Youth who are blind or visually impaired are invited to the Savannah Cultural Arts Center for a guided tour of the center’s gallery exhibition, Beyond Sight. Beyond Sight is a multisensory exhibition that invites visitors to experience art on a deeper level through touching, hearing, and interacting with the artwork.
Following the tour, there will be an interactive workshop with one of the artists from the exhibition.
Siblings and friends of all abilities are welcome, space permitting.
This free event will take place at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center located at 201 Montgomery St.

In Discovering Art and Adventures in Art, young artists are invited to expand their creativity with a variety of fun art projects! Join us at the Jepson Center to develop your young person’s skills as a photographer. We believe that all young people are artists. With that in mind, we will approach photography as professionals do, studying the elements of art. The camp will meet outside as much as possible as we explore our environment in Telfair Square and other nearby locations. We will use DSLR digital cameras and learn about exposure, and a few historical methods involving film. Photography is fun and accessible to everyone.
Teachers and staff members from Richmond Hill Primary School, Richmond Hill Elementary School, Dr. George Washington Carver Elementary, McAllister Elementary School, Frances Meeks Elementary, Richmond Hill Middle School, and Richmond Hill High School are sharing a selection of their own artwork during the reception this Sat. Sept. 16 2023, 4-5 PM.
The Frances Meeks Elementary School Choir will also perform.

Gary Swindell Jr. is a passionate gospel performer who began his career as a child traveling with his parents throughout the South, performing in stage shows and musicals. He started performing in church in Savannah, Ga. as a child and has recorded and trained with a number of notable musicians. As a worship pastor and youth pastor, Gary recently published his first book, The Language of Praise, and enjoys inspiring and uplifting audiences.
Calvin J
Born and raised in Savannah, Ga., Calvin J has been writing music since the age of 14 and playing instruments since the age of 5. A self-taught pianist and drummer who also plays the alto saxophone, Calvin J brings a sound that is soulful, powerful and straight from the heart. His music is inspired by God and his family. His True Gospel “Life Music” embodies real-life scenarios that are based around God’s love and is featured on his newest recording “Road 2 Recovery.”
Antwan Smalls
Antwan Smalls is an eclectic singer, worship leader and musician with a deep passion for music and ministry. He has dedicated his life to praising and worshiping through his music and has served as the worship leader at Kingdom Life Christian Fellowship in Savannah, Ga. since the age of 15, Smalls has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Jonathan McReynolds, Tasha Cobbs, Erica Campbell, Jessica Reedy, Mali Music, Le’Andria Johnson and Joshua Rogers and offers an energetic worship vibe that effortlessly connects different cultures and generations.
The Gospel Brunch Celebration will feature a Southern-inspired buffet prepared by Plant Riverside District’s Executive Chef Eric Fullem. Menu highlights include Slow-Cooked BBQ Pork Ribs, Crispy Buttermilk Chicken and Waffles, Low Country Shrimp and Grits, Chicken Fried Pork Chop with Sawmill Gravy, Baked Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens with Smoked Turkey, Black Eyed Pea Salad, Southern Potato Salad, Fresh Berry Cobbler, Sweet Potato Pecan Tarts and Banana Pudding. This year for National Silent Movie Day on Fri. Sept. 29, the Lucas Theatre in Savannah will have a special 100th anniversary screening of the comedic masterpiece “SAFETY LAST!”
Featuring live musical accompaniment on the Lucas’ recently restored Mighty Wurlitzer organ, this is an event perfect to introduce families to the wonders of silent comedy.
