Matilda Jane Clothing launches tween line featuring Savannah in photos

Sunday, February 22nd, 2015

Matilda Jane 435 Tween Line Savannah All you Matilda Jane fans in Savannah will love this.

Matilda Jane’s new tween line – 435 – just for sizes 8-14 has a special Savannah twist: all of the model photos feature Savannah as the backdrop including the Jepson Center for the Arts & Forsyth Park. That means Savannah will be prominently featured nationally by Matilda Jane in print, social media & web photos.

Check out our SouthernMamas Facebook album here spotlighting Matilda Jane print, social media & web photos that feature Savannah as a backdrop.

With all of the charm and personality of the original MJC collection, 435 has a decidedly more grown up feel, but not too grown up.

Robyn Shirley is Matilda Jane Clothing’s Independent Trunk Keeper and Team Leader for the Southeast. The Savannah native (Robyn was born at Telfair Hospital) became interested in fashion marketing while growing up. She moved to New York & later earned a degree in fashion merchandising from the venerable Wood Tobé Coburn School. But being the “southern girl” that she is, her heart led her back to Hilton Head Island, SC.

Robyn Shirley is part of a network of independent representatives who get to know their customers personally. Having operated in South Carolina since 2008, she recently expanded her business to the Savannah area and now serves as a Team Leader as well as a Trunk Keeper for Matilda Jane Clothing.

In developing the new tween clothing line, Matilda Jane looked to the Trunk Keepers’ daughters for insight on fashion, fit and functionality. The tween girls formed the Matilda Jane tween council. Several members of the tween council were chosen to also model their creations at the 435 photo shoot, held this past December in Savannah.

“I am thrilled that our beautiful city was selected for the photo shoot and will be so prominently featured in the Matilda Jane national spring marketing campaign, including print, social media and web promotions,” said Shirley. “Savannah has a cool vibe that blends perfectly with history and tradition, much like the new 435 clothing line itself.”

Frank Callen Boys & GIrls Club Savannah

Want to help curb Savannah’s severe gang and crime-related violence problem?

Join WSAV morning anchor Dave Kartunen at an Oyster Roast to raise awareness of the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club in Savannah, Sunday, March 1 @ Coach’s Corner from 1-4p.

Learn more about the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club @ this community-recognition event.

For 98 years, the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Clubs have been in the forefront of youth development, maintaining a significant role in our community. The club provides children with developmental activities and services, encouragement and hope. The club’s mainstay programming is focused on academic success, sports and fitness, character and leadership training and healthy lifestyles. Though the club only charges members a mere $10 annual fee, it actually costs us $600+ per child, per year to provide those services. Each year, the club works with more than 1,000 children from disadvantaged economic, social and family circumstances and focus on a mission of enabling all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

The Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club depends on the generosity of  donors in the Savannah community in order to continue with their mission.

As you know, gang and crime related violence is on the rise here in Savannah. However, if the Frank Callen Boys & Girls Club has at-risk youth in programs, they are less likely to end up on the streets. Did you know that 33% of Savannah’s children live in poverty? As a result, children in poverty are 6 times more likely to drop out of high school and more likely to get involved with drugs, alcohol, gangs and crime. As a direct correlation, 80% of Georgia’s prison population is made up of high school dropouts. The Frank Callen Boys & Girls Clubs can change that; and, instead offer a bright future for our children.

The club’s programs work: 78% of the club’s kids are On Grade Level (the remaining 22% are those with learning disabilities); 93% are expected to complete high school; 88% intend/expect to go on to college; and, 37% of the club’s teens expect to achieve an advanced degree.
