If you’re pregnant or have a child in kindergarten or younger, Pooler MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) would love to have you join this year to journey through motherhood together and grow in faith.
If you’re familiar with MOPS and want to register, drop by between 9:30-11:30AM on Wed. Aug. 18 2021. If you want to learn more about MOPS, Pooler MOPS will have two informational sessions starting at 9:45 AM and 10:30 AM. The group will also have information about MOPS kids.
No childcare will be provided at open house, but snacks and activities will be available for the kids, as well as coffee and food for the mamas!

Toddler Tuesday is a program for 1-4 year old children and their caregivers that focuses on one of Oatland’s animals, or a relevant nature theme. The program will meet at the picnic pavilion and will include: singing, fingerplay, a story, an encounter with one of our animals, and a take-home craft.
UPDATE: Cost for the program is $5 for children and $5 for adults.
Registration is required and there are a limited number of spaces so reserve early.
Registration is made online, but the program fees will be paid at the front booth on the day of, and not in advance, so please, if you know you won’t make your reservation, please call and cancel so organizers can open the space for someone on the waitlist.

As Bluffton’s only children’s sensory gym, we intend to spread community awareness and acceptance for those living with Autism in and around the Lowcountry. Savannah-Chatham County Public School System students return to the classroom for five day a week in-person instruction on Wed. August 4, 2021. Those who wish to attend school virtually must enroll in the Savannah-Chatham E-Learning Academy. Uniform requirements return this school year for all grades – PreK – 12.
Lowcountry Celebration Park – which opened in December 2020 – includes Adventure Playground for kids, a discovery trail, pavilion and lawn for festivals, exercise stations, Wi-Fi, restrooms.
The new visitor center @ Skidaway Island State Park includes floor-to-ceiling windows to showcase the maritime forest and marsh plus birding from a screened porch; a 20-feet high giant ground sloth skeleton, a replica of an ancient fossil found within the park in 1822; nature exhibits including turtles and snakes; a gift shop is filled with clothing, toys, books, camping supplies, jewelry and local foods. The visitor center also includes meeting space, classroom space and staff offices.

Mohawk Lake Trail
The 17-acre lake (pictured above) located at 1132 Mohawk Street now has a new walking/jogging trail and dog park that opened in July 2021.
A roughly three-mile section of the proposed six-mile public Truman Linear Park Trail runs between Lake Mayer and East DeRenne Avenue, parallel to the Truman Parkway and Casey Canal. Part of the trail includes a boardwalk (pictured below) that runs through a woodsy section of Magnolia Park neighborhood. Learn more here.

The South Carolina Department of Revenue said the S.C. 2021 Tax Free Weekend takes place Fri. Aug. 6 through Sun. Aug. 8.
The department says eligible items can be purchased online and in-store without paying the state’s 6% sales tax and any applicable local taxes during the tax holiday.
South Carolina’s Tax Free Weekend applies to the following items:
Clothing, Accessories, Footwear, School supplies, Computers, Computer equipment & software, Linens, bath towels, shower curtains.
Not exempt: Jewelry, cosmetics, eyewear, furniture and layaway purchases.
Georgia State lawmakers failed to pass legislation to provide for any tax holidays, according to the Georgia Department of Revenue, ending the state’s tax-free weekends.
Just a reminder of this great way for your teens to get in some volunteers hours and outside, too.
The Pegasus Riding Academy (Summer Adventure) sessions are looking for 14YO (and older) volunteers for week-long camps Mondays-Friday from 8:30AM-12:15PM. Peggi Noon is the contact for the camp. They are looking to fill four volunteer spots each week.
Final weekly camp sessions are camps this week (July 12) and next week (July 19).

Pegasus Riding Academy is a therapeutic riding program providing equine assisted activities for individuals with physical, mental or emotional disabilities. Summers at PRA include equestrian instruction, ground lessons with horse and equestrian themed art projects. Sessions are conducted by Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors.
