Savannah Children’s Museum Exploration Station

A SouthernMamas.com reader & her family were so impressed with the new Savannah Children’s Museum EXPLORATION STATION on the grand opening last Saturday that they are going back again this week!

We can’t wait to check it out.

The Exploration Station is an outdoor venue and water and sunscreen are strongly encouraged.

Exploration Station is a 1 acre, two level, outdoor exhibit area built in the ruins of a Central of Georgia building. Exploration Station’s goals are to connect children with nature, encourage learning through outdoor play emphasizing the importance of daily activity for a healthy lifestyle, and planting the seeds for preservation of historic buildings.

Wiggle Worms: 30min classes ages walking – 2yrs
This “Parent and Me class” is designed to incorporate the earliest aspects of physical fitness, enhance fine and gross motor skills, body awareness, and muscle coordination while promoting physical, mental and social development. Music, basic gymnastics movements, and games create a fun and healthy atmosphere for you and your child.

Grasshoppers: 45 min classes ages 2-3yrs
This toddler class is open to children who enjoy having parents close by and are ready to learn to follow instructions from another adult. We ask parent/guardian to assist until their child is ready to participate on their own. This class continues to enhance your child’s fine and gross motor skills, social skills, strength and coordination through the activities and obstacle courses that emphasize eye-hand coordination, climbing, hanging, jumping, running, and rolling in a fun and safe environment.

Bumble Bees : 60 min classes ages 3-4yrs
This class continues to enhance and challenge your child’s physical, social and cognitive development. Basic tumbling and gymnastics skills, ball handling skills and preschool concepts are taught. Group activities, teamwork, and fun theme-based curriculum keep your child engaged and excited to participate.

Kids’ Summer Events at The Sandbox Interactive Children’s Museum, Hilton Head Is.

The Sandbox – An Interactive Children’s Museum , Hilton Head Is., kicks off summer fun programs.

Summer programs include Pottery classes, Cupcake Decorating, Crafty Kids, Summer Fun Craft Activity, Interactive Art Classes led by local artist Veronica Martini, Parents night Out, Imagination Hour, and Coastal Critters by Coastal Discovery Museum.

The Crafty Kids Program includes sand art, tie dye shirts, and oyster shell art. The Interactive art classes include Picture Frame Art, Sand-Hand Mosaic, and a Go Green Gator made from repurposed products.

The Sandbox is an interactive children’s museum with region related exhibits, activities and programs for children’s ages 9 years and under. There’s a toddler area perfect for the little ones who are crawling and sitting up to 3. The museum hours are Monday-Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM.

New JumpBunch youth fitness sessions start in April in Richmond Hill & Berwick

Jumpbunch is an International Sports and Fitness program serving children & families throughout the US and India. JumpBunch of Greater Savannah is currently offering classes in Savannah and Richmond Hill at Children’s Village, PALS, Early Learning, Maggies Morning School, Richmond Hill Montessori, Southern Montessori & many more locations.

JumpBunch of Greater Savannah is has new sessions starting soon in Berwick & Richmond Hill.

Berwick
JumpBunch is offering a 8 week session beginning on April 10- May 29. The class offered will be Tuesday morning at 9:30 am at Coastal Cathedral, 275 Berwick Blvd. in Berwick. Cost for the 8 weeks: $70

Richmond Hill

JumpBunch is offering a 8 week session beginning on April 16- June 4th. The class offered will be Monday morning at 9:30 am at New Life Worship, 16252 Hwy 144 E in Richmond Hill, GA.  Cost for the 8 weeks: $70

JumpBunch Details

Each week, JumpBunch offers a cardio workout, muscle resistance training and introduces a new sport activity in a fun, hands-on, non-competitive environment. At this stage, the goal is to build confidence and coordination.

Some of the fun sports JumpBunch offers are: Lacrosse, Hockey, Football, Soccer, Bowling, Kickball, Cheerleading and parachute games and best of all equipment for each class will be available for each child. No equipment to buy!!

JumpBunch offers a Mommy and Me class, Toddler and Preschool curriculum.

Telfair museums Toddler Third Thursday April 19, “ART PREPAREDNESS”

Make plans to take your child to Telfair museums Toddler Third Thursday April 19. This month’s theme is “ART PREPAREDNESS.”

Designed especially for pre-schoolers and their adult companions, Toddler 3rd Thursday allows toddlers to explore artwork from Telfair exhibits and complete a tour-related art project.

On Thursday April 19, toddlers and their parents will tour the Juliette Gordon low exhibit at the Telfair Academy and create their own sketchbooks and traveling water color kits.

The members of MusicAlive! bring stories to life through string and wind instruments playing classical music. Children are also invited to get some hands-on experience in the instrument “petting zoo.” Live Oak Public Libraries presents this special Project 440 program through a partnership with the Curtis Institute of Music and the Savannah Music Festival.

Time to register for youth Spring 2012 soccer with Savannah Celtic.

Bigger Micro Program
The Wilmington Islands program is booming. Last season, Savannah Celtic had 5 U6 teams and 5 U8 teams on the island. This year, both programs are at 6 and 6 and the calls are POURING in every day for them.  Savannah Celtic even added a U10 team that practices on the island.

Schedule Change
 This season, EVERYONE (including Bloomingdale) will come to Savannah for the final weekend of games, May 19 & a big awards ceremony. An added perk is that your teams will get to play a team they didn’t play during the rest of the season.

Start Date
Games will start March 24, giving everyone plenty of time to practice.

Bloomingdale Addition
There’s a new Bloomingdale Micro program this season, headed by Jeff Storey-Pitts with 5 teams in U6 and 5 at U8. Jeff is full time with Celtic and is a Nationally Licensed Coach.

New Island Director
Ciara Thomas will be running the program on the islands this season.  She is the GK for the SCAD women’s soccer team and has already talked several of her teammates into helping her out.

Here’s a timeline of this coming SPRING Season.

Feb. 3 to March 1
Registrations will remain open until the start of March, however teams will already be formed and practicing. If you want your child on a specific team or you want them to get started with everyone else, Savannah Celtic suggests registering in the next week.

March 24
Games are slated to begin. There will be NO GAMES on St. Patricks Day, March 17th.

You’re invited: Preschool Caterpillar Youth Workshop, Savannah

This Preschool Caterpillar Youth Workshop at Studio S.P.A.C.E in Savannah sounds adorable!

Studio S.P.A.C.E. invites preschoolers ages 4 – 6 to experience the Youth Workshop, Preschool Caterpillar. This educational workshop is Sat. Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Cultural Affairs Department at 9 W. Henry St.

Preschool Caterpillar is inspired by the popular children’s book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle. For only $10, preschoolers will create a 3D caterpillar and butterfly utilizing a variety of mediums. Instructor Layla Mayville will instruct students about the lifecycle of a caterpillar to a butterfly.

“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” follows a caterpillar as it eats its way through a wide assortment of food before pupating and emerging as a butterfly. The book also features educational themes that correspond with counting, metamorphosis, and art. It has sold over 30 million copies worldwide and has been described as one of the greatest childhood classics of all time.
