No Tara Feis in Savannah for St. Patrick’s

Friday, January 19th, 2018

Tara Feis – the beloved annual free St. Patrick’s festival in Savannah – will not happen again this year because the city of Savannah did not to fund it in this year’s budget.

The non-alcoholic family-friendly festival in Emmet Park was the kick-off of Savannah St. Patrick Day festivities for 26 years and took place the Saturday before the parade.

WTOC-TV reported the city was cutting funds for Tara Feis in 2018. The city did not fund the festival again for 2019.

“This is in no way the city of Savannah saying that Tara Feis is not a great event. It is the city of Savannah saying that we can no longer be in the festival business,” said City of Savannah Public Information Officer, Michelle Gavin is quoted as saying on in 2018. “The city has to stick with this new strategic plan and really focus on that and commit the funding to those priorities.”

Savannah City Manager Rob Hernandez has changed the way the city awards funds for events such as Tara Feis and the Savannah Children’s Book Festival in Forsyth Park, which has also been cancelled after 14 years.

Find information on the 2019 St. Patrick’s festivities in Savannah & Hilton Head Is. here.

Crossfit Hyperformance Athletics in Savannah: You’re invited to do the Whole Life Challenge

Whole Life Challenge CrossFit Savannah

Guest Post by Jennifer McKenzie, owner of Crossfit Hyperformance Athletics in Savannah

Fitness Starts With Habits – These Habits work together to make you healthier and happier

We see it everyday. Folks ready to get back in shape, wanting to tone up and have more energy. Parents wanting to be a healthy role model for their kids. As a gym owner – I want that for you too! But what many people do not realize is that before you can get fit – you’ve gotta get healthy.

Being healthy is way more than breaking a sweat a few times a week, although that’s parts of it. Healthy means much more than looking leaner and seeing some muscle. It’s the ability to participate in fully in life, deal with stress, and fight illness. If you rely on medications to make it through the day, you are not healthy. If you need to have a glass of wine or sleep aid to fall asleep, you are not healthy. If you rely on an energy drink at 2pm, that is not healthy either.

Health and fitness are part of the same continuum. Once you are healthy – it’s easy to keep doing the same things to get fit. How do we help people get there? Practice the OTHER habits too.

Activity – sweat for at least 10 minutes a day
Mobility – functional stretching for 10 minutes a day
Hydration – get half your body weight in ounces of water
Nutrition – eat a wide variety of God-made food
Sleep – like 7 hours, develop a consistent routine
Reflection – Pat attention to the wisdom of your own experience

Starting THIS Saturday, Jan. 20 2018, we’ll be practicing these habits for 6 weeks as a team. It’s called the Whole Life Challenge and we welcome anyone that wants to dive into these habits to join us.

We kickoff the Challenge at 10am Sat. Jan. 20. Want more information on getting your family happier and healthier? Visit for more information.
