Stuffed Animal Sleepover Chick-fil-A Savannah Mall Kids are invited to bring their stuffed animal & to wear their PJs to the Savannah Mall Food Court, 6-8PM Fri. Sept. 18 2015

Chick-fil-A Savannah Mall will have activities and the cow. At 8pm, they will take the last of our furry guests as they embark on a night of adventure for this first ever Stuffed Animal Sleepover.

Saturday morning Chick-fil-A Savannah Mall will have have your favorite friends ready for pickup at 8:45AM.

Spanish tall ship El Galeon San Pelayo will be @ Savannah River Street, Sept. 23-Oct. 4

El Galeon Spanish tall ship visits Savannah 2015The replica of the 16th century Spanish galleon, now renamed the Galeon San Pelayo, will visit Savannah again this year and open her decks to visitors.

These ships were the primary merchant vessels around the world for 300 years, and manned by brave sailors, adventurers and merchants they were able to connect the continents creating the first global trading routes in history. They were an essential tool for the colonization of the New World and what maintained the economy of the Spanish Empire.

This 170ft long, 500 tones vessel will be docked at Rousakis Riverfront Plaza, across from 115 East River Street and will be open for visitors from September 23 2015 to October 4 2015 with the following opening hours:

September 23rd – October 1st from 10am to 6pm; the ship will be featured on Savannah’s 32nd Annual Oktoberfest from October 2nd to October 4th when it will be open from 10am to 10pm

Ticket prices: $10 Adults; $5 Children (5-12 years old); Free for ages 5 & younger. Tickets can be purchased at the pier and through www.elgaleonshop.org.

Shark Tooth Fairy Shark Tooth Tybee Hunt 2015

Beaufort’s beloved Shark Tooth Fairy Mike Harris is teaming up with Tybee promoters to bring the first Tybee Island Kids’ Shark Tooth & Fossil Hunt to Tybee Is.’s North Beach, 10AM Sun. Oct. 18 2015.

Kids will be able to find prehistoric Mako, Bull, Sand, Great White, Snaggletooth, and coveted Megalodon sharks teeth. The “Shark Tooth Fairy” Mike Harris is donating many large Megalodon teeth and will be in attendance to help identify the sharks’ teeth found.

There will be two designated zones to search: one for kids ages 2-6, and one for kids ages 7-12. Accompanying adults are encouraged to enter the designated zone for the 2-6 year olds but not the designated zone for the 7-12 year olds. Parents can watch from outside the designated zone. If you are registering multiple kids from 2-6 and 7-12, your designated zone will be with the 7-12 year olds.

Cost: $20 per child
Ages: 2-12 (no exceptions, please))

Tickets go on sale Wed. Sept. 9 at 8AM. Details here.

Adults are prohibited from assisting kids with hunting teeth.

20,000 teeth will be planted between the two designated zones. Parents are strongly encouraged to only allow your kid to take 20 sharks teeth from the beach. They can keep searching and if they find a larger tooth, they should throw their smallest back.

Free take a kid mountain biking day Savannah 2015 Whitemarsh

 

SEGA SORBA (Southeast Georgia Southern Off-Road Bicycling Association) will host Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day at Whitemarsh Island Nature Preserve in Savannah Sat. Oct 3, 2015 @ 9 AM.

The event will be held in the grassy area in the middle of the park. The group will be taking kids out on the loop.

Parking is being arranged (parking arrangements are in the works, updates to come) with the Islands High School.

Participants are allowed to cross the YMCA property on their trail. This will take you to the paved trail on Whitemarsh Preserve. The two track in the middle of the preserve takes you up to the grassy area where the event will be held.

Tybee Fall Festival Lighthouse 2015 Tybee Island Historical Society will host its “Annual Fall Festival” on Saturday Sept. 26 2015 from noon to 5:00pm in the back field located behind the Light House, 30 Meddin Drive on Tybee Island.

Family-friendly activities including games, prizes, bounce ballroom, obstacle course, cakewalk, hotdogs, popcorn and drinks.

Admission to the festival is free and open to all ages. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Tybee Island Lighthouse. More details here.

FREE Fishing Event for ages 5-12, Tybee Is., Sept. 26

Free Fishing Tybee event for kids 2015 Bring your kids to the FREE Gage Ochsner Kids Fishing & Coastal Water Safety event 8:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Sept. 26 2015 at the Tybee Pier & Pavilion on Tybee Island.

The day of FREE fun for kids ages 5 to 12 is being held in conjunction with Georgia’s free fishing day & is sponsored by Safe Kids Savannah, the Chatham County Aquatic Center, & the Georgia Department of Natural Resources to promote fishing as a family activity & water safety.

This is the sixth consecutive year for the event which is named in memory of Gage Ochsner, M.D., a long-time supporter of Safe Kids Savannah and specifically the Kids Fishing and Coastal Water Safety event.

Pre-registration is required.

Entry is limited and pre-registration is required. No registration will be allowed on the day of the event.

All participants will receive a rod and reel, bait, and tackle box.

Bacon Fest 2015 Savannah Free family events BACON FEST 2015 at Savannah’s Historic River Street

The 2nd annual event will be Sept. 4 & 5 2015. Get ready because select local restaurants will be serving up their mouthwatering bacon creations which will be available for purchase.

Items available include: candied bacon, bacon popcorn, bacon brownies, bacon wrapped shrimp, bacon wrapped hot dogs, bacon cream soda ice cream float, bacon chips with peach jelly dip, pulled pork stuffed bacon poppers, and bacon super chicken bombs. You can find these items and more served up from these local favorites: Ampersand, Andaz Savannah, Bayou Café, Cheesecake Market, Chocolat by Adam Turoni, Feather & Freight, Leopold’s Ice Cream, Savannah Rae’s Popcorn, The Naked Dog, Tondee’s Tavern, Treylor Park, and Wet Willies.

