FREE breast health awareness seminar on 3D mammography technology, Oct. 21

SouthCoast Health Richmond Hill SouthCoast Health, the Savannah-based medical organization formerly known as SouthCoast Medical Group, will host a community breast health awareness seminar in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m.

FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

The free event, held at the practice’s Richmond Hill medical campus (89 Interchange Drive), will include a discussion on the latest advancements in 3D mammography technology. SouthCoast Health is one of the first practices in Georgia to offer this innovative service.

Family medicine specialist, Dr. Regina Dandy, obstetrician/gynecologist, Dr. Neil Odom, and family nurse practitioner, Nanci Ahearn, will be available to answer questions and provide health and wellness information for women of all ages during the seminar. Light refreshments will also be served.

3D mammography, also known as breast tomosynthesis, has become the new standard in breast cancer screenings. This technique involves the digital production of a 3D image of the breast tissue, which allows physicians to examine the area in fine detail without the confusion of overlapping tissue. Recent studies have shown that the use of this technology has led to a 41 percent increase in the detection of invasive breast cancers, a 29 percent increase in the detection of all breast cancers, and a 15 percent decrease in the number of false positive callbacks.
