Get on stage this summer with Performing Arts camps at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center! Each week you’ll dive into a theme to learn behind the stage magic and on stage performance. Each week ends with a mini showcase for family and friends.

July 12: Spellbound Enchantment | Ages 6-8 and 9-12
Visit fantastic new realms as you act, dance, and imagine your way through some of Broadway’s favorite magical shows!
July 19: Adventures on the High Seas | Ages 6-8 and 9-12
Dive into the worlds of Little Mermaid and Moana with song, dance, and arts activities that are sure to make a splash!
July 26: Make a Scene | Ages 13-17
Teen actors will spend the week exploring all things theatre, developing skills in improv, script writing, performance technique, and stage design.

Drama Adventures classes for ages 5-12, Savannah

Jump into the exciting world of performing arts through the world of Oz! Ease on down the yellow brick road – acting, dancing, and creating – alongside the colorful characters and storylines of the wonderful Wizard and friends. Each drama class features a new creative adventure and encourages young performers of any ability to build confidence and express themselves on stage and on the Zoom screen.

2 Sessions for different age groups available:

Session 1: Ages 5 to 7

Artist Adventures

Each week, a different activity prepared for ages 9 to 12 years will foster creative expression. A variety of visual arts skills across different media will be explored and paired with famous artists and art movements. Register online here.

This spring break, join the Art Crime Team (A.C.T.) to solve an art mystery!

The Savannah Cultural Arts Center’s engaging spring break camp encourages creative participation, clue spotting, and ends the week with a mystery solved.

Camp is offered virtually and in two sessions tailored to different ages, 5 to 7 and 8 to 11, over spring break (March 29-April 2).

The virtual morning session for ages 5 to 7 runs from 9:30-11AM and the afternoon session for ages 8 to 11 runs 1- 3PM.

The camp includes an art spy kit with supplies needed for the week’s projects! (Curbside pickup from the Savannah Cultural Arts Center.)

Using a unique blend of Zoom-friendly improv and playwriting activities, young actors will explore new ways to create theatre from the ground up. Over seven weeks, creative minds will be stretched and traditional limitations of live performance will be broken, as participants work to develop original scenes, monologues, and characters, culminating in a final virtual showcase for friends and family.

This class is intended for 9 to 12-year-olds with any level of experience.

Savannah schools: St. Andrew’s wins one-act pay regional competition

ST. ANDREW’S WINS ONE-ACT PLAY REGIONAL COMPETITION

This group of  St. Andrew’s School thespians pictured above was just named Region 2AA Champions at the GISA One-Act Play Competition.

Their performance of Radium Girls took top honors: Senior Eden Young was named Best Director, and four students were recognized as All Region Actors – Isabelle Booth ’23, Lucy Miller ’22, Madigan Mourning ’20, and Cayleigh Nicholson ’20.

Next on the schedule is the State Competition on Thurs. Nov. 14 2019.

Radium Girls, based on a true story, tells the story of women who painted watch dials for the U.S. Radium Corporation in the 1920’s. The fast-paced play follows their journey as they become deathly ill and look for answers to this mysterious disease.

Master Dance Class Hilton Head Island The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina is thrilled to present the Dance Theatre of Harlem for two performances, as well as a student field trip and several education outreach residencies, October 31-November 2.

Area dancers are invited to take a Master Dance class with the company dance master this Mon. Oct. 31! Don’t miss this opportunity to dance with this acclaimed company, considered “one of ballet’s most exciting undertakings,” by The New York Times.

The 90 minute DTH Master Class at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina will be conducted for students with previous training in dance and Intermediate to Advanced Dance experience is recommended. Clay leaf bowls art workshop kids parents Hilton Head Is. Family Fun: Clay Autumn Leaf Bowls

Each participant (ages 5-adult) will use leaves and terra cotta clay to create a trio of bowls or dishes. After works dry they will be bisque fired and clear glazed before being returned. This six-week class guides new improvisers into the world of make-believe and creativity. Students will learn to support their peers, make positive choices, and employ acting skills. Students will also learn to create scenes and participate in group games and exercises. Students will get to perform for friends and family during a recital after the six-week course concludes.

Actor’s Studio: Intro to Acting for Youth (6 Weeks) NEW

For six weeks, students will participate in activities and exercises to help them make character choices and learn how to convey emotions to an audience. From monologues to silent scenes, blocking, and expressive movement, this course will help prepare you for all the elements of theatre and help you conquer the stage!

Character Design (6 Weeks) NEW

Ages: 12+
Wednesdays, November 2 – December 14, 4:00 – 5:30pm
This six-week class will focus primarily in foundational drawing techniques. Students will learn the fundamental principle of using basic shapes to construct images, specifically designing characters. Lesson one covers some of the basics for drawing the human figure (no nudity). The rest of the lessons build off this principle and dives into how to draw with stylization, movement (gesture drawing), and how to develop details. As students learn and discover their own shape language from these classes, they will be able to use this principle in many more ways than just character design.

The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina mid-island on Hilton Head is hosting the acclaimed Dance Theatre of Harlem for two performances and a 90 minute master dance class.

The Master Class on Mon. Oct. 31 at 5:30PM will be taught by the company director, ballet master or a company member and emphasize focus, discipline and the classical technique practiced at Dance Theatre of Harlem.

Savannah art improv youth classes Fall 2016

Register now for The City of Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs Fall Visual Arts classes and Workshops.

Day and evening sessions are offered for children, teens and adults in all skill levels.  Classes begin September 12 and run through October 21. All classes and workshops are held at the Department of Cultural Affairs studios, located at 9 W. Henry St.

Four and six week classes are available, as well as weekend workshops.  Visual arts sessions include ceramics, metals, glass, printmaking and fibers.  New this session are Improv classes for youth and adults as well as Glass Beads and Jewelry, Printmaking Three Ways, Hand Embroidery, Mold Making, and Slipcasting.

Class fees include instruction, use of studio space, use of equipment and all materials and tools required. Space is limited and advance registration is required.  Credit cards are accepted.

This six-week class introduces Savannah’s Improv Company (SiC) method to create improvised scenes based on audience suggestions. Students in “Intro to Improv” will participate in group games and exercises that help everyone remember how to play. The focus will be on having fun and learning how to start an improv scene. As a bonus, you’ll get to perform for friends and family during a recital after the six-week course concludes.

Fibers
Hand Embroidery (6 Weeks) NEW

Ages 12+
Tuesdays, September 13 – October 18, 10:00am – 12:00pm
Join this class and explore the art of hand embroidery! All levels welcome to participate. This course will cover the fundamentals of hand embroidery, a variety of techniques and different stiches. Students will learn the basics of embroidery and decorate an item of their choice.

Hand Weaving (6 Weeks) NEW
Instructor: Mary Bass
Ages 12+
Wednesdays, September 14 – October 19, 10:00am – 12:00pm
Learn to hand weave from start to finish! Students will learn how to create their own weaving board and will work with a variety of fiber materials. The course will cover basic hand weaving techniques on a cardboard loom and students to create a small bag, a stuffed animal, or a decorative pillow.

Ceramics
Children’s Clay (6 Weeks)

This introductory clay class will teach young students the fundamentals of hand building and sculpture. Students will work with coils and slabs and a variety of glazes.

Welcome all potential teen potters! During this six-week course, we will explore the potter’s wheel as well as hand building and sculpture techniques.