Bacon Fest will kick-off on Fri. Sept. 4 from 4-10PM. September First Friday Fireworks presented by Wet Willie’s begin at 9:30PM. The festivities will continue on Sat. Sept. 5 from 10AM-10PM.

Regional artisans will be set up along Rousakis Plaza displaying a variety of handmade works for festival goers to browse through.

Fall is the best time for planting in our region. Come to Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens in Savannah either of these two days to browse for plants from an array of nursery vendors or shop for garden-related tools and decor from other local suppliers’ booths outdoors.

Take time to sit in on free garden lectures at the Lakeside Pavilion and take a walk in the gardens before you leave. Parking limited and fee charge per vehicle.

Gardenfest is a celebration of everything garden related.

There will be free gardening seminars with speakers such as Norman Winter, Horticulturist writer and Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens Executive Director; Linda Askey, former writer for Southern Living; Joan Calder, author of the children’s book, “Airplanes in the Garden Monarchs take Flight”; Diana Churchill, local birding columnist; and Chris VanCleave, aka the Redneck Rosarian.

Food will be for sale at the Lakeside pavilion and here will be children’s fun and educational activities on the Great Lawn.

Wag-O-Ween 2015: Trick or Treating for your dog in Savannah, Oct. 24

Wag-O-Ween Halloween for dogs Savannah 2015

Take Rover trick-or-treating during Savannah’s 10th Annual Wag-O-Ween 2015 event, which will be Saturday Oct. 24 from noon to 5PM

Registration will be at the Armstrong House located at 447 Bull Street.

Participants will receive a map indicating the more than 100 businesses where they may Trick or Treat with their canine companion. There will also be a costume contest and a raffle for some great prizes.

Last year, this event had 1000 participants from the greater Savannah area and that’s expected to increase this year. This event generates greatly needed funds for local pet rescue organizations.

If you’ve never taken your little trick-or-treaters to this non-scary Halloween event, make sure this is the year you do so!

Walk with your trickster down Oatland’s friendly forest trail to meet and gather goodies from our friendly animal characters.

Let Mother Earth show you the way and sit with Mother Goose as she tells her favorite rhymes. Face painting, spooky crafts, and many more monstrous activities await your arrival. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

11 am until 3 pm, the festival draws approximately 10,000 people and provides attendees with a taste of ethnic Jewish cuisine as well as family entertainment ranging from music, dance, magic and puppet shows.

There is not an admission for this event, but once you have smelled the aroma of all the wonderful cuisine, you will want to purchase tickets for food.  The tickets are only $1.00 each and there are two ticket booths on the festival grounds.

Leopold's Ice Cream Birthday Block Party 2015 Savannah Leopold’s Ice Cream in Savannah celebrates 96 years of tasty memories @ their Annual Birthday Block Party Saturday, August 15.

Come to 212 East Broughton St. in Savannah for music, games, kid’s activities, contests and dancing in the street. You can even wear your best 1950’s soda shop attire and enter our costume contest.

In recognition of Leopold’s Ice Cream 96 years in Savannah, and as a way to thank the community for long and loyal support, Leopold’s will offer ninety-six cent single scoops all day.

The shop opens at 11 a.m., the block party starts at noon. The party continues until 7pm.

Meet special guest Lenny Munchompolous, star of Leopold’s brand new children’s book, “Leopold’s New Scoop.” After a reading of the book by author and soda jerk, Nick Cannon, at 3:30pm, there’ll be a special surprise for kids.

This year’s DIRTT Kid’s Zone will feature arts, crafts, games and a drop-off point for school supplies, gently used school uniforms and non-perishable food items for Blessings in a Bookbag (blessingsinabookbag.org). Drop off your donation and receive a coupon for a BOGO scoop of Leopold’s Ice Cream!

Kids (young and young at heart) can help blow out the candles and cut the birthday cake at 3 p.m. Free and fun for the entire family.

Crafting under the trees @ Fort McAllister, Richmond Hill

Fort McAllister Richmond Hill Fort McAllister, a 1,725-acre Georgia state park and home to the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy, will host Crafting Under The Trees, a craft make-and-take for children ages 8 and older, 9AM Sat. Aug. 15 2015.

Each child will make three different crafts. Cost: $3 per child materials fee and a Park Pass is required. Following the class, you may stay and enjoy the playground and picnic area. Reservations are required due to lack of space.

ABOUT FORT MCALLISTER:
Located south of Savannah on the banks of the Ogeechee River, Fort McAllister showcases the best-preserved earthwork fortification of the Confederacy. The earthworks were attacked seven times by Union ironclads but did not fall until 1864 — ending Gen. William T. Sherman’s “March to the Sea.” Visitors can explore the grounds with cannons, a furnace, bombproof, barracks, palisades and more, while a Civil War museum contains artifacts, a video and gift shop.

Butterflies Savannah Mall 2015

During Summer 2015, experience a live interactive butterfly house at the Savannah Mall, July 3-Aug. 2 2015. Admission is $3 per person and children 2 years-old and younger are free with the purchase of one paid admission.

After exploring the conservatory, everyone has the option to purchase an Adopt-a-butterfly kit to watch caterpillars grow and hatch into beautiful butterflies. For every kit sold, the Savannah Mall will be donating $1 to the benefit the animals at Oatland Island Wildlife Center. There will also be a free craft activity where kids can create their very own flapping wing butterfly.

The LIVE Butterfly Exhibit will be located in the Center Court of the Savannah Mall, from 10 am to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon until 6 p.m. on Sunday.
