Telfair Museums in Savannah will have a Virtual Art Start featuring William Kwamena-Poh on Thursday May 21 2020.

Parents and children are invited to this online version of Telfair’s Art Start, for pre-K children and their parents and caregivers. This month’s program is based on the exhibition The Journey is Mine, Chapter One by William Kwamena-Poh. The online program will include a downloadable activity, and the artist will give a brief video welcome to families and tell one of the stories he heard growing up in Ghana.

From more than 7,000 works in the museum’s permanent collection, Telfair presents ‘Collecting Impressionism,’ including some of the finest paintings in the United States. Children and families will be invited to create their own miniature Impressionist works and go on a scavenger hunt throughout the exhibition. Local artists will be on hand to lead plein air painting demonstrations in front of the museum, and local musicians will provide a program of Impressionist music in the auditorium at 2pm.

This popular Savannah summer camp @ Savannah’s Clay Spot is a unique opportunity for children to work as actual artist in a professional ceramic studio. Each camp week has a different fun theme. Children create at the pottery wheel and use several hand building methods.

Toddler Time  – held on some Thursday mornings March-May – is the perfect morning out.

Geared towards toddlers and their caregivers, the morning will begin with story time or musical education. Next, art exploration will follow then sensory exploration and open play with a focus on socialization. Complimentary coffee will be provided.
