Author & artist Mo Willems invites YOU into his studio every day for his LUNCH DOODLE. Willems is author & artist of such favorites as Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Knuffle Bunny, and all the adventures of Elephant and Piggie.

Learners worldwide can draw, doodle and explore new ways of writing by visiting Mo’s studio virtually once a day for the next few weeks. Grab some paper and pencils, pens, or crayons and join Mo to explore ways of writing and making together. If you post your art to social media, be sure to hashtag it with #MoLunchDoodles!

New weekday free online kids’ programs @ Children’s Museum of Atlanta & Riverbanks Zoo

free online kids programs Savannah Children’s Museum of Atlanta started a new FREE virtual program called #CMAatHome.

Each weekday at 11AM, the Museum will provide an interactive activity, vocabulary list, song list or book recommendation to help parents and kids stay engaged with education. Additional programming is expected to launch in the coming days, including live singing and story time with the Imaginators, Q&A sessions with Professor Labcoat and more.

Children’s Museum of Atlanta is temporarily closed but will continue to serve as a beacon of learning through the power of play, with activities continuing on digital platforms until the Museum is able to resume its regular onsite programming schedule.

Summer School
A five-week summer school program for students who need to strengthen academic skills. This is an
excellent opportunity to refresh skills and prepare for the new school year. Small classes focus on
Reading, Writing, English and Mathematics. Students will be assigned modified homework assignments

Watch a wild Savannah osprey pair on The Landings Bird Cam, Skidaway Is.

Online viewing of the bird nest cam at The Landings can provide live entertainment for those self-quarantined & looking to escape Disney Plus.

These cameras follow ospreys nesting beside the Palmetto golf course at The Landings on Skidaway Island in Savannah.

This year, the ospreys are using a nest built by cam operators and volunteers in fall 2019, after the old nest tree, which died, had to be cut down.

The female laid an egg on March 8 2020 and another March 11 2020. Update: As of April 21, all three eggs have hatched.

Summer Camps Coastal Heritage Society Savannah 2020

Registration is now open for Coastal Heritage Society’s Summer Camps 2020, the popular Savannah summer programs inspired by learning through play.

Each week-long camp: “STEAM Studio Camp,” “Planes, Trains and Automobiles Camp,” “Jr. Chef Camp” and “Jr. Engineer Train Camp” will take place in June and July. Campers will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of hands-on sessions focused on the educational themes we explore in-depth at our museums.

The camps will be held at Savannah History Museum, 303 Martin Luther King Blvd. Savannah, GA 31401.

The registration for these camps is $180 per child, aside from “Jr. Chef Camp,” which is $200 per child. A discounted rate of $10 off of each camp registration is offered for Coastal Heritage Society members. Find info on becoming a member here.

“Jr. Engineer Train Camp”
Provides a unique experience that can only be found at Georgia State Railroad Museum. Campers will work alongside engineers, learn about steam and diesel-powered locomotives and engage in many interactive learning experiences. This camp is available for ages 4 to 6 and will be June 1-5 2020. Register online here 

“STEAM Studio Camp”
Offers campers a chance to participate in exciting activities that combine Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math. Campers will experiment with various materials and tools to find creative solutions for the challenges that are presented to them each day. This camp is available for ages 4 to 6 and 7 to 10 and will be June 8-12 and June 15-19 2020. Register online here 

“Planes, Trains and Automobiles Camp”
Offers campers a chance to participate in interactive experiences that explore a variety of transportation modes. Campers will learn about steam and diesel-powered locomotives, rocketry, planes, and our 1920’s Depot Hacks. From more than 7,000 works in the museum’s permanent collection, Telfair presents ‘Collecting Impressionism,’ including some of the finest paintings in the United States. Children and families will be invited to create their own miniature Impressionist works and go on a scavenger hunt throughout the exhibition. Local artists will be on hand to lead plein air painting demonstrations in front of the museum, and local musicians will provide a program of Impressionist music in the auditorium at 2pm.

Night at the Museum Coastal Heritage Society Savannah History Museum

Get tickets now for Coastal Heritage Society’s 2020 “Night at the Museum” event on Sat. Jan. 25 2020 @ Savannah History Museum, 303 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The annual event takes visitors through night guard training and then on a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum.

Guests will be able to interact with historic characters from Savannah History Museum’s exhibits as they appear to magically come to life. This year’s characters include: Casimir Pulaski, Alida Harper-Fowlkes, Susie King Taylor, and many more!

This popular annual event consists of a 90-minute interactive program in the museum. Guests will have the option to choose from two time slots for the program: 5-6:30PM or 6:30-8PM. Event participants will also have two opportunities to view the film “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” at 3 pm and 8 pm. The 98-minute film screening is optional and seating is first come, first served.

Tickets are $12 per person for guests ages 18 months and older. CHS members will receive a discounted ticket rate of $10. Pre-registration for the event is required and tickets for each time slot can be purchased online here.

Telfair Museums continues to lead the conversation in art and technology with its 13th installment of the PULSE Art + Technology Festival.

The 2020 festival will take place from January 23-26 at Telfair’s Jepson Center.

PULSE 2020 showcases artists and creatives who demonstrate how technology can either work against us or help us solve global problems.

The multi-day event invites individuals of all ages to enjoy exciting exhibitions, screenings, lectures, workshops, and educational events. The exhibition Machines of Futility features interactive works that question technology’s usefulness, while installations in the museum’s TechSpace titled Second Nature connect virtual and augmented reality, and games with the natural world.

The festival kicks off on Wed. Jan. 22 at 6PM with a panel moderated by PULSE Curator Harry Delorme and visual artists Neil Mendoza, Alicia Eggert and R. Luke Dubois. Three noted visiting artists will discuss their work and how art can spur dialogue and self-reflection on our culture’s dependence on technology.

Designing the Future: A Climate for Change, an immersive evening presented by W Projects @ Jepson Center

This immersive evening focuses on technology helping our world face the results of climate change. The experience will include a short film screening, expert speakers from Perkins and Will, Gulfstream Aerospace, and the Georgia Institute of Technology. An interactive reception will feature virtual reality stations, interactive art projects, and hands on experiences.

There’s something for the whole family at this month’s Chatham County Free Family Day featuring our annual PULSE Art + Technology Festival at the Jepson Center. Family Days are fun, educational, and FREE for Chatham County residents! We invite you to participate in hands-on art projects, gallery exploration, and demonstrations of cool technology by local artists and students. Create DIY masterpieces or explore the interactive ArtZeum and our TechSpace featuring technology-based artworks. Drop in for a little while or stay for the entire afternoon. It’s all free and always fun.

Unleash your creativity and join Savannah’s Jepson Center in their studios every day for artmaking projects for all ages!

Work at your own pace and comfort level through an array of creative mediums such as watercolors, collage, calligraphy, origami, coloring books (for adults, too!), and much more. Each month features a special project designed to connect with a specific exhibition at the museum. A studio assistant is always on hand to answer questions and assist guests. Drop-In Studio is open year round and perfect for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Each month, the Jepson Center offers fun new art projects @ the daily Drop-In Studio to relate back to the exhibitions on view in the museum.

December theme is watercolor! The projects will relate to the William Kawamee-Poh exhibit and the Summons the Sea exhibit currently on view at the Jepson Center.
