2011 Holly Days Bazaar at St. John’s Church, Savannah

St. John’s Church Holly Days Bazaar is one of the city’s oldest church bazaars. The funds raised by the bazaar are used to support the outreach and mission goals of the St. John’s Episcopal Churchwomen.

Halloween Candy Buy-Back Program at Simply Children’s Dentistry, Savannah

Kids can get cash, prevent cavities & support our troops at Simply Children’s Dentistry’s Candy Buy-Back Program in Savannah.

In an effort to promote healthy teeth and raise a cavity-free generation, Dr. Kamiti Harden at Simply Children’s Dentistry holds this Halloween candy buy-back program each year.

Staff will weigh the candy & pay your child $1 per pound of candy. In addition, each child will receive a new toothbrush. All the candy will be mailed overseas to the troops.

Tybee Island will have Halloween 2011 on Saturday Oct 29

Tybee Island’s Lewis Avenue – a popular Halloween destination known as Trick-or-Treat Street – will have Halloween on Sat. Oct. 29 2011 because the traditional date of Oct. 31 falls on a Monday this year.

Residents of Lewis Avenue asked the Tybee City Council for the change and it was granted. The street attracts more than 2,000 people every October.

Residents decorate their yards with Halloween decor and the city buys at least $1,000 worth of candy to make sure homeowners don’t run out.

Famous Catfish Pond – Watch the catfish have their breakfast, lunch, & dinner. Some are estimated to weigh at least 10 lbs. or more. Some days they may eat 15 – 20 times, we currently have them on a diet, we are trying to avoid having WHALES by the end of October.

Farmer Brown’s Playground – Come and jump on the GIANT Crop Hopper (a really big jumping air pillow), dig in the Sand Pile, Fly down the Spyder Slyder, and have lots of good ole farmin fun!!!

10 –Acre Cornfield Maze – “We Love March Of Dimes” we have a tiny tot entrance that can be walked in appox. 15 minutes for the young and the young at heart.

General Information

Picnic Area – We have tents with picnic tables available for your use. You are welcome to either bring your own food or eat with us. The Calf-A concession stand will be grilling hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches. We will also have french fries, popcorn, candy and lots of other delicious treats along with ice cold Coca-Cola products.

The job is a part time sales & customer relationship manager at a new Savannah technology startup that was started by a local mother-of-two. It’s a contract position with flexible hours.

The candidate should be a self-motivated individual with professional experience to develop and maintain relationships with clients for a web based iPhone/Android app product. Music and Me, The Sandbox Interactive Children’s Museum, Hilton Head Is.

Come make an interactive song book which includes a sing-along CD.

Participants will learn favorite children songs through singing, dancing, playing instruments and acting.  In this fun 60 minute session we will create “song cards” or a story board you can make and take home to help you remember each song.  “The best part is when we’re done, a recording of our sing-along will be made available to participants,”
say Dr. Ondishko.  “You can use the music tracks at home for family fun karaoke! Making music together is a great way to spend memorable time with someone you love.”

Denise (Dede) Ondishko, Ph.D. will lead these workshops for you and your child. Dr. O. (as she is called by the children) is a composer, pianist and school music teacher living here on Hilton Head Island.  With over 21 years of experience working with young musicians, she is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early Childhood Music.  She loves to develop the innate musicianship in young children and shares her love of music with all. Children and adults will enjoy learning music with her.

There is an additional $5 charge for Music and Me.  Join us each Wednesday and have fun singing, dancing and making music. Museum general admission is $6 per person.

An Interactive Children’s Museum is hosting Food Art: Creative Nutrition for Kids every Tuesday through November 15, 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Food Art program provides a snack, recipes, and demonstrations and illustrations of healthy fun foods for kids. The topic and craft will vary each week. Community Nutritionists will also be participating in this program. Parents and children will learn how to make fun healthy snacks and foods for kids and the entire family.

This Program is included in the museum general admission fee of $6 per person.

The Sandbox, An Interactive Children’s Museum, is hosting Pajama Night on Tuesday, September 20, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at The Sandbox.

Come in your pajamas to listen to Scott Strom from the Hilton Head Library read a series of bedtime books. Then make a craft project that is related to one of the stories. Following the reading and craft project, families can stay and play at the museum and enjoy lemonade and cookies.

The Pajama Night programs will be held the third Tuesday of each month.

Public invited to Coastal Empire Montessori Charter School Fall Festival, Savannah

Coastal Empire Montessori Charter School Parent-Teacher Organization invites the public to the school’s fall celebration.

Come celebrate the season with Minute-to-Win-It-type games played for prizes, face painting, improvisation demonstrations from Savannah Children’s Theater, bounce houses, silent auction, concessions and much more.

When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011
Admission: $5 per carload; additional tickets required for games and concessions. $15 wristbands for unlimited rides.

Besides a day of food and fun, the surrounding community will have an opportunity to learn about the school and the Montessori curriculum. Savannah Women’s Infertility Support Group Meeting

2nd Annual Go Green 5K Trail Run/Walk

Visiting tall ship ‘Danmark’ open for public tours Sept. 14-17

The majestic training ship DANMARK, considered Denmark’s nautical ambassador, will be docked at River Street in downtown Savannah & open for public tours until Sept. 17

DANMARK sails as the first foreign ship behind the EAGLE in official Tall Ship Parades. This year DANMARK is going to visit two ports at the US East Coast, Savannah, September 13-17 and Philadelphia, September 23-27. Afterwards the ship will cross The Northern Atlantic and return back to Denmark.

During the vessel’s stay in Savannah there will be open ship to the public on:

The Ship
Built in 1933, the DANMARK is a steel-hulled, three-masted fully-rigged ship. It has served as training vessel for young people seeking careers at sea. The ship is property of the Kingdom of Denmark and is capable of sailing around the world. The ship has 26 sails and 219 ropes. A main engine is used in low wind conditions.
