This six-week class will focus primarily in foundational drawing techniques. Students will learn the fundamental principle of using basic shapes to construct images, specifically designing characters. Lesson one covers some of the basics for drawing the human figure (no nudity). The rest of the lessons build off this principle and dives into how to draw with stylization, movement (gesture drawing), and how to develop details. As students learn and discover their own shape language from these classes, they will be able to use this principle in many more ways than just character design.

Exciting update: ArtStart for preschoolers @ the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina mid-island on Hilton Head has been rescheduled.

This 3-week workshop for kids ages 2-5 is a series of visual arts classes designed to teach color and shape recognition, how to use art tools, and a variety of other concepts allowing students to express themselves using an array of media and methods.

Ignite the Senses children’s gym provides a safe and fun indoor environment for all children including children with autism as well as typical children.

Wells is the author of several children’s books including Max and Ruby books. She will be visiting The Storybook Shoppe to promote her new book “Hand in Hand”. This book tells the story of all the ways parents are their child’s first teacher.

The afternoon of Mon. Sept. 12 will kick-off with story time as Wells shares “Hand in Hand” @ 4:30PM sharp and only ticket holders will be able to attend.

Tickets for the reading are $25 including a signed copy of “Hand in Hand.” Companion tickets will also be available for $5 each. Because there are only 30 tickets available, The Storybook Shoppe can only offer a single companion ticket when you purchase a ticket to the reading.

Proceeds from the sale of story time tickets will be donated to two local charities: CAPA (Child Abuse Prevention Association) and The United Way of the Lowcountry’s pre-school program.

After the reading, Ms. Wells will hold a book signing for everyone that would like her to dedicate a book. The book signing should start around 4:45PM and is open to everyone. No ticket needed!

As a treat, Candlewick Press has released 70 copies of “Little Fiona’s Lie” for The Storybook Shoppe to sell at the signing – a unique opportunity to get this book prior to its Sept. 13 release date. MOPS provides a fun, relaxed environment for mothers with newborns through 5-year-olds. You’ll make new friends, enjoy activities and hear from relevant and insightful speakers on a wide range of topics. There is an annual membership cost of $24.95 for MOPS International and an additional $6 fee per meeting you attend. Childcare is available with RSVP prior to each meeting.
