COLLECTING IMPRESSIONISM’ FREE FAMILY DAY

From more than 7,000 works in the museum’s permanent collection, Telfair presents ‘Collecting Impressionism,’ including some of the finest paintings in the United States. Children and families will be invited to create their own miniature Impressionist works and go on a scavenger hunt throughout the exhibition. Local artists will be on hand to lead plein air painting demonstrations in front of the museum, and local musicians will provide a program of Impressionist music in the auditorium at 2pm.

Toddler Time – held on some Thursday mornings March-May – is the perfect morning out.
Geared towards toddlers and their caregivers, the morning will begin with story time or musical education. Next, art exploration will follow then sensory exploration and open play with a focus on socialization. Complimentary coffee will be provided.

Savannah Children’s Museum will open early from 9-10AM Sat. March 14 2020 for families with special needs or children who have autism to enjoy the site with less crowds and tailored sensory friendly programming.
Tickets: $8 for all guests and FREE for members.
Attendees are welcome to stay after 10AM for regular museum hours.
Savannah Children’s Museum exhibits can be enjoyed by all ages but are designed for children 12 years old and younger.

Savannah Children’s Museum to host Dr. Seuss Themed Event
On Sat., Feb. 29 2020, families are invited to celebrate the fun and whimsical world of Dr. Seuss during “Seuss Fest” 10AM-3PM @ Savannah Children’s Museum, 655 Louisville Rd. Savannah, GA 31401.
Dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss character in honor of the children’s book author, who would be celebrating his 116th birthday on March 2.
Museum educators will lead the group with Seuss stories, games and activities. Highlights include: Seuss Science Station, a Read-A-Thon and a Seusstastic Selfie Station, complete with costumes and props.
Community partners will provide Seuss-filled fun throughout the day. The Dwaine and Cynthia Willett Children’s Hospital of Savannah will lead a Green Eggs and Ham Relay as well as a “make your own water bottle” activity, Live Oak Public Library will lead literacy and reading themed activities, and Savannah Children’s Theatre will share Seuss-themed performances at 10:30 and noon.
Admission to “Seuss Fest” is included in the cost of regular admission to Savannah Children’s Museum,: $8 for all guests 18 months and older. This event is free for Coastal Heritage Society members. Learn about becoming a member here.

Toddlers Tuesdays @ Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah.
The popular Savannah nature program for kids offers a choice of 2 times: 10-10:45AM; and 11-11:45AM.
It is the same program each time, just pick the time that is more convenient to you.
Cost of the program: $5 per child that is participating and regular admission for the rest of your party. This is a special fundraising program, so even if you are members the cost is $5 per child.
Pre-registration is required! Space is limited to 15 students per session. Registration closes on Tuesday at 7:30AM. Please cancel if you know you won’t make it to open spaces for other children. Click on link below to register.

Get tickets now for Coastal Heritage Society’s 2020 “Night at the Museum” event on Sat. Jan. 25 2020 @ Savannah History Museum, 303 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
The annual event takes visitors through night guard training and then on a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum.
Guests will be able to interact with historic characters from Savannah History Museum’s exhibits as they appear to magically come to life. This year’s characters include: Casimir Pulaski, Alida Harper-Fowlkes, Susie King Taylor, and many more!
This popular annual event consists of a 90-minute interactive program in the museum. Guests will have the option to choose from two time slots for the program: 5-6:30PM or 6:30-8PM. Event participants will also have two opportunities to view the film “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” at 3 pm and 8 pm. The 98-minute film screening is optional and seating is first come, first served.

Telfair Museums continues to lead the conversation in art and technology with its 13th installment of the PULSE Art + Technology Festival.
The 2020 festival will take place from January 23-26 at Telfair’s Jepson Center.
PULSE 2020 showcases artists and creatives who demonstrate how technology can either work against us or help us solve global problems.
The multi-day event invites individuals of all ages to enjoy exciting exhibitions, screenings, lectures, workshops, and educational events. The exhibition Machines of Futility features interactive works that question technology’s usefulness, while installations in the museum’s TechSpace titled Second Nature connect virtual and augmented reality, and games with the natural world.

Each month features a special project designed to connect with a specific exhibition at the museum. A studio assistant is always on hand to answer questions and assist guests. Drop-In Studio is open year round and perfect for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Each month, the Jepson Center offers fun new art projects @ the daily Drop-In Studio to relate back to the exhibitions on view in the museum.
December theme is watercolor! The projects will relate to the William Kawamee-Poh exhibit and the Summons the Sea exhibit currently on view at the Jepson Center.

While at The Jepson Center, visit ArtZeum, an interactive children’s museum space. It’s designed with young people in mind, but it challenges young and old alike to rethink their ideas about art. The ArtZeum features 14 activities exploring some big ideas about art: What is it? Why do we make it? How do we look at art? How do we value it?

Summon the Sea! with free family activities celebrating the sea in celebration of the exhibit: Summon the Sea! Contemporary Artists and Moby Dick.

Participants in this free event will explore ocean ecology and whale-themed crafts. Experience contemporary artists’ take on Herman Melville’s classic novel Moby-Dick. The museum will offer a fun-filled afternoon day of informal learning, music, activities, and presentations related to life under the sea.
Summon the Sea! Free Family Day for Savannah/Chatham County offers a fun-filled afternoon of informal learning, music, hands on activities, and presentations on marine ecology. Experience contemporary artists’ take on Herman Melville’s classic novel Moby-Dick in the exhibition Summon the Sea! Contemporary Artists and Moby Dick. Children’s activities include a nautical photo booth, origami whales and paper scrimshaw.
Presenters include Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary with STEAM activities presented by Marine Science students from Savannah State University. Don’t miss the opportunity to see Righty, the 21-foot long inflatable replica of a female North Atlantic right whale. Performance by the Around the Globe Sea Chantey Singers at 3PM: Come for a rare Savannah appearance by this Athens-based group led by Georgia music and art legend Art Rosenbaum.
The program will include authentic sea chanties, nautical instrumentals and audience participation. Free to City of Savannah and Chatham County residents!
