A new 10-week music & movement session for young children starts Thurs. April 20 in Savannah.

Do-Re-We is an early childhood music education program that incorporates the philosophy of Zoltan Kodály with early childhood learning theory and methodology.

Each week, you and your child will spend 30 minutes engaging in songs, bounces, games, and music-making classes tailored to her development level. While we giggle, dance, and sing, your baby will be developing early skills vital to healthy brain development.

Your instructor, Rebecca Flaherty, is a Classically-trained musician with a master’s degree in voice performance, and Kodály I certification.

3D Wooden Puzzles and Savannah Crayons

Saturday mornings are for making! This fun and simple camp will have you making wooden puzzle cubes and pouring your own Savannah inspired crayons. Come by for a 2-hour workshop on molding your own crayons and make your very own wooden puzzle cube! This camp is great for 7-10 year olds, but we welcome all ages! Every paid registration will leave with one wooden puzzle cube and 4-5 Savannah inspired molded crayons. Learn more here.

I’m a Maker Summer Camp – Woodturning

Inspired by beyblades, you’ll learn the traditional craft of woodturning to make wooden tops and drag racers! This camp is designed for 11 – 14 year olds with an interest in learning about woodturning. The young Makers who attend will create two spinning tops, one carved by hand on a wood lathe and another utilizing state-of- the-art 3D modeling and 3D printing technology.

What better way to start off the summer break than with learning about 3D design, 3D scanning, and 3D printing! This 4-day camp is designed for 7-10 year olds and will have every young maker make a bust of themselves to take home. The Coastal Empire STEAM Challenge 

A fast paced and exciting camp for experienced makers to push their skills to the next level. After learning the design process students will work in teams to solve a real problem facing the world today. Students will use tools throughout the shop to build their prototypes and compete for prizes

Savannah schools St. Andrew's St. Andrew’s School is Savannah is hosting a student art reception on Friday, March 24 from 6:30 until 8PM at Oglethorpe Gallery, 406 East Oglethorpe Ave.

The show features six senior International Baccalaureate (IB) visual art students.

The IB visual arts curriculum encourages students to challenge their own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries. As they work on their portfolios, these students are asked to explore the arts from a local, regional, national and international perspective. The final piece of the IB art course is to select and present works for exhibition, explaining the various ways the works are connected.

The movie is presented by Alison Harris, nominated for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s 2017 Woman of the Year. Harris is joining LLS on their mission to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients. Her goal is to raise $100,000 in 10 weeks to help cure blood cancers. She’s dedicating her campaign in memory of her Grandmother, Marion Quinn, who died of Leukemia March 22, 1975, just 2 weeks before Harris’ parent’s wedding.

This movie is being shown by donation only for Alison Harris’ LLS Woman of the Year campaign.

The story of a dog named Buck who is kidnapped from his California home and sold into captivity as a sled dog in Alaska. In order to survive this brutal frontier, Buck must leave behind his civilized ways and rely on instinct alone. Will Buck continue to serve his beloved master Thornton or will he leave Man’s world behind and answer the call of the wild?

Watch as talented SCAD artists bring a splash of color to scenic Forsyth Park at the 36th annual Sidewalk Arts Festival. SCAD students, alumni and high school students create colorful chalk masterpieces and compete for coveted prizes in this tradition that’s nearly as old as the university itself.

High school students are encouraged to put their artistic skills to the test and experience the creative SCAD environment. Registering in advance is required to compete for Ex Libris gift cards. Review contest guidelines and start sketching out your ideas in advance.

Blacksmith demos Irons in Fire Georgia Railroad Museum

You are invited to attend an artisan blacksmithing demonstration @ Georgia State Railroad Museum 10AM-4PM Sat. Feb. 25.

Blacksmiths from across the Southeast will be showcasing their craft and fabricating items for purchase in the blacksmith shop.

The museum has an 1850s railroad Blacksmith Shop on site at Georgia State Railroad Museum to highlight this element of industrial history.

The expert metalsmith artists will be sharing a variety of designs using just the Old World tools of fire, anvil and hammer to create their masterpieces.

