Free Drawing Club for Pre-Teens & Teens

Let your imagination run wild at this weekly drawing workshop @ SCAD Museum of Art for aspiring creatives focusing on the basic principles of art and design. Seek inspiration in the galleries, meet new friends, and begin preparing a portfolio of your work as museum educators offer tutorials to perfect your drawing skills.

This workshop for middle school and high school students is free and open to the public, 4PM Wednesdays starting Oct. 2 2024

Calling all homeschooling families! Amplify your student’s artist journey with an enriching workshop at the SCAD Museum of Art. In this immersive experience, education and creativity collide to offer a field study for homeschooled students.

This event presents a unique opportunity for your students to acclimate into the art world as observers and creators. While they feed their creative minds among the exhibitions, they’ll meet other students and foster lasting community connections.

What to expect:

Artist appreciation: Encounter the work of diverse artists while touring the SCAD Museum of Art’s galleries with a museum educator.

Artmaking: Express creative ideas at interactive art stations equipped with the necessary materials and guidance to create art inspired by work seen in the museum.

Build community: Connect with other homeschooling families who share a passion for art and education.

Learn as you go: Deepen your appreciation for the world of visual expression while learning more about art styles, social significance, and the use of varied materials.

ASL Tours @ SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah

Come to SCAD MOA for a docent-led tour presented in American Sign Language. ASL interpreters translate insight and observations for deaf and hearing-impaired audiences.

RSVP at least 48 hours prior to the tour by contacting Hannah Thompson, manager of museum visitation and programming, at hthompso@scad.edu. Sign language interpreters may be requested for all SCAD MOA tours with at least two weeks’ notice.

Child & Caregiver weekly event @ Oatland Island Wildlife Center designed for toddlers ages 1-4

Toddler Tuesday @ Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah is a half hour, action-packed program designed for toddlers 1 to 4 years and their adults.

This is a time for adults to bond with their toddlers while engaging in hands-on activities that promote development and acquiring age appropriate skills.

Activities may include reading story books, singing songs and finger plays, games, guided walks and up close encounters with Oatland’s animal ambassadors.   

The program is offered twice, 10-10:30AM or 11-11:30AM

Cost:

Friends of Oatland Members: $5 per child, up to 2 adults FREE!

All others : $5 per child and regular admission for adults.

This program fee includes program and entrance to Oatland Island Wildlife Center.

Enjoy a Back-to-School Free Family Day with activities based on our current exhibitions at the Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center in Savannah: A Measure of Time: Anila Quayyum Agha, Lingua Flora, and Of One Mind.

Enjoy demonstrations by local artists, including Nancey B. Price, who incorporates floral imagery into her collage works, designer Ryan Cox of the Flower Factory, and #art912 exhibiting artist Alexis Javier.

Families are also invited to create light and pattern art inspired by the work of Anila Agha and explore the Telfair’s Children’s Art Museum.

Toddler Tuesday Parent & Me Nature Program @ Oatland Island Wildlife Center

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Toddler Tuesday is a program for 1-4 year old children and their caregivers that focuses on one of Oatland Island Wildlife Center’s animals, or a relevant nature theme. The program will meet at the picnic pavilion​ and will include singing, finger play, a story, and a possible encounter with one of ​Oatland’s furry, feathered or scaly​ residents.

Occasionally the program ventures to an exhibit, so dress appropriately and bring your stroller and walking shoes. Toddler Tuesday is weather dependent and in case of extreme weather and a cancellation is required,​ attendees will be emailed at the address you registered with which you registered.

​Sessions are offered twice on Tuesdays from 10-10:30AM & 11-11:30AM and registration is not required, but it helps organizers speed up check in and if there is a cancellation you will be the first to know.

$5 for children participating in the program (FOO members and non members must pay program fee)

$3 per class if you buy a multi pass punch card (6 class minimum purchase)
