An afternoon of clay exploration on the lawn of the Savannah Cultural Arts Center this Mon. April 3 2023! Artists and instructors from the SCAC and the Savannah community will have stations introducing you to projects and techniques in clay including handbuilding, surface design techniques, wheel, clay recycling, and Raku firing.
This FREE event is for all ages and all levels of clay experience to create, learn, and be inspired. This is an interactive event so be prepared to get your hands a little messy! Select projects can be left at the SCAC to be kiln fired and picked up at a later date.
Parents/guardians must accompany children ages 14 and younger at all times. Stop by any time between 1 and 4PM, no pre-registration required.

Horse camp @ Red Gate Farms in Savannah is a spectacular week-long event including daily horseback riding lessons teaching basic horse care and horsemanship, arts and crafts, recreational games/activities, daily picnic on the farm, trivia, and more.

This matinee of Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus is designed especially to create a comfortable environment for children with autism, sensory processing differences, or for families who are nervous about how their child(ren) might respond to live theatre. Keep reading for more information!
WHAT TO EXPECT: Low lights will remain on throughout the performance; reduced volume & sound effects; noise-cancelling headphones available to borrow; flexible seating options including pillows & wiggle seats; designated quiet area with soft beanbag seating; limited audience size; playbills including information about which parts of the play contain more intense feelings or movements so caregivers & children can prepare; opportunity to meet & interact with characters after the performance.
NOTE: All modifications being made were recommended by licensed & working BCaBA therapists. SCT performers & volunteers are not trained special educators, but are proud to be working with educators & families to make SCT a welcoming & inclusive space.

The Nephrology department at SouthCoast Health provides a multi-disciplinary approach to the prevention and management of diseases of the kidney. These three classes will present unique concepts, processes and methods for creating comic books.
All classes are half-day, open for students rising into grades 6-12 and will be held at Neighborhood Comics’ southside Savannah Clubhouse location (1116 E. Montgomery Cross Rd Savannah, GA 31406). All classes have a minimum size of 8 students. If that minimum is not reached, the course will be canceled and fees refunded.
Comic Art Careers

This one-week seminar focuses on the technical aspects of working in the comic book industry. Each day covers a different topic, including the four main principles of comic art (penciling, inking, coloring and lettering) as well as related topics such as anatomy, perspective and dynamic page layouts. Camp includes individualized student critiques or reviews from working comic artists. Basic art supplies (pencils, pens, paper etc) are provided at the studio.
Takeaways: Custom sketch book, 10 comic books, class notes, 12-page original comic featuring the student’s work.
Zines and mini-comics are an inexpensive, effective medium to convey short stories, political opinions, satire and fandom. This course focuses on the history of zines and zine making techniques on a budget. The class will examine self-published works and students will develop a minimum of 3 different zine concepts during the week, one of which will be created in multiples. Basic art supplies (pencils, pens, paper etc) are provided at the studio.
Takeaways: Custom sketch book, 10 comic books/zines, class notes, 3+ self-produced zines plus multiples.
Over the course of this one-week seminar, students will learn the basics of storytelling through sequential art. This includes development of concept, plot, pacing, conflict and resolution. Note: This class focuses on crafting stories, not art style or technical skills. Basic art supplies (pencils, pens, paper etc) are provided at the studio.

Thanks to Savannah Music Festival’s new Explorer Pass, young people in our community, along with their adult chaperones, will be able to attend SMF general admission performances for free.
To get free tickets through the new Explorer Pass program, SCCPSS students can report to the venue Box Office an hour prior to the listed showtime to show an active school-issued ID, report card or other communication from SCCPSS indicating that child is an enrolled student. The student and a parent, guardian, or chaperone can then enter the venue and choose their seats.

TheSavannah Music Festival (SMF) is gearing up for a stellar 2023 season, which runs from March 23 through April 8, 2023.
Tickets start at $31 and can be purchased online atsavannahmusicfestival.org, by phone at 912.525.5050 or in person at the Savannah Box Office, located at 216 E. Broughton St.
This year, the expansive outdoor venue Trustees’ Garden will accommodate nearly 2,500 patrons, featuring multiple artists on the main stage each day along with family activities and local food truck vendors in an open, field-like atmosphere.
On Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26, living legend and blues pioneer Buddy Guy will perform live on his “Damn Right Farewell” tour with special guests Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Eric Gales, King Solomon Hicks and Jontavious Willis. The Tedeschi Trucks Band will play the venue on Wednesday, March 29after a four-year hiatus from the festival, while New Orleans jam favorites Galactic teams up with funk maestro Cory Wong and the jazz, R&B and pop fusion of Nate Smith + KINFOLK for a special live performance on Sunday, April 2.
Called “one of the Southeast’s most creative cross-cultural musical events” by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Savannah Music Festival is known for its captivating multi-genre offerings and unique collaborations. Classical highlights include the Philip Dukes & Friends chamber music series, led by the world-renowned viola player and Savannah Music Festival Associate Artistic Director Dukes, a stop of the final tour of the celebrated Emerson String Quartet, Zurich Chamber Orchestra with Daniel Hope & Philip Dukes, Alexander Malofeev, and the Dover String Quartet with Joseph Conyers.
World music fuses with Americana when Malian master of the ngoni (precursor to the banjo) Bassekou Kouyate shares a bill with Jake Blount, scholar/performer of the Black string band tradition, appearing with Nic Gareiss and Laurel Premo. Jazz is always prominent at the Savannah Music Festival and this year acclaimed jazz violinist Regina Carter offers “Gone in a Phrase of Air,” an original music and multimedia performance that explores the effects of the urban renewal of the 1950s and 1960s, Terence Blanchard & E-Collective featuring the Turtle Island Quartet, Kenny Barron & Dave Holland with Johnathan Blake and many others.
Discovery is also a key part of the Savannah Music Festival as rising and renowned musicians perform at the event for the first time. Festival debuts in 2023 include Terence Blanchard, Patty Griffin, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Leo Kottke, Regina Carter, Sona Jobarteh, Natu Camara, Stanton Moore Trio, Los Lobos, The Alt with Oisin McAuley, Téada, S.G. Goodman, Harold Lopez-Nussa’s “Timba a la Americana” and more. In addition to excellence in musical presentations, Savannah Music Festival is also committed to supporting music education in the Savannah community, with programs inside and outside of the classroom. Musical Explorers, now in its ninth year, is a year-round education program for K-2 students which reaches over 10,000 children locally. SMF Jazz Academy is a free after-school program for students in grades 5-12, offering instruments, private lessons, public performances and more for in-depth, immersive learning experiences.

Grow the bond with your baby through music stimulation! Exposing your child to music from an early age ignites all areas of child development. Surrounded by sounds, instruments, and rhythms you will be helping your baby to develop social – emotional, motor, cognitive, language and literacy skills.
This class offers interactive bonding time with parent and child. Play with your child in song and dance, helping them achieve confidence in cognitive and motor skills. Using props and imagination in themed organized play connects you with your child while watching their independence develop.
Once a month, Telfair’s youngest patrons are invited to the Jepson Center for story time, a special tour, and an art activity. Strollers, crying babies, toddlers, and older siblings are all welcome here.
