Summer Camps

Up to 1 in 7 women experiences depression after her baby’s birth — making it one of the most common complications of pregnancy.

To raise awareness of postpartum depression and maternal mental health, the Climb out of the Darkness 2019 event in Savannah will be held on June 22 2019 in Lake Mayer. Held on or near the longest day of the year, this annual walk helps shine the most light on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) such as postpartum depression and anxiety.

The walk also is to support Georgia’s chapter of Postpartum Support International (PSI), which is the ​leading​ organization dedicated to supporting women who experience PMADs.

Money raised is used to fund PSI Georgia Chapter, which promotes awareness, prevention and treatment of maternal health issues related to childbearing in the state of Georgia.

Last year, the Savannah team helped the state of Georgia raise over $20,000 via donations, which was more than any other state raised. Savannah’s was one of 13 Climbs in Georgia.

An example of this money in action: PSI GA hosted a 2-day maternal mental health training in May in Macon for over 125 providers who work with moms.

Postpartum Depression Support in Savannah

A donation-based postpartum support group for moms during baby’s first year meets at the Midwife Group & Birth Center in Savannah. The group will start up again on Aug. 23 2019. More info online here.

Start your day with art! Once a month, Telfair Museums’ youngest patrons are invited to the Savannah museum for story time, a special tour, and an art activity. Strollers, crying babies, toddlers, and older siblings are all welcome @ this Art Start Stroller & Toddler museum tour.

At Risen Savior Lutheran’s Soccer Camp 2019 in Pooler, children from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade will spend three days learning valuable soccer skills from an experienced coaching staff as well as important lessons from God’s Word.

So when an event comes around promoting education and fundraising for breast cancer, such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Swanson and company are quick to engage.

HYPERFORMANCE YOUTH STRENGTH CAMP

Every school weight room is different. Sport coaches are great on the field or court, but in the weightroom that can be a different story.

Savannah Children’s Museum invites the public to attend Bug Fest 2019, the annual family-friendly celebration buzzing with bug themed crafts, activities and workshops. The event will be held Saturday, May 25, 10AM-2PM at the Savannah Children’s Museum, 655 Louisville Rd. Savannah, GA 31401.

This year, attendees can learn about the importance of bees and other natural pollinators with the Coastal Empire Beekeepers Assn., enter the Insectarium with Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus Entomology class, meet some friendly reptiles from Georgia Reptile Society, while learning about their healthy diet of bugs, build your own insects with Snapology of Savannah, discover bug biology and how insects play a vital role in Savannah’s waterways with Ogeechee Riverkeeper and enjoy bug-themed Zumbini with Desirae Suggs, a licensed Zumbini instructor, on our stage at 11 am and 1 pm.

Savannah Children’s Museum educators will also be delivering programs and activities, such as the eat-a-bug club, insect activities and many other creepy crawly programs throughout the day. Prowl food truck and Savannah Square Pops will be on Sugar Beet Bluff picnic area, just outside of Savannah Children’s Museum’s entrance with delicious food and ice pops available for purchase.

The Coastal Heritage Society vendor cart will also be on-site with bug related merchandise for purchase.

Admission to Bug Fest is included in the cost of regular admission to Savannah Children’s Museum, $8 for all guests 18 months and older. This event is FREE for Coastal Heritage Society members. The day of Bug Fest, there will be a special $90 membership promotion for guests who sign up to become members on-site.

Summer in Savannah means time for free spray pools in some Savannah parks.

Kids can enjoy a cool water experience at the park under adult supervision.

Locations include: Avondale, Hull Park, Forrest Hills,  Paulsen 38th Street Park, Savannah Gardens, and Victory Heights Parks.

VIDEO GAME DESIGN I-II
Campers will learn the basic principles of video game design, and will use real software development tools to create a functional (and fun!) video game. Video Game Design I & II will each be offered twice.

ROBOTICS I-II
Campers will learn the basic principles of robotics and automation, working with a variety of technologies to create and program functional robot vehicles. Each student will get to keep their own kit. Robotics I & II will each be offered twice.

MINECRAFT I-IV
Perfect for younger campers, this camp uses Minecraft to teach a variety of subjects, from electronic circuits to art to economics.

FREEPLAY GAMING
Available just before the start of the summer session. It’s not a class. It’s just playing games and having fun. All day long. All week long.

For each scoop served, Moose Tracks will donate $1 to The Salvation Army of Savannah in hopes of raising $10,000 in just four hours to help fund ongoing community projects.

The goal is to have 10,000 attendees to reach our $10,000 donation goal.
