Each month features a special project designed to connect with an exhibition at the museum. A studio assistant is always on hand to answer questions and assist guests.
Drop-In Studio is perfect for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
Attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character in honor of the children’s book author. The event will take place from 10 am to 1pm at Savannah Children’s Museum, 655 Louisville Rd. Savannah, GA 31401.
Our museum educators will lead the group with Seuss stories, games and activities. Dancing Oobleck, fantastical arts and crafts, and a rhyming scavenger hunt maze are only a few of the fun activities in which families can participate. We will also have many community partners providing Seuss-filled fun throughout the day!
Admission to Savannah Seuss Fest 2023 is included in the cost of regular admission to Savannah Children’s Museum, $10 for all guests 18 months and older.

This afternoon class is designed to help upper-elementary and middle school students improve their drawing and painting skills, build a portfolio, and begin the process of developing good art-making habits. Students will focus on measurement, proportion, perspective, use of value, and color to create volume and space. Lessons and projects will work on site and at outdoor locations near the museum. All materials are provided.

Join us at the Jepson Center to develop your young person’s skills as a photographer. We believe that all young people are artists. With that in mind, we will approach photography as professionals do, studying the elements of art. The camp will meet outside as much as possible as we explore our environment in Telfair Square and other nearby locations. We will use DSLR digital cameras and learn about exposure, and a few historical methods involving film. Photography is fun and accessible to everyone.

Georgia’s State Historic Sites are offering free admission on Sun. Feb. 5 as part of Super Museum Sunday.
That includes:
Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation State Historic Site, Brunswick: A forgotten empire comes alive at this scenic rice plantation set among live oaks near the Altamaha River. Tour the antebellum home furnished with antiques and the museum showcasing fine silver.
Fort McAllister State Park, Richmond Hill: Nestled among giant live oaks, this is the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy and the end of General Sherman’s March to the Sea.
Pickett’s Mill Battlefield State Historic Site, Dallas: Pickett’s Mill is one of the best-preserved Civil War battlefields in the nation, highlighted with a museum, earthworks, and wooded trails. The 1864 battle was one of the few Confederate victories during Gen. Sherman’s Georgia campaign.
Magnolia Springs State Park, Millen: During the Civil War, this site was called Camp Lawton and served as “the world’s largest prison.” Today, little remains of the prison stockade; however, the earthen breastworks which guarded it may still be seen. The park’s Camp Lawton Museum tells this gripping story.
Fort King George State Historic Site, Darien: From 1721 until 1736, this fort was the southern outpost of the British Empire in North America. Climb into the reconstructed cypress blockhouse, explore the palisaded earthen fort, and tabby ruins, tour the museum and hike a short nature trail.
Fort Morris State Historic Site, Midway: This earthen fort on the Medway River protected Georgia against the British in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. A museum describes the colonial port of Sunbury; a nature trail and picnic sites are available.
Wormsloe State Historic Site, Savannah: A breathtaking avenue lined with Live Oaks leads to the tabby ruins of this colonial estate. A museum houses artifacts excavated at Wormsloe and a film about the founding of the 13th colony.
Bring your little ones to Telfair Museums’ final Art Start: Stroller and Toddler Tour of the year on Thursday, December 15 at 10:30am at the Jepson Center in downtown Savannah.
On Thurs. Dec. 15 2022 10:30-11:30AM, Telfair Museums’ youngest patrons are invited to the Jepson Center for story time, a special tour, and an art activity.
Toddler Tuesday is a program for 1-4 year old children and their caregivers that focuses on one of our animals, or a relevant nature theme. The program will meet at the picnic pavilion and will include singing, finger play, a story, and a possible encounter with one of our furry, feathered or scaly residents.
Occasionally the program ventures to an exhibit, so dress appropriately and bring your stroller and walking shoes. Toddler Tuesday is weather dependent and in case of extreme weather and a cancellation is called for, attendees will be emailed at the address you registered your child with.
Sessions are offered twice on Tuesdays from 10 – 10:30AM & 11-11:30AM and registration is not required, but it helps us speed up check in and if there is a cancellation you will be the first to know.
$5 for children participating in the program (members and non members must pay program fee)
$3 per class if you buy a multi pass punch card (6 class minimum purchase)

