Get ready for a day of family fun, as Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center offers a free all-ages event celebrating The Age of Armor, 10AM-5PM Sat. Aug. 19 2023
Visitors can see armor and mock battle demonstrations throughout the afternoon presented by the Shire of Forth Castle (Savannah area chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism) and members of Schola St. George (a group focused on the knightly culture and chivalric arts of the later Middle Ages) from Atlanta and the Southeast.
If you’re a local Chatham County resident or student, admission is waived for you to join in the Free Family fun. All you need to do is show proof of residency or enrollment at the front desk.

Toddler Tuesday is a program @ Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah for 1-4 year old children and their caregivers that focuses on one of Oatland’s animals, or a relevant nature theme. The program meets at the picnic pavilion and includes singing, finger play, a story, and a possible encounter with one of Oatland’s furry, feathered or scaly residents.
Occasionally the program ventures to an exhibit, so dress appropriately and bring your stroller and walking shoes. Toddler Tuesday is weather dependent and in case of extreme weather and a cancellation is called for, attendees will be emailed at the address you registered your child with.
Sessions are offered twice on Tuesdays from 10AM-10:30AM & 11AM-11:30AM and registration is not required, but it helps us speed up check in and if there is a cancellation you will be the first to know.
Program Cost:
$5 for adults / free for adult FOO members
$3 for military adults/ free for adult FOO members
$5 for children participating in the program (FOO members and non members must pay program fee)
$3 per class if you buy a multi pass punch card (6 class minimum purchase)

Campers will love designing and constructing their dream inventions and structures using a variety of recycled materials, Legos, and untraditional supplies.
CMOP’s classic camp is back! Explore all of the terrific museum exhibits and participate in our daily programs! We’ll be on the go making projects and inventions, creating art, and having a blast in the exhibits!
Two camp times to choose from. This camp is offered as a morning only camp or choose the all day option.

July 4th Battlefield Tours will be @ 10:30AM, Noon & 2PM @ Savannah History Museum.
March through history and learn about the American Revolution in Savannah. Experience a black powder demonstration, immerse yourself in 1779 Savannah, and hear about the personalities that shaped the city’s fight for freedom.
Tours begin in Savannah History Museum with a brief introduction and then visitors are led to Battlefield Memorial Park for further interpretation of the battle as well as a musket firing demonstration.
Come enjoy an afternoon designed especially for homeschool families on Wed. June 28 2023, 1- 3PM @ Savannah Children’s Museum.
Students and their adults will participate in a hands-on indigo dyeing workshop while learning about the scientific process behind creating a dye from the indigo plant. Guests are welcome to bring their own 100% cotton t-shirt for dyeing.
Homeschool Afternoons and the indigo dyeing workshop are included in standard admission to SCM, $10 per person.

Telfair Museums presents its observation of Juneteenth with two major programs celebrating freedom and African American history and heritage. The museum’s Juneteenth Kickoff Free Family Day Sat. June 10 will feature performances and activities including a libation ceremony followed by story-telling, artist demonstrations, and a musical performance. On Thursday June 15, Telfair will host a Juneteenth lecture presented by Queen Quet.
Housed in the former ArtZeum and other galleries on the south end of the Jepson Center for the Arts, the two-story CAM will build personal connections for children and youth to Telfair Museums, Savannah’s historic district, and the artist experience. There will be hands-on experiences with a wide range of art-centered disciplines.
The space will incorporate Telfair’s growing permanent collection to encourage understanding and appreciation of a diverse array of artists and modes of expression. There will be interactive kiosks that guide young visitors through key ideas and concepts, as well as check-out art kits that inspire family-centered learning and making.
CAM also will allow the museum to expand its programming.

Telfair Museums will offer a preview of the brand-new Children’s Art Museum (CAM) before it opens; CAMpers will be the first to experience new interactive exhibits, explore impressionist art, and make immersive art installations.
This five-day, half-day CAM Summer Camp for ages 7-10 will present engaging projects that include; creating environments using projections and shadow puppets and exploring design principles such as shape, color, movement, and repetition.
Toddlers and their adults will experience themed activities including music, storytelling, arts & crafts, and a visit with Tippy the Tortoise.
All visitors will experience the joy of nature through open exploration of our outdoor museum as well as open play with socialization. The theme will be DINOSAURS! The museum will also welcome special guest Kimberly Gunn from The Love Again Initiative.
The program is included in cost of admission to SCM, $10 per person ages 18 months and up.
Celebrate Old Fort Jackson’s 215th birthday this Sat. May 6 2023, 9:30AM-2:30PM.
Uniformed Resource Educators portraying American soldiers from The American Revolution, The War of 1812, and The American Civil War will be @ Old Fort Jackson in Savannah to lead programs and provide demonstrations of historical weaponry.
9:30AM – Visit with Resource Educators portraying American soldiers who served at the site between 1775 and 1865.
11AM – Celebrate the 215th birthday of Fort James Jackson with a special program and firing of multiple cannon, including an original early 19th century 24 Pounder Gun -the first firing since its restoration by Coastal Heritage Society in 2022.
1PM – Visit with Resource Educators portraying the Savannah Republican Blues in 1860, take part in writing with pen and ink and learn about the revolver and sword.
1:30PM – Riverboat Salute – Join in signaling and firing the 6 Pounder Cannon to salute the Georgia Queen Riverboat and its passengers.
2PM – Gilham’s Infantry Presentation, followed by the firing of the 12 Pounder Mountain Howitzer.

Jepson Center’s next FREE Family Day for locals and activities celebrating the Bold Expressions exhibition is set for Sat. April 29 2023 @ Telfair Museums’ Jepson Center in Savannah.
Inspired by prints in the exhibition and turned wooden bowls by Ed and Phillip Moulthrop, afternoon activities from 1-4PM will include a scavenger hunt, screen-printed t-shirts, and wood turning demonstrations by the Low Country Turners who will make wooden tops for participants.
The Low Country Turners are the Savannah / Hilton Head area chapter of the American Association of Woodturners, and their mission is to provide education, information and a meeting place to those interested in the art and craft of woodworking and woodturning.
