FREE Telfair Children’s Art Fair, Nov. 10, Savannah

Monday, November 5th, 2012

A popular family-friendly aspect of the annual Telfair Art Fair is the FREE Children’s Art fair, a free event taking place Saturday, November 10th from 10 am to 2 pm.

The Telfair Art Fair promotes the mission of developing awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the arts and serving as a dynamic cultural center connecting people of all ages and backgrounds. For more information, please visit http://www.telfair.org  .

Bastille Metal Works, the premier manufacturer of custom cast zinc and pewter furnishings in North America, will be sponsoring the Telfair Museums’ Children’s Art Fair in the Square. The Children’s Art Fair in the Square is a part of Telfair Museums’ 18th Annual Telfair Art Fair, which will take place November 10 and 11 in downtown Savannah and Telfair Square. This year’s Art Fair theme, Arte Al Fresco, is inspired by the museum’s upcoming exhibition Offering of the Angels: Paintings and Tapestries from the Uffizi Gallery. The exhibition will feature Italian masterworks from the Renaissance through the Baroque period, and will open on December 7.

The annual Children’s Art Fair is the perfect way to introduce children to Telfair Museums while providing a fun and educational outlet for creating art.  Activities  in the square will include hands-on art projects, such as face painting and Renaissance crafts, plus live performances by Portman’s Music Children’s Group, New Horizons, Savannah Arts Academy’s Skylite Jazz Band, and many more. This year, Telfair Museums will host the WCWM? (what can we make?) inside the education studios in the Jepson Center during the event, which will take place from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, November 10th.

The outdoor Art Fair will feature approximately 120 artists displaying and selling works in all mediums throughout the weekend, including painting, printmaking, drawing/pastel, digital media, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics/pottery, photography, furniture, glass, textiles/fiber, and mixed media. More than $10,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top artists in their respective fields.

Bastille Metal Works is sponsoring the event to show our dedication to local arts advocacy and education. Many local businesses and non-profits are volunteering their time and resources to get involved with this fun and educational cultural event.

For more information regarding the 18th Annual Telfair Art Fair or any of the Telfair’s education programs, classes or workshops, please visit the Telfair Museums Website.

‘Bunnicula’ Halloween musical will have your kids howling @ Savannah Children’s Theatre

Sunday, October 7th, 2012

Sure, “Bunnicula” – a Halloween musical at The Savannah Children’s Theatre   – has a vampire theme. But the production is as adorable and non-scary as grinning trick-or-treaters at your front door.

The theatre’s adult cast brings this popular children’s book to life at 10 AM Sat. Oct. 13.

In the production based on the children’s book by Deborah & James Howe, the Monroe family returns home from the movies with an abandoned rabbit who turns out to be Bunnicula, a fanged creature who makes nocturnal trips to the family fridge and scares the family pets.

While your kids will be fascinated with Bunnicula (operated by puppeteer Paul Gabbard), the real stars of the story are Chester the Cat (Maggie Lee Hart), a sassy, smart kitty, and the cynical, clumsy Harold the Dog (Brandon Kaufman). The comedy duo try to protect the Monroe family, who have been finding their veggies drained of their juice (a white tomato!)

The fun script has a nice blend of humor designed to appeal to varying ages. The physical antics of Chester and Harold as cat and dog entertain the younger children. Bunnicula is suitable for little children with only a few mildly scary moments.

Bunnicula

Based on the book by Deborah & James Howe
Adapted and Lyrics by Jon Klein
Music by Chris Jeffries
Directed by Kelie Miley

Bunnicula plays again at Savannah Children’s Theatre at 10 AM Sat. Oct. 13

Tickets are $10 for students/children, seniors and military: $12 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at www.savannahchildrenstheatre.org  or at the theatre box office the mornings of the shows. 2160 E. Victory Drive, Crossroads Shopping Center, next to the Piggly Wiggly. 912-238-9015.
