Atlanta family summer trip? See Eric Carle exhibit & live performance

Monday, June 13th, 2016

EricCarle“I See A Story: The Art of Eric Carle”

Planning a trip to Atlanta this summer?

We just got back from a whirlwind weekend there and highly recommend checking on the Eric Carle exhibit on display now at the High Museum of Art in a show called “I See a Story.”

Kids will enjoy getting a closer look at the beloved children’s book author and some of the original work that became treasured books like “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?”

“I See A Story: The Art of Eric Carle” is on display at the High Museum through Jan. 8 2017.

Learn more here.

pancakes_0“Pancakes, Pancakes” Eric Carle musical

If you take your kids to the Eric Carle exhibit, you must, must, must also go see “Pancakes, Pancakes” show inspired by the Carle children’s book of the same name at the Alliance Theater Hertz Stage (located next to the exhibit)

The original music and high-energy performances are so fun and kid-friendly in this less than an hour long tribute to Carle’s work. When we went, the audience included toddlers up to older kids. My 7 & 9 year old were particularly in awe of the music and the performance by the 14-year-old show star Matt Alea, who plays Jack.

This must-see play – presented in conjunction with the High Museum of Art exhibition I See a Story: The Art of Eric Carle – runs until July 10 2016.

Last minute summer vacation: Universal Studios Orlando

Monday, May 9th, 2016

Version 2Summer is just around the corner, a time for barbecues, baseball & family vacations. If you’re not planning an elaborate trip this year, consider a last minute getaway to Universal Studios Orlando.

You may be thinking there isn’t enough time to plan a theme park vacation? Or what about the sweltering Florida heat? Good news! There is still plenty of time; Universal Orlando vacations aren’t nearly as complex as Walt Disney World. And Two Sisters Travel has lots of ideas to help you keep cool during the hot Florida summers.

Just recently, on a last minute whim, Two Sisters Travel’s Tara McCoy’s family visited Universal for a long weekend and LOVED it. She booked their hotel 3 weeks before arrival and surprised the kiddos, so this can absolutely be done and they made some priceless memories, too!

Here’s why we think Universal Studios Orlando makes the perfect last-minute summer vacation.

Advance dining planning is NOT necessary. Unlike Walt Disney World vacations, a successful Universal Orlando trip doesn’t require planning 6 months (or more) in advance to grab dining reservations. At Universal,  you can easily score top table service restaurant reservations only a few weeks before travel & most same day!

Flexible itineraries. If you don’t particularly enjoy scheduling your rides & attractions, then you’ll love the flexibility of the Universal Express Pass. This is allows you to bypass the standby line and go straight to the front of line. This feature is NOT included with general park admission and can be a costly upgrade but, when you stay at Deluxe Universal Orlando resorts it’s COMPLIMENTARY!

Smaller scale = less intimidating & confusing. Universal Orlando Resort includes two theme parks, Universal Studios & Universal Islands of Adventure, that are joined together by City Walk. And with only 4 onsite resorts, compared to 25 at Walt Disney World, pre-vacation planning & navigating at Universal Orlando Resort isn’t nearly as complicated or intimidating as their Orlando neighbor.

Availability of last minute deals. Universal Orlando discounts & promotions are ongoing. This means that you can often still score deals right up until travel. Of course, these offers are based on availability.

Pool hopping IS allowed. Florida summers are HOT, that’s no lie. But one very cool feature about staying onsite at Universal Orlando is pool hopping! It’s not only allowed but, encouraged. Cool off mid-day or make an entire day of it, there are great poolside restaurants (& bars) to keep you fed and hydrated. The kids will LOVE the pool slide & lazy river at Cabana Bay Beach Resort, and everyone will enjoy the underwater audio at Hard Rock Resort.

Fun for everyone. Universal Orlando IS a destination that everyone in the family can enjoy! The parks aren’t just for Harry Potter fans! Little ones will love character greetings with the Minions, Seuss Landing, and the interactive playgrounds. Your elementary-age kids will have plenty to enjoy with attractions themed from Shrek, Transformers, & other movies. Adrenaline-seeking fans will love all of the thrill rides.

When staying at an onsite hotel at Universal Orlando Resort, you’ll enjoy early park admission and complimentary transportation, Deluxe Resorts even include complimentary Express Pass tickets.

New this summer: you can be among the first to experience Universal Orlando’s newest resort, Sapphire Falls, and receive up to a $150 hotel dining credit when you book a package by May 30.

So, who’s ready to experience Universal Orlando Resort this summer? Get a no-obligation vacation quote online & let’s make the most of the summer!

Pristine, affordable family vacation spot: Holiday Inn Resort on Jekyll Island

Sunday, February 28th, 2016

Holiday Inn Resort Jekyll Island

An oceanside, spacious hotel room on Jekyll Island that comes with a sunrise or two. You can’t beat that.

Plus, ocean views; newly refurbished digs; an outdoor oceanside pool; baby pool and hot-tub; al-fresco restaurant where kids eat free; easy beach access; a playground with picnic tables; rental bikes; wind-sculpted trees; fire pit; fitness center; and guest laundry facilities.

Oh and the place dog-friendly. How I love Holiday Inn Resort on nearby Jekyll Island, which is  an easy, roughly 90-minute drive south on I-95 from Savannah.

You’ll fall in love with Holiday Inn Resort at Jekyll Island at check-in thanks to this welcoming three-story lobby awash in ocean colors and a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows

Affordable family getaway for a week or weekend

This Golden Isles hotel offers a truly relaxing retreat. Because Jekyll Is. is so invitingly undeveloped compared to Hilton Head or St. Simons. You don’t leave Jekyll needing a vacation from your vacation.

This refurbished two-story hotel alongside the Atlantic Ocean is the ideal spot to relish nature and spend time in it with your family.

The island bike path winds alongside wind-sculpted trees in the lawn between the hotel and beach. The hotel’s elegant dark-bottom pool with sleek lounge chairs is surrounded by a Plexiglass fence so you are always within view of the ocean.

In addition to standard, spacious rooms, the Holiday Inn Resort on Jekyll Island also offers kitchen suites perfect for families who want more room and to save money by eating in, but don’t want to rent a house or condo.

Suites include a kitchen with full-size fridge, stove-top, sink, dishes, utensils – everything you need so you can enjoy meals looking for dolphins from your balcony. A door separates the bedroom and living/dining room area so you don’t have to go to bed when the kids do.

Chances are you’ll get a room with an ocean view as 80 percent of the resort’s 157 guestrooms face the ocean.

Kids staying at the Holiday Inn Resort eat free at the hotel’s outdoor restaurant which overlooks the pool and ocean. A portion of the restaurant is enclosed during cold weather. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Dog-friendly

Not only are Jekyll Island’s beaches dog-friendly so is Holiday Inn Resort at Jekyll Island.

Canine guests are even given a treat bag at check-in complete with doggie clean-up baggies.

If you’re traveling with a dog, request a pet-friendly room when making your reservation. Some rooms do not permit pets.
