If your plan is to have your child read at least one book by all the featured authors at the 2012 Savannah Children’s Book Festival in November, then we’ve got you’ve covered. Check out the list of authors attending the popular free festival below. The Savannah Children’s Book Festival is set for Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Forsyth Park in Savannah.

The festival is presented by Live Oak Public Libraries and the City of Savannah. The eighth annual festival celebrates the joy of reading, the power of the written word and the magic of storytelling with children’s book authors and illustrators from around the country. The festival will also include more than 60 Coastal Authors, arts and crafts, an International Tent, a variety of food and entertainment, a Book Walk and graphic novel/comics area.

The free festival will also include more than 60 Coastal Authors, arts and crafts, costumed characters, a graphic/comics area, and a variety of food and entertainment. The Book Walk encourages families to enjoy a story from page to page throughout the park and features the bestselling “How Rocket Learned to Read” led by the book’s author, Tad Hills. Be sure to check out Tad Hills’ Web site to learn more about not only his books but also the cool, creative Halloween costumes he’s crafted over the years for his own kids.

The Savannah Children’s Theatre will bring their young actors to the festival for performances throughout the day.

J’miah Nabawi will again host the festival’s International Tent, which will feature a variety of multicultural musical performances and storytelling sessions.

The class sessions – presented by Studio 2424 – are designed to nurture children’s music aptitude by engaging them with their families in singing and movement activities which help attune the ear, refine the voice, and develop an ease with rhythmical movement and expression. 2012 Tybee Is. Pirate Festival, Pirate Parade, Oct. 4-7

Get ready for swashbuckling fun: the 2012 Tybee Is. Pirate Festival –  includes Live Music, Children’s Activities & a Pirate Victory Parade – is set for on October 4-7.

Every Columbus Day weekend, Tybee Island transforms into a lively pirate village, celebrating the rich seafaring history that defines the Georgia coast with live music, children’s activities and a Pirate Victory Parade.

The parade will be 3-5pm Sat. Oct   6. This parade is a must for families. Parade participants will pass out treasure along the route.

Highlights for the 2012 Tybee Island Pirate Festival include The Pirate Victory Parade, Scallywags Costume Contest, Little Matey’s Cove, Thieves’ Market and the new Landshark’s Mugs of Mutiny Tavern with live music. The festivities kick off with the coronation at the King and Queen at the Buccaneer Ball at The Crab Shack on Thursday, October 4.

All 2012 Pirate Festival events – with the exception of the parade – will be held at the South Beach parking lot located at Tybrisa Street on Tybee Island, Georgia.

From October 1 through 6, teaching artists of Project 440 will introduce young people to Classical Music via community engagement programs, workshops and in-school residencies.

Founded by three Savannah natives, including Executive Director Joseph Conyers, Assistant Principal Bass of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Project 440 works to strengthen communities through music by educating future generations of musicians and music enthusiasts.

The Project 440 team will perform in eight library branches as part of the Live Oak Public Libraries MusicAlive! Series, present workshops in instrumental instruction for local educational organizations and conduct residency activities at some local schools.

During these FREE MusicAlive! Inspiration Station Discover program, kids will learn how a simple idea can inspire an entire musical composition! Musicians demonstrate how different rhythms, melodies and harmonies combine to create a musical masterpiece. Kids will be introduced to classical music through Project 440’s MusicAlive! series.

Stroller Strides of Savannah Class in Richmond Hill

Stroller Strides® of Savannah – a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies – will offer classes at JF Gregory Park in Richmond Hill starting in October.

Richmond Hill classes – which include power walking and intervals of strength training – will be on MWF at 9:30 am and will begin Monday Oct. 1, 2012 .

Classes are designed for all moms with any level of exercise. Certified instructors will guide you through exercises that will strengthen your bodies and give you the energy you need for the awesome gift of motherhood.

Classes already being held in Savannah

Savannah Classes are 8 AM Tuesdays & Thursdays at Lake Mayer. The first class is free and Stroller Strides of Savannah will offer a special discount if you mention you heard about Stroller Strides of Savannah on SouthernMamas.com!

How can I sign up ?

Register for your free class by clicking here and see all the different class packages offered, by clicking on the “More Info” button in one of the class boxes on the left. You can sign up for any class package when you show up for class, with your instructor.

What if my baby is fussy?

Stroller Strides of Savannah welcomes babies from 6 weeks to any age. Babies are Stroller Strides’ priority, so don’t worry if yours is fussy!

What should I bring to class?

* Water
* A towel, blanket or yoga mat for ab exercises and stretching
* A hat and/or sunscreen
* Anything you may think your baby needs ( snacks, bottles, sippy cups, toys, potty training toilet)
* A stroller ( any stroller will do as long as it does not tip over)

What should I wear to class ?
Wear something comfortable that you can move ( power walk,jog, stretch) easily in. Please make sure that you have comfortable tennis shoes on.

Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to class so you don’t get left behind.
