Hold a Terrapin turtle hatchling* and learn about efforts to help the population recover by relocating eggs to safer nesting boxes @ this Diamondback Terrapin Hatchling Show & Tell @ Skidaway Island State Park, 10AM Sat. Aug. 23 & 10AM Sat. Sept. 20 2025.
*All ages welcome to the program. Ages 6 & up may hold a hatchling.
Guest speakers from the Skidaway Audubon Diamondback Terrapin Rescue project will be sharing information about their efforts to help the population recover by relocating eggs to safer nesting boxes.
Come to the Skidaway Island State Park Interpretive Center for this Show & Tell to see the hatchlings and hear about this important project. $5 parking. 912-598-2300.

Fun nature kids’ programs happening in September 2025 @ Skidaway Island State Park in Savannah.
Unless otherwise noted, programs are free. $5 for parking.

Call the Visitor Center at 912.598.2300 to register for programs with an asterisk *.
Archery*: Sunday Sept. 28, 10am-Noon. Hour-long slots available during the hours listed. Learn the basics of archery and test your skills on the range. This program will cover basic safety and technique. Equipment provided. Participants must be at least 10 years old. $10 per person. Please call the Visitor Center to reserve your hour in advance. Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early to check in at the archery range near the day use comfort station.
Corn Hole: 10AM-3PM Labor Day Mon. Sept. 1: Relax, unwind, surrounded by nature, with a game or two of cornhole with your friends, family. Game equipment will be set up outside the Interpretive Center.
Diamondback Terrapin Hatchlings Show & Tell: 10AM Sat. Sept. 20. Fungi Friday Hike, 10AM Friday Sept. 26: Have you ever wondered how and why mushrooms grow the way they do? Join our interpretive ranger to learn more as we find and identify fungi on and near the trails. Be sure to bring your smartphone or camera! Meet at the Big Ferry Trailhead. 1-2 mile hike.
Girl Scouts Love State Parks Day: 9AM-2PM Sat. Sept. 13. Girl Scouts LOVE State Parks – especially Skidaway Island State Park! Gather your Troop, come for a visit. We can always use your help keeping the trails clean. Check in at the front desk in the Visitor Center, 9AM-2PM for assignments, materials. Parking is free for volunteers. Check in at the front desk for your volunteer parking pass.
History Hike – How to Build an Island: 10AM Sun. Sept. 14. Natural history buffs will enjoy this excitng hike all about the formation of the barrier islands in our area, including information about the mega fauna that once lived here. Meet at the Big Ferry Trailhead for a 1.5 mile hike.
History with a Twist* 1-3PM Sat. Sept. 6: It’s 2025 and we’re celebrating 50 years as a state park. Come learn about the history of the area and park while you create and tye-dye your own unique souvenir t-shirt. $20 per person. Sizes available: S, M, L, XL. Shirts are plain white with a special 50 year commemorative design printed in black. Supplies provided. Please call the Visitor Center to register in advance. Meet on the sidewalk on the right side of the Visitor Center.
Paint a Passerine: 2PM Sun. Sept. 7: Fly on over to the Interpretive Center and paint a picture of one of the many perching birds that can be found at the park! Materials provided. Beginners and all ages welcome. $4 per painter.
Read with a Ranger, 10AM Tues. Sept. 16 & Tues. Sept. 23. Young children will enjoy getting out for this hour of interactive reading. Listen to nature stories perfect for children with a love of the outdoors. Meet at the Interpretive Center; program will be held outside in fair weather.
Roving Ranger, Sept. 3, Sept. 11 & 12, Sept. 17, Sept. 25: A ranger will be roving the trails to answer your questions about local flora, fauna, and more.
Snakes of Skidaway: Rat Snake @ 2PM Fri. Sept. 5; 2PM Thurs. Sept. 18: Come by the Interpretive Center to learn all about one of our ambassador snakes: This month, we will feature one of the corn snakes & the eastern king snake. You will have the opportunity to meet & touch the snake.
Unboxing the Box Turtle: 1PM Sun. Sept. 21: Come meet some of our most elusive residents, the box turtles, and learn about their habits and amazing characteristics. Meet in the Interpretive Center.
Your State Parks Day: 10AM Sat. Sept. 27. The Friends of Skidaway Island State Park is growing! Make new friend, join our group of volunteers as we tackle the trails, filling holes & cuƫting back vegetation. Bring work gloves, a water bottle. Meet at the Interpretive Center. Be prepared to help with trail cleanup for 2 – 2.5 hours. Snacks will be provided by the Friends of Skidaway Island State Park.
