JULY 4: Savannah’s July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza on River Street hosted by the Riverfront Association . Music, food, live shows, contests, and more. FREE Head to Rousakis Plaza about 5 p.m., bring a blanket and some snacks, fireworks beginning around 9:15 p.m.

JULY 4: Fort Pulaski Independance Day Celebration featuring children’s activities. Musket firing demos, scheduled at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., will be followed by a muster or Civil War inspection. At 1 p.m., children of all ages will be able to make their own “Flat Civil War Soldier”. The park’s Independence Day activities will also include a presentation about the game of baseball during the Civil War era. Fort Pulaski National Monument, U.S. Hwy. 80, 15 miles east of Savannah. JULY 4: Coastal Heritage Society museums, Savannah: A reading of the Declaration of Independence and learn about the 1779 Battle of Savannah. Take a Battle of Savannah tour with a Revolutionary War soldier and see the exhibit on the battle in the Savannah History Museum, tour the battlefield and experience a musket demonstration. At the Georgia State Railroad Museum, take a train tour with a historic steam locomotive, experience operating a hand car, tour Pullman rail cars and some icons of the railroad (boxcars and caboose). Special children’s activities will be conducted throughout the day. You can also visit Old Fort Jackson and step into the shoes of those soldiers that were stationed at Georgia’s oldest brick fort during the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and the Civil War. Experience what life was like for those soldiers: try on period uniforms, participate in an artillery crew, and watch cannon and musket demonstrations. Throughout the day there will be a variety of children’s activities as well as blacksmith demonstrations. More info here.

The 5K (3.1 miles) Hilton Head Firecracker 5000 course starts and finishes behind the Mall at Shelter Cove at Shelter Cove Community Park and takes participants through the fast and flat roads around Shelter Cove Harbour. The festive post-race celebration features music, fresh fruit, ice cold refreshments, door prizes and more.

Show off your red, white and blue spirit by decorating your bicycle, wagon, dog, or kids for a fun parade around Harbour Town. Meet at the parking lot adjacent to the Harbour Town Lighthouse at 8:30am to register and pick up decorating supplies. Parade lineup begins promptly at 9:30am, and entries will be judged on patriotism. Supplies available to first 100 registered. Following the parade, join us for a bounce house, face painting, spray tattoos and much more.
