Looking for a kid-friendly daytrip destination from Savannah?
We love Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Is. – a roughly 70 minute drive from Savannah. While there be sure to try to catch a sighting of one of the manatees (pictured above in a photo we took in July 2022) that hang out @ Harbour Town Yacht Basin. The manatees sometimes can be seen in the part of the marina near where this sign pictured below is posted, where the arrow points in the photo below.
Other places to visit there while in Sea Pines (aside from the beach at Sea Pines Beach Club): Gregg Russell playground @ Harbour Town; Lawton Stables (free animal farm, pony rides for a fee); Stoney-Baynard Ruins; Sea Pines Forest Preserve and Wildflower Field (picnic tables next to Lake Joe).
There’s still time to catch a legendary free Gregg Russell concert outdoors under Liberty Oak in Harbour Town this 2022 summer season. See his Summer 2022 performance schedule here. This beloved family-oriented singer/storyteller performs sing-a-longs, ballads and silly songs with audience participation. Kids often make & bring “pick-me-to sing-with-you” signs to hold up for Gregg to see.

While on Hilton Head Is. be sure to visit The Sandbox Children’s Museum and neighboring Adventure Playground @ Lowcountry Celebration Park.

Adventure Playground @ Lowcountry Celebration Park, Hilton Head Is.
The spacious Adventure Playground features a giant ship complete with mist cannons. located off Pope Avenue near the Coligny Beach parking lot. Adventure Playground is open from sunrise to sunset. Restroom facilities at the park close at 10PM. Parking is available in the Coligny Beach Parking Lot, the parking lot off Nassau Street or onstreet parking on Nassau Street. Details here.

The Gregg Russell Playground at Harbour Town is one of the top playgrounds in our area.
Fenced, somewhat shaded playground that includes a treehouse; swings; numerous slides; lots of climbing bars, jungle gym bars, monkey bars. Just outside the fenced-playground is a water fountain; picnic tables; bathrooms; and plenty of spots for lunch, drinks or coffee and of course, the famous Harbour Town lighthouse which is open to climb for a fee plus $9 Sea Pines gate fee.

Toddler Tuesdays nature program @ Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah
Toddler Tuesday is a program for 1-4 year old children and their caregivers that focuses on one of Oatland’s animals, or a relevant nature theme. The program includes: singing, fingerplay, a story, an encounter with one of our animals, and a take-home craft.
Sessions are offered twice on Tuesdays from 10-10:30AM & 11-11:30AM and registration is required. There are a limited number of spaces so reserve early!

Martial Art & Leadership Program Camp 2022, Savannah

The Junior Jazz Foundation would like to announce that they still have space available in all three of their summer jazz programs including the following:
Hilton Head Jazz Clinic (recommended ages 10-14, tuition $229): A 3-hour daily jazz clinic with college jazz camp alumni and upcoming faculty (June 20-24, 1pm-4pm), all-day music trip to Savannah on June 22, and finale performance on June 24. Our seventh annual jazz clinic is a combination of private lessons, small combos, with instruction in theory/improv geared towards beginning students beginning their journey into jazz and improvisation. Only one year of playing experience is required for this clinic. Please note that the registration fee is separate from tuition. This clinic also includes an all-day music trip to Savannah on Wednesday, June 22 with lunch provided. A final clinic performance will be held in the HHCA Performing Arts Center on Friday, June 24th at 5pm. No audition is required. This new program is offered as a way for guitarists to have a grasp on how to play jazz in a non-competitive setting. At least two to three years of playing experience is a pre-requisite for the jazz guitar institute. This program is a highly recommended for any guitarists who also plan on attending the Hilton Head Jazz Camp. Also included is an all-day music trip to Savannah on Wednesday, June 22nd with lunch provided. Please note that the registration fee is separate from tuition. A final joint performance with the jazz clinic students will be held in the HHCA Performing Arts Center on Friday, June 24th at 5pm. No audition is required.
Hilton Head Jazz Camp (recommended ages 14-20, tuition $449): A full day camp with 18 full-time professional faculty from across the country (July 11-16, 9am-4pm) concluding with a camp recital and finale performance. With a combination of large big bands, small combos, theory, improv, elective courses, masterclasses and performances, this premier jazz camp is geared towards intermediate to advanced middle and high school students. With an additional vocal jazz and strings program, we offer something for every music student! Tuition also includes a daily chef-prepared lunch & all daytime activities, masterclasses, and 2 complimentary tickets to the finale performance on July 16th at 2pm. Students should have had 3+ years of playing experience, but no audition is required for entry into the camp. Placement auditions will be held prior to camp to determine the appropriate ensemble for our students. Overnight accommodations discounts and scholarships are available on a limited basis.
