This year, they’ll be digging deeper into understanding the art of inquiry.

Classical Conversations is excited to announce that the 2015 Parent Practicum theme will be science, emphasizing the building nature of science explorations: they lead to understanding and AWE.

The practicum will begin with the grammar stage of curiosity and wonder, through the dialectic, and end with the rhetoric stage of awe in the face of dawning understanding. Wonder to wonder!

About Massie Heritage Center

Built in 1856 on beautiful Calhoun Square, Massie School is the oldest public school in Georgia. Closing as a traditional school in 1974, but remaining part of the Savannah-Chatham Public School System, Massie reopened as a Heritage Center in 1978 providing curriculum-based educational programs for school children K – 12. Massie also houses several hands-on exhibits showcasing the history and architecture of Savannah.

 City Plan—The 3-D model of the city’s Historic Landmark District incorporates interactive laser shows to explain James Oglethorpe’s plan for the city.

 Architecture—This exhibit illustrates the 18 different building styles found in Savannah and how they use the classical influences of Greek, Gothic and Roman architecture.

 Savannah’s Preservation—Highlights of this movement are told through artifacts and photographs focusing on the Victorian Era.

 Native Americans–The 12,000 year history of these early inhabitants of Coastal Georgia is presented with both artifacts and replica items, including information about MicoTomochichi.

 Heritage Classroom—Our authentic 1850’s classroom allows you to travel back in time and experience school life using slate boards and quill pens. The school history includes uses over the year as a Civil War hospital and Freedmen’s Bureau School.

 Savannah’s Maritime History—Due to open later this year, this exhibit will house a collection of model ships and explain the history of the Savannah River, regional trade and military uses.
