Race Description
The 2012 Crab Crawl 5K Run/Walk is coordinated with the Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival​: great food, entertainment, crafts and rides: The race will help conclude the festival Sunday afternoon. Registration includes entrance to the festival, overall and age group awards, race packet items and shirt.

Race Course
The course will take place inside J.F. Gregory Park. The race will begin in the park at the carnival entrance and encompass the back loop around the wetland trails. Register here.  ​​​​​​​​​​​

The South’s Toughest Bridge Run!!
Come run Savannah’s Talmadge Bridge 1, 2, or 3 times! The bridge is a 1.4 mile span at a 5.5% grade, 196 feet above the Savannah River.

Race Course

5K
The 5K Run / Walk will start on Hutchinson Island, on Wayne Shackleford Road near the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center at 8:15 a.m. All participants will head west, then over the Talmadge Memorial Bridge and will finish back in the Historic District near the Savannah Civic Center
10K
The 10K race will start in front of the Chatham County Court House on Montgomery Street in Savannah’s Historic District at 9 a.m. The run leads participants through Savannah’s Historic District, then heads over the Talmadge Memorial Bridge, and back over for a second time, finishing near the Savannah Civic Center.
Double Pump
The DOUBLE PUMP will start on Hutchinson Island at 8:15 a.m. with the 5K. As soon as you complete the 5K, DOUBLE PUMP participants line up at the 10K start and complete another two trips over the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. You must be able to complete the 5K in 40 minutes or less to participate in DOUBLE PUMP and be at the 10K starting line by 9 a.m. (NO LATE STARTS.) Awards will be given out for your combined times of the 5K and 10K.
1/4 Mile Kids Run
The ¼ mile kids race is FREE and will start at 8 a.m. The race will begin at the finish line near the Savannah Civic Center. Every participant gets an award!

3rd Annual Savannah Reindeer Run/Walk 8K

Proceeds benefit the Rape Crisis Center of Savannah.
The Reindeer Run takes place at the Savannah International Trade Center on Hutchinson Island.
The run is followed by a Chili Cook Off with celebrity Judges: Paula Deen, Jaime Deen, Bobby Deen, Straton Leopold, and Mary Jane Crouch; Leopold’s Ice Cream; Bojangles’ Biscuits; Cornhole Competition ; Lots of kid’s activities and mascots galore!
Trophies for the run and kids competitions.
Winner of the Cornhole Competition stays in the Deen’s Tybee cottage for a weekend. In the freezer will be a gallon of Leopold’s Ice Cream

Sam’s Club will host free women’s health screenings on Saturday, October 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all locations with a pharmacy to Club members and non members. During the screenings, Sam’s Club will give away more than 25,000 breast self-exam kits to help women better detect changes in breast tissue, such as a lump, that might require a follow-up exam by a physician.

The screening program will provide free in-Club tests for both women and men, including:

•Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) screenings to test for potential women’s health issues related to thyroid functionality
•Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) screenings to test for signs of prostate cancer in men
· Blood pressure
· Body mass index (BMI)
•Total cholesterol
•High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol
•Glucose
•Vision testing/screenings

Jan Brett, a popular children’s book author-illustrator, will visit Barnes & Noble at Oglethorpe Mall in Savannah on Oct. 11 for a book signing and special discussion about her new book, Mossy.

The event is free and open to the public. Her specially decorated 45-foot tour bus will be parked in front of Barnes & Noble.

Mossy features an adventure about an amazing turtle with a gorgeous garden growing on her shell. Mossy loses her freedom when Dr. Caroline, a biologist, takes her to live in her Edwardian Museum.

Partners of the Museum will be on hand with various activities, presentations, etc. throughout the day. The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy will be presenting the Marsh Tacky’s history and conservation at 11 a.m. There will also be Guinea and Red Wattle hogs, Buckeye chickens, Sussex chickens and Barred Plymouth Rock chickens on display during the event. Also participating will be the Hilton Head Open Land Trust, Osher Lifelong Learning, Sandbox mobile museum, Audubon with a display and birding on the boardwalk, the Town of Hilton Head, Lowcountry Master Naturalists Association with a display of animals, Sweetgrass basket making demonstrations and many more other participants. Star Night at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn
An introductory program about the night sky. 7 p.m. Oct. 17.
The program will start inside the Discovery House with an overview of the night sky and an introduction to resources to help with your own star gazing. The second half of the program will be held outdoors observing the constellations with your guides. $12 for adults, $7 for child (ages 6-12) for this two-hour program.
Please bring a flashlight and a set of binoculars for the field portion of the program. Attendance is limited and reservations are required.
