We paired the Santa theme with a children’s music session with Savannah music teachers Amy Drew and Anthony Teixeira. The musicians performed a range of children’s and holiday sing-alongs, brought tons of instruments for the kids to play as well as cute animal masks and more. They kept the children entertained and engaged. Both offer private lessons in musical instruments and Ms. Amy has a new session of parent-and-me early childhood sessions starting in January at Ms. Amy’s School of Music in Savannah , a private studio just two blocks from Daffin Park in Savannah. Today we celebrated my son’s 4th birthday with an art party at artist Carrie Christian’s Scribble Art Studio in Savannah.

That’s right. An art party with a roomful of messy mostly preschoolers. Sounds daunting doesn’t it? But art teacher Carrie Christian managed to pull off a perfect, unique, creative event. Carrie had the painting project set up when guests arrived. She designed the project and party decor around my son’s selected theme: wild animals. Carrie could not have been more patient and easy-going with our wee guests, who left eager to return for Carrie’s Saturday preschooler art classes. She was also a champ at dealing with my planning questions and often nebulous guest count.

Other party perks included adorable hand-crafted nametags; a warm and friendly studio atmosphere that was awash in natural light and bedecked with whimsical kids’ art; a giant mural Carrie set up on the floor to keep the guests busy and entertained in between art projects and cake set-up; lots of back-up supplies for those of us moms who can never remember to bring enough trash bags etc.

Each guest left with his or her own canvas painting and craft. Carrie was quick about clearing off the table and making room for cake time, so there was no meltdown-provoking downtime.  After a speedy cake clean-up, kids were hard at work on project No. 2, making animals out of modeling clay to pair with individual barns, silos and wishing wells Carrie made beforehand.

Host your child's birthday party at a playground/pavilion at Skidaway Island State Park

A plus of living in our area is you can host a children’s birthday party outdoors – even in fall. But the one challenge is finding a playground with access to bathrooms and a pavilion.

Here’s a fun suggestion for a playground children’s birthday party from SouthernMamas reader Katie Kelley: she’s having her child’s 3rd birthday party at Skidaway Island State Park.

The state park has a playground that’s suitable for smaller children; has several picnic tables available or you can rent one of the pavilions for $55 for the entire day. There are two pavilions right next to the playground with access to the bathrooms.

The indoor inflatable play & party entertainment center @ the Victory Drive Shopping Center, 2123 E. Victory Drive, no longer charges higher weekend rates!  Now, you pay the same price every day for kids: $5 plus tax for tots 2 and younger; $8 plus tax for the 3-and-up set.  

Coming this month and in December, more inflatables and less distracting arcade games. That means kids will spend more time jumping and playing than begging Mom and Dad for money to play the coin-operated arcade games. New inflatables include Dora and Diego and a farm, plus more slides.
