The Savannah Arts Academy’s Theatre Department presents “A Festival of One Acts” – a series of 16 student directed, performed and produced one act plays on Wednesdays, January 16 & 23, 2013 at 7:00 PM in the Black Box Theater at 500 Washington Avenue.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens and can be purchased online at www.seatyourself.biz/saa or at the door. Seating is limited so you are encouraged to get your tickets soon.

Students from all of the theatre classes will direct, perform, and produce 16 plays over 2 nights. Eleven of these plays were written by the students. Over 85 students will be involved in these performances.

They will perform the following plays: on January 16th
The Tooth Hurts, Slightly Left of Paradise, Writer’s Left, The Pick-up, Cuttin’ Line, Clueless, Closure, The Boogieman, Love Letters and Carnal Instinct , on January 23: Sales and Wails, Blackout, Bail, Simulation Number Three, Insanity, Ybergeschnappt.

Wimpy Kid Comes to the Savannah Book Festival

Live Oak Public Libraries is excited to partner with The 2013 Savannah Book Festival to present a special appearance by Jeff Kinney, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series author and cartoonist! Kinney has published 85 million “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” books, which have been printed in more than 44 countries.

The New River Auto Mall Hilton Head Snow Day is on Sat. Jan. 26 from 11 am – 4 pm at Shelter Cove Community Park. The annual Bring One for the Chipper Christmas tree recycling event will be held Saturday, Jan. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents who bring a tree to recycle will receive free plant seeds while supplies last.

The free service is available at the following locations:
• Home Depot, 11180 Abercorn
• Home Depot, 190 Pooler Parkway
• Home Depot, 1901 Victory Drive
• Dean Forest Landfill, 1325 Dean Forest Rd.
• Bacon Park Landfill, Shorty Cooper Rd.

Christmas tree mulch will be used by the City for parks and neighborhood beautification projects throughout Savannah. The program has been a holiday tradition in Georgia for 20 years and is the largest tree recycling program in the nation. You can register for the Polar Plunge or the Gang of Goofs contest in person at the Tybrisa Roundabout on Saturday, December 29, Sunday, December 30 and Monday, December 31st from 12pm – 3pm or on Tuesday, January 1 from 9am – 11:30am at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion (deadline to register for the Gang of Goofs contest on January 1st is 10:30am).
