Deerskins, Rice, and Cotton: Life in Early Savannah History Camp for Rising 1st-5th Graders @ Georgia State Railroad Museum
July 25-29, 9am-1pm

Based at Georgia State Railroad Museum, but with mini-trips to Savannah History Museum, Battlefield Park, and Old Fort Jackson- this camp is a step back in time to the days of old Savannah.

Made just for 1st-5th graders, historic games will be played, children will get a chance to wear clothing and uniforms of the period and will explore on-site buildings that were constructed during the 1800s. On Friday, July 29, a special field trip will be taken to Old Fort Jackson to learn about life as a soldier!

Campers will learn what it’s like to be an Indian trader and will create their own Native American stories. They will learn about Colonial jobs and will pretend to be merchants, making goods, and purchasing from a “marketplace.” Each day will be fun-filled and hands-on as campers step back into the history of Savannah!

Curious Moon Puppet Theatre

This year’s show is “A World of Puppet Stories,” a journey of folk tales from around the world — England, Russia, Africa, and South America. Audiences will cheer for their favorite dog, Skeeter, to finally get his chance to be in the show! This is a traditional puppet show, performed inside a professional, colorful puppet booth. All puppets are handmade by the puppeteer. The show is followed by a demonstration speech about the puppets and puppeteering. The Armstrong Atlantic State University Educational Technology Training Center has two remaining creative computer camps this summer for children grades 4 through 8. Cost for each camp is $150 and includes morning and afternoon snacks. All instructors are certified teachers. Camps will be held from 8:30 a.m.- 4p.m., Monday-Friday, on the Armstrong campus in University Hall, Room 125.
