Help with allergies & sinuses from Ranicki Chiropractic Wellness Center, Pooler

Tuesday, April 15th, 2014

Free allergy checkup SavannahHow can Chiropractic Care help with allergies and sinuses?

Allergy season is here – and millions of Americans are facing months of suffering and living on allergy medicines they’d rather not take. There are , however, a few tricks that work for many people to make allergy season their favorite time of the year.

Consuming a daily tablespoon of local honey is a great trick for allergy sufferers. Since the way this trick works is to slowly expose the body to the pollens the bees collect, it does need to be locally collected and fresh. Check Ranicki Chiropractic Wellness Center’s favorite place to get local honey, Polk’s Plus in Pooler, GA. You can also check out the Farmer’s Market in Forsyth Park on Saturdays.

Since the nervous system influences the immune system’s internal threat alert, improving the communication between your nervous and immune systems thru chiropractic care can be a big help to many allergy sufferers. Details here.

What is Food Day?

Think of it as an Earth Day – for food!

Food Day is a nationwide celebration and a movement toward more healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. This is a national grassroots mobilization backed by some of the most prominent voices for energizing the food movement. Each year in October, people gather at events big and small and from coast to coast in homes, schools, colleges, churches, city halls, farmers’ markets, supermarkets, and elsewhere to raise awareness about food issues and advocate for change.

Craving Change?

Spearheaded by the nonprofit, Center for Science in the Public Interest, Food Day is organized around 5 priorities:
◾Promote safer, healthier diets
◾Support sustainable and organic farms
◾Reduce hunger
◾Reform factory farms to protect the environment

Whole Foods Market opens in Savannah Tues. Aug. 13; Sneak preview tours available for $5 donation

Tuesday, July 16th, 2013

Whole Foods Market Savannah opens Aug. 13 2013

Seems like just a short while ago when I wrote a column entitled “Hurry Whole Foods, Savannah is waiting!” in anticipation of a Whole Foods Market opening in Savannah. That wish is coming true this summer!

Whole Foods Market will open its doors Tuesday, August 13, at 9 AM at 1815 East Victory Drive in Savannah.

The 35,000 square-foot store features an organic salad bar, in-store smoked barbecue, fresh-made gelato, natural body care and nutritional supplements, and a parlor with 8 beers on tap.

Earlier this spring, Whole Foods Market teamed up with Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) for the Savannah Mural Design Challenge. Shoppers can see the winning design, a 20’ X 70’ mural, prominently displayed on the side of the building. The second place design will also be featured on limited-edition bags and t-shirts for sale at the store.

Whole Foods Market will also offer an early look at its newest Georgia store with sneak-preview tours. For a $5 donation to the West Broad Street YMCA’s Growing Edge Community Garden Project, curious customers can take a pre-opening tour of the store at a specified time slot. Tours are scheduled between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, August 9, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, August 10.

Advance registration is required, and the link will be live on July 22: http://savannah.wholefoodsrsvp.com .

Tour attendees will be the first to get a glimpse of the new store, learn a bit about Whole Foods Market and the store highlights, taste samples, and receive a goodie bag. The store opens for business Tuesday, August 13, immediately following a bread-breaking ceremony (Whole Foods Market’s version of a ribbon-cutting,) with city officials and special guests. Customers arriving before 8:30 a.m. receive a free raffle ticket and are automatically entered to win a gift card ranging from five dollars to $500.

We’d love to have Whole Foods Market Savannah partner SouthernMamas.com! So when you check out the new store, please tell them SouthernMamas.com is a great place to spread the word to local parents!

Monday, June 3rd, 2013

St. Andrew's only Savannah private school named one of most challenging schools in the U.S.

Imagine if your child’s daily school lunches were going to come from a popular green-certified restaurant next school year?

That’s the welcome & innovative news at St. Andrew’s School on Wilmington Island, which recently partnered with Thrive Café, Savannah’s first and only green certified restaurant & caterer.

You’re invited: The Great Cloth Diaper Change, Savannah

Saturday, April 13th, 2013

Great Cloth Diaper ChangeCloth diapers have come a long way in the past ten years and The Great cloth Diaper Change event serves to raise awareness of cloth diapering and create some added buzz and excitement, too!

To do this, several people in the cloth diapering movement, including locally owned Bottoms Up (a Savannah owned Home-Based and Online Store providing cloth diapering essentials and education) and the Low Country Real Diaper Circle (The Low Country Real Diaper Circle connects cloth diapering parents for support, education and advocacy in the greater Savannah area including Hinesville) have joined forces with the nonprofit Real Diaper Association to participate in the third annual Great Cloth Diaper Change international event taking place two days before Earth Day on Saturday, April 20,

What: “The Great Cloth Diaper Change” Savannah site event hosted by Bottoms Up and Low Country Real Diaper Circle. The Savannah location will be hosting a Green Baby Expo from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM featuring local vendors and Work at Home Moms. There will be a raffle with many amazing prizes and a diaper walk.

When: Saturday, April 20, 2013. Diaper Change is at 11:00 AM sharp with staging starting at 10:30 AM. The Green Baby Expo is from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Where: The American Legion Post 135 Ballroom – 1108 Bull Street Savannah, GA 31401

Why: Each year billions of disposable diapers enter landfills where it will take hundreds of years for them to decompose. The Great Cloth Diaper Change is an eye-opening experience for thousands of modern parents who choose to use a more planet-friendly alternative or those who deserve to know about their eco-friendly diapering options. It doesn’t hurt that cloth diapering also saves cash-strapped families a substantial amount of money too, especially during these tough economic times.

Stop by to say hello and see why the co-op’s members love to ‘shop the co-op’!

Savannnah Food Co-op has two amazingly simple and totally gratifying recipes on their blog this week – one a craft, the other a treat. Cinnamon Ornaments are made with three simple ingredients – cinnamon, applesauce and glue! Check out the Savannah Food Co-op team’s experience making these with their kids,  included all of their tips for making things easier and more fun. The treat is Chocolate Peppermint Coconut Fudge. We probably don’t need to say anything else, but in case anyone’s not sold yet… it’s pretty darn healthy, takes less than 10 minutes to make and is waaay easier than cookies if you’re looking for a quick bit of edible holiday cheer. (On a personal note, I made this fudge last night for gifts & was trying not to “test” any, but I did & it was so yummy)
