Savannah schools: St. Andrew’s School partners with JCB on weather balloon eclipse project

Thursday, August 17th, 2017

Savannah schools St. Andrew's

Students of St. Andrew’s School (SAS) will send a weather balloon above the Earth’s atmosphere this Mon. Aug. 21, 2017, to capture images and data of the first total solar eclipse since June 1918. During the solar eclipse, the moon will completely cover the sun, resulting in one of the most unique celestial events of the past century.

For more than one year, 30 students ranging in grade from seven to 11, have designed, built and tested the device consisting of a weather balloon, Raspberry Pi software, digital cameras and a JCB LiveLink unit. The students’ goal is to capture photographs of the eclipse and ‘flight data’ such as pitch, roll, altitude, barometric pressure and any change in temperature that may occur during the solar eclipse.

“This partnership with St. Andrew’s provides JCB with an opportunity to contribute to the educational development of our local community,” states Chris Giorgianni, vice president of Product Support and Government & Defense for JCB North America. “Congratulations to Mr. Greenall and St. Andrew’s for inspiring this young team of future technologists as they work on a project that could shape their future educational and career decisions.”

Keep the musical routine alive for your child. Schedule a free introductory Kindermusik Savannah class

Sunday, August 13th, 2017

Toddlers Savannah Kindermusik Preschoolers

Going through some changes? Keep Kindermusik coming!

Whether it’s a first-time experience of going to school or having to say goodbye to an older sibling going to school, that change – as exciting as it may be – can also be unsettling for a child. Once-predictable routines are different. There’s a new schedule. Mom or Dad’s attention has to shift a bit, and maybe they’re feeling a little anxious about all the change too. Things just aren’t quite the same.

Finding something that’s familiar and comforting to keep constant in the midst of all of this change can go a long way towards helping a child successfully transition to a new routine.

For many of Kindermusik Savannah families, that “something familiar and comforting” is their Kindermusik classes… and the Kindermusik songs and activities they enjoy together in between classes throughout the week at home. Young children are actually relieved to have the comfort of a predictable activity with a Kindermusik class or teacher they adore, a setting that’s familiar, and all of their Kindermusik friends they enjoy seeing each week.

Visit kindermusikwith88keys.com today to schedule your free introductory class – and keep the musical routine alive for your child during the back-to-school transition!
