and Workshops.

Day and evening sessions are offered for children, teens, and adults in all skill levels. Sessions began January 20 and run through February 28 and are held at the Department of Cultural Affairs Arts Studios located at 9 W. Henry St.

Three week and six week classes are available as well as weekend workshops. Visual arts sessions include ceramics, metals, glass, jewelry, painting and drawing. New this session, are classes in Beginning Jewelry Design and Beading, Monochromatic Portrait Drawing, Watercolor and Basic Drawing, and Thrown and Altered Handles and Feet for your ceramic works.

Class fees include instruction, use of studio space, use of equipment and all materials and tools required. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Credit cards are accepted. Class schedule and registration forms are available online at www.savannahga.gov/arts  or by calling (912) 651-6783.

The city also offers one and two day workshops began January 7 and run through January 14. All workshops will be held at the Department of Cultural Affairs Arts Studio located at 9 W. Henry St. This variety of workshops, taught by skilled professionals, is offered for children, teens, and adults in all skill levels. Glor na Daire Academy of Irish Dance presents its annual fundraiser, “A Night in Ireland” with two performances on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the American Legion Post 154 on Tybee Island, Ga.

The matinee features dancing only and begins at 2 p.m. Matinee tickets are $5 each. The evening performance includes dinner, Irish dancing, live music, cash bar and silent auction. Seating starts at 6 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m. Evening tickets are $15 for adults and $6 for children. Glor na Daire is an Irish Dance Academy formed by Abbey Wood, TCRG, and Brent Wood, TCRG. 	Portfolio Builder: Youth Drawing 1 Ages 10 – 14 6 Weeks – Thursdays, Sept 26 – Oct 31, 4:30–6:00pm Member: $100, Non-member: $125 Instructor: Marisa Lilje
	This class is designed to help upper-elementary & middle school students improve their drawing skills and begin the process of developing a portfolio.  In Drawing 1, students will focus on observational drawing techniques including, linear perspective, shading, and the figure. Class exercises will include working from still life and practicing portraiture and sketching from clothed models. Youth Drawing is a great class for students to develop their art portfolios. All materials provided.
	Crash Course in Portraiture Ages: Teen – Adult Saturday, Oct 12, 10am-1pm Members $75, Non-members $95
	A great class for anyone that likes to draw but is scared to draw people or just interested in trying.  This one day class will explore the basics of drawing Portraits in charcoal.  Working from life students will gain an introduction observational measuring and proportion, as well methods for organizing approaches to complex subjects.  Emphasis will be placed on creating volume, light, and shape with value, as well as additive and subtractive use of charcoal. All materials provided.
	Sketch-Booking for the Family Ages: 6 – Adult (1 adult companion per child required) 2 Weeks – Saturday, Oct 26 & Saturday, Nov 2, 10am-12pm Members $100, Non-members $125 per adult and child pair
	This class will meet 2 Saturdays and explore sketch booking as a family activity. In this class we will bind our own sketchbooks, create our own travel watercolor pallet and explore techniques for creating fast plain air sketches in water color. Lesson will include introduction to observational drawing, proper use of materials, and how to for parents looking to engage their children through the arts as well as find some time to do their own sketching. 1 parent/adult per child. All materials included.
	Crash Course Alla Prima Portraits in a Day Ages: Teen – Adult Saturday, Nov 9, 10am-4pm Members $95, Non-members $120
	This workshop is designed to create a relaxed, fun, informative, yet intense working environment. Learn to use direct fluid and fast painting process with heavy emphasis on the use, value relationships, color, and capturing sense of light. Learn to use the elements that make a painting stronger and exciting: creative use of color & edges, visual movement, paint application/ brushwork, distribution of abstract shapes and strong design. All materials provided.

City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs is now registering students for Session IV classes and workshops.

Day and evening sessions are offered for children, teens, and adults in all skill levels. Sessions began September 9 and run through October 18 and are held at the Department of Cultural Affairs studios located at 9 W. Henry Street.

Three-week and six week classes are available, as well as weekend workshops. Visual arts class mediums include ceramics, glass, metalsmithing and painting and drawing. New this session are Intro to Lapidary Stone Cutting Workshop, Mixed Media in a Series Workshop, Children’s Artwork 2D/3D, Beginning Lapidary, and Ceramics Surface Design Sampler.

Class fees include instruction, use of studio space, use of equipment and all materials and tools required. Space is limited and advance registration is required. Credit cards are accepted. More info & registration forms are available by calling (912) 651-6783.

Generally, events are planned for a two-hour session. This session includes one hour of fun instruction focused on a theme of your choice. Glor na Daire Academy of Irish Dance will host an open house on Tuesday, August 13th from 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Savannah.

The studio is located at 7176 Hodgson Memorial (behind Batteries Plus).

This will give anyone interested in Irish dance the best opportunity to see a little bit of class, as well as get all the information they’ll need to get started. The teachers will share information about classes (what to expect in the coming year), Glor gear (what your dancers will need for class and for performances), competitions, performances, tuition, registration, etc.
