Start your day with art! Once a month, Telfair Museums’ youngest patrons are invited to the Savannah museum for story time, a special tour, and an art activity. Strollers, crying babies, toddlers, and older siblings are all welcome @ this Art Start Stroller & Toddler museum tour.

May’s featured exhibition is Savannah artist Katherine Sandoz’s site specific installation “katniss.”  .

This commissioned work is a large-scale suspended sculpture that forms a constellation of abstracted botanical shapes inspired by the aquatic Sagittaria plant genus. The installation is comprised of acrylic elements and transforms itself as you shift your location and perspective in the Jepson Center, aided by the ever-changing light conditions throughout the atrium. Dynamic and lively, the sculpture evolves in the manner of the native vegetation that inspired its arrangement.

Sign up your little swimmer for a summer swim league for Summer 2019.

Savannah Coastal Swim League (SCSL) offers competitive youth swimming in Savannah/Chatham County, Wilmington Island and Pooler during early summer.

The league consists of eight teams, encompassing more than 800 swimmers, including: Grand Lake Sharks, Isle of Hope Sharks, Landings Lightning Bolts, Mayfair Marlins, Savannah Golf Club Stingrays, Savannah Quarters Sailfish, Savannah Yacht Club Commodores and Wilmington Park Barracudas.

Some of the teams do not require club membership to participate.

Swimmers of all levels are welcome.

The league includes regular practices as well as meets during which various teams compete against each other in late May, June & early July. The 2019 Meet Schedule is posted here.

St. Andrew’s School   in Savannah recently announced Alexus Parker will take over as the new Girls Varsity Basketball Coach for the independent school. Prior to joining the St. Andrew’s team, she taught and coached at other Savannah private schools. She will also join the Upper School science department.

A Savannah native, Parker received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Prairie View A&M University in Texas. While attending college, she played four years of Division I basketball. Parker was named Most Valuable Player, Player of the Year, BOXTOROW HBCU All American, and Best Female Athlete of the Year. She also led Prairie View in scoring and was second in rebounding.

Parker is creating a summer plan to include workouts, clinics, and camps. Conditioning for the Varsity team begins in October.