Old Fort Jackson’s dynamic, living history presentations take place from 10 AM until Noon, and from 1 until 3 PM each day.
Fri. Nov. 25: there will be portrayal of Union and Confederate Soldiers who fought in the Battle of Honey Hill, South Carolina, on Nov. 30th, 1864. These soldiers included the 55th Massachussetts Volunteers, who eventually served at Old Fort Jackson. Experience renowned rifle musket and cannon firings, along with battlefield surgery presentations.
Sat. Nov. 26: there will be a portrayal of Union and Confederate Soldiers and Civilians from Savannah. Hear the story behind the history of Thanksgiving as celebrated in 1864. Experience firing of the mighty 32 Pounder Cannon. Local musicians from Bella Harmony Music, period dancing as well! In the afternoon, participants will portray civilians on the homefront, along with the Savannah Republican Blues, plus the renowned Infantry and Artillery Drill, and Battle Drill with guests.
Lowcountry Celebration Park, one of Hilton Head Island’s newest parks that reflects some of its coastal, historical and environmental attributes, was recognized with an Award of Excellence for its design.
The South Carolina Chapter American Society of Landscape Architects presented the award, which is the highest honor it bestows, at its annual conference held recently in Greenville, South Carolina. Chris Darnell, an Urban Designer with the Town of Hilton Head Island, and Wood and Partners, the firm that designed the park, accepted the award.
Inspired by Shi Jinsong’s motorcycle works, on view in the artist’s exhibition Waiting for a response which we might never get transform holiday icons into whimsical sculptures using polymer clay.

Free Family Day @ Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center features family activities from 1-4PM based on the exhibitions Feels Like Freedom: Phillip J. Hampton and Elegies: Still Lifes in Contemporary Art. Families may explore and experiment with art materials, create still lifes, and make string art inspired by the work of Phillip J. Hampton.
The afternoon also will include a demonstration of still life painting and a “living still life” activity.

The Andrew Low House Museum is hosting a Community Day on Sunday, Sept. 18, noon-4PM. The museum will be open to the public FREE of charge with tours for the community to experience the site’s history, architecture, and art.
The fun filled day has something for everyone, including scavenger hunts, creative activities, and tasty treats for all in the museum’s courtyard. The Andrew Low House is located at 329 Abercorn St. on Lafayette Square.
To encourage all to explore the beautiful area around the Andrew Low House, the Municipal Archives has developed two new scavenger hunts to get you out and about.

Constitution Day @ Georgia Historical Society Research Center in Savannah
You are invited to the Georgia Historical Society Research Center in Savannah on Constitution Day on Fri. Sept. 16 2022 to view a draft of the Constitution along with other colonial-era pieces from the collection.
View Abraham Baldwin’s original draft copy of the US Constitution. One of only a few still in existence, the draft includes the handwritten margin notes of Baldwin, one of Georgia’s signers of the Constitution of 1787.
This treasure of the GHS collection, along with a recently conserved Revolutionary War-era drum and other unique objects and documents highlighting Georgia’s role in the development and evolution of our national story will be on display Fri. Sept. 16 2022.
The event consists of a self-paced tour with guidance for pre-registered K-12 groups provided by GHS staff and includes a scavenger hunt activity for students. The tour will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
GHS welcomes public, private, and home school groups grades fifth-twelfth to attend. All groups must be accompanied by teacher or parent chaperones. Time slots are available on a first-come-first-served basis starting at 9AM.-2PM on Fri. Sept. 16, 2022. Any group containing more than ten students will need to reserve a time slot.