Please note that while many of the items will be available for purchase, most sales are cash only.

The day-long event is included in the cost of general admission at Georgia State Railroad Museum, $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 2 to 12 years of age. This event is free for Coastal Heritage Society members.

In addition to experiencing “Irons in the Fire,” the entire Georgia State Railroad Museum site will be open for exploration, so visitors are encouraged to walk through the historic railcars, experience the handcar and go on a guided site tour by train.

Savannah’s 7th Annual A-Town Get Down will take place March 25, noon-12AM at its new location on Indian Street. The area, defined by Indian Street (between Fahm Street and the Talmadge Bridge) is well known as both a creative hub and emerging business community.

A-Town Get Down Art & Music Festival Savannah 2017 The family-friendly event is free from noon to 5PM and ticketed from 5PM to midnight.

This year’s all-day festival will feature over 25 live bands and visual artists each representing diverse music genres and artistic styles. Performers include Cracker, Bobby Rush, Col. Bruce Hampton, Snarky Puppy Horns, Low Country Voices, Old Salt Union, Walter Parks, Savannah Children’s Choir, AJ Ghent, Marques & The Marvelous Miracles, Waits & Co, Complicated Animals, Annalise Curtin, The Billy Jonas Band (Especially Family Oriented), and the Live Art of Jose Ray, Will Penny, SCAD Ceramics, Digital Art, Loop It Up Savannah and much more.

Thanks to the festival’s new location, guests can expect larger stages and more live music and live art installations than ever before over the 12-hour period. A-Town is also partnering with Loop It Up Savannah again this year to connect students from Title I school districts to free access to interactive art and music projects.

The festival was created in honor of art student and musician, Alex “A-Town” Townsend, who passed away in 2010. The all-day festival’s mission is to increase access to music and art to citizens of the region. From the hours of 12pm – 5pm, the festival is free and open to everyone for family-friendly art and music events. From 5pm – midnight, the festival becomes a ticketed event for the headliner performers and art events.

Figured out your Spring Break childcare yet?

Registration is now open for a popular, full-day art camp for ages 5-12 @ the City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs studio during the Chatham County School Spring Break March 20-24 2017.

Children 5 years of age must currently be enrolled in kindergarten.

Students participate in five art classes a day with certified art instructors and/or professional artists.  The classes may include ceramics, mixed media, puppetry, jewelry, fused glass, improv, music, or dance. All classes are taught by professional artists and art teachers. Friday afternoons parents are invited to view their children’s works in a gallery exhibition or watch a performing arts presentation.

This four-day camp is designed to help upper-elementary and middle school students improve their drawing skills and begin the process of developing a portfolio. Students will focus on measurement, proportion, perspective, and use of value to create volume and space. The camp will also include practice portraiture and sketching from clothed models. The Drawing Portfolio Builder Camp is a great class for students to learn and advance the skills necessary for developing art portfolios.

This intensive, weeklong program focuses on black-and-white and digital photography, as well as the basic functions of 35mm manual cameras. While instructors emphasize the advancements of digital media and Adobe Photoshop, they will also cover conventional methods of film photography, including pinhole cameras, to supplement the experience. The camp features student use of both manual and digital cameras. This camp will utilize the William Wegman: Improved Photography exhibition as inspiration for on-location shoots in the historic district. The program will culminate with a reception and exhibition of the participants’ work in the Jepson Center.

This comprehensive STEAM Camp gives young people the opportunity to explore the artistic potential of technology. In this weeklong camp, students will learn to use a variety of technologies and methods to create and express themselves. Students will explore 3D printing, create images with Adobe Photoshop, and solder their own electronic-noise toys. Participants will also learn basic computer programming with Arduino microcontrollers. The program culminates with a reception and exhibition of the participants’ work in the Jepson Center.

Each day, this camp will feature a different local artist providing a unique lesson based on his or her medium. Lunch in Telfair Square (weather permitting), breaks and games in ArtZeum, and special tours of the galleries are all included. Students will learn to give constructive criticism on their own and their peers’ artwork. The program culminates with a student art exhibition and a reception in the Jepson Center.
