Open House @ The Savannah Country Day School (JK-12) Sun. Nov. 11 2018
The program begins at 1:30PM in the Morrison Pangaea Garden.

The Open House is the best way for families to gain a comprehensive view of the Savannah Country Day School experience. Savannah now has an hourly drop-in childcare facility: PlayLand Savannah LLC!

Feel free to visit during business hours to see PlayLand for yourself.  Open 8AM-8PM Mon-Thurs.  PlayLand is open until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights so that parents can enjoy childfree time on weekends.

Also available: a Sitter Services division focused on parents who prefer to book a nanny/sitter (even pet sitters) and have them come to their home.

PlayLand also offers Mother’s Morning Out, birthday parties, a preschool, weekly activities for children up to age 5 such as Story Times, Sensory Play, Tots & Crafts, and Saturday classes such as Sip & Paint (kid style), Slime Making, Toddler Yoga, etc. Learn more here.

To invest in our students and those who teach them is to invest in our future. Applications are now being accepted for  Teach the Future Fellowship in Savannah , a yearlong fellowship for educators dedicated to transforming their schools and classrooms to prepare all students for the world as it is and will be, not as it was.

How can schools and classrooms be restructured to empower students to apply knowledge in new and unique ways? How do schools foster inquisitiveness and creativity? How can the power of technology as a creative tool be employed to enhance and expand students’ ability to connect and create in positive and valuable ways?

These questions are explored by educators in Teach the Future Fellowship in Savannah. Fellows identify a challenge in their classroom or school that they want to explore and for which they want to develop a unique solution. Through a series of programs during the fellowship, educators connect with and explore entrepreneurial approaches and frameworks, and relevant technological tools, that can be used in the development of the solution. Fellows have an opportunity to connect with other educators to help inspire, inform, and develop transformative solutions and approaches to teaching.

The fellowship is open to teachers and educational leaders from public and private institutions in the Savannah area. Fellows will have an opportunity to develop a broader network and connect with local resources in the technological and entrepreneurial space.

Calvary Day School in Savannah welcomes Joseph Almeida as the new assistant principal of the Lower School at Calvary.

Almeida has experience as a teacher, coach, and administrator in Tennessee, Brazil, South Carolina, and now Georgia.  He went to Brazil on a mission trip and was there for seven years. Almeida served as a teacher and later became the elementary principal at School of the Nations in Brasilia, Brazil.  He, his wife, Kathleen, and their children live in Bluffton, SC.

Due to schedule constraints, some Savannah-Chatham County Public School students miss out on a formal Sexual and Health Education Curriculum in school.

Voices For Schools in Savannah is exploring the idea of bringing in educators from an outside educational non-profit (Voices for Schools is currently working on who that will be) to provide this education outside of the school day.

The Exploratorium at The Habersham School in Savannah offers athletic, academic, and arts summer camps including Junior STEM Camp for rising 3rd-5th graders & STEM Camp for rising 6th-8th graders.

Junior STEM Camp is 8:30-11:30AM, July 16-20 2018. Cost: $150.

Junior STEM Camp is a place for little aspiring engineers and mathematicians to explore and create. This camp provides hands-on learning as campers fly gliders, play with magnetic slime, race propeller cars, and make stomp rockets.

Several camps have a maximum number of children who can enroll. It is best to enroll your child as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to offer and staff courses as described. At Risen Savior Lutheran’s Soccer Camp 2018 in Pooler, children from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade will spend three days learning valuable soccer skills from an experienced coaching staff as well as important lessons from God’s Word.

The camp is Wed. June 20 through Fri. June 22 @ the Pooler Rec Complex (behind the West Chatham YMCA). Camp is 6-8:30PM each day and concludes with a special Soccer Sunday barbecue and festival at church on Sun. June 24.

Registration is only $25 for three action-packed days of fun.
