Portfolio Builder Youth Drawing

This class is designed to help upper elementary and middle school students improve their drawing skills. Students will develop an understanding of foundational drawing; a great class for students to develop their art portfolios.

Educators & students in grades K-12 are invited to participate in the Georgia Day Parade on Fri. Feb. 21, 2020. As part of the annual commemoration of the founding of the Georgia colony by James Edward Oglethorpe, a tradition dating back to the earliest years of the colony’s founding, students, local dignitaries, musicians, & costumed performers will march through Savannah’s historic squares. Night at the Museum Savannah 2020 Coastal Heritage

Get tickets now for Coastal Heritage Society’s 2020 “Night at the Museum” event on Sat. Jan. 25 2020 @ Savannah History Museum, 303 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

The annual event takes visitors through night guard training and then on a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum.

Guests will be able to interact with historic characters from Savannah History Museum’s exhibits as they appear to magically come to life. This year’s characters include: Casimir Pulaski, Alida Harper-Fowlkes, Susie King Taylor, and many more!

This popular annual event consists of a 90-minute interactive program in the museum. Guests will have the option to choose from two time slots for the program: 5-6:30PM or 6:30-8PM. Event participants will also have two opportunities to view the film “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb” at 3 pm and 8 pm. The 98-minute film screening is optional and seating is first come, first served.

Tickets are $12 per person for guests ages 18 months and older. CHS members will receive a discounted ticket rate of $10. Pre-registration for the event is required and tickets for each time slot can be purchased online here.

Along with a silent auction, enjoy an oyster roast, Lowcountry fare and cocktails as you mix and mingle with local artists. Take in the breathtaking waterside views as the choir from Pin Point’s very own Sweetfield of Eden Baptist Church will thrill and delight you with their spirited sounds. Arts & Oysters is not to be missed.

A meet and greet and auction will feature several local artists including Bellamy Murphy, Sharon McIntosh, Jami Ganem, Curtis Bartone, Laura Till Barton and more. Proceeds from the auction will support educational programs at Pin Point Heritage Museum.

Art & Oysters will be held on Thurs. Feb. 6, 2020 at Pin Point Heritage Museum from 6-9PM.

Learn how to use a compass, tie sailing knots, how to use a sailing whistle, and sing silly sea shanties after a long day at sea. The cost of this program includes one sailing whistle and length of rope, which is yours to keep. If you have your own compass, feel free to bring it with you.

Unleash your creativity and join Savannah’s Jepson Center in their studios every day for artmaking projects for all ages!

Work at your own pace and comfort level through an array of creative mediums such as watercolors, collage, calligraphy, origami, coloring books (for adults, too!), and much more. Each month features a special project designed to connect with a specific exhibition at the museum. A studio assistant is always on hand to answer questions and assist guests. Drop-In Studio is open year round and perfect for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Telfair Museums in Savannah offers two youth classes for Winter/Early Spring 2020. Classes below are located in the Jepson Center at 207 W. York St., Savannah.

Portfolio Builder Youth Drawing
Wednesdays, Feb. 5–March 4, 4:30–6PM
For ages: 10–14 yrs
Members $100 / non-members $125

This class is designed to help upper elementary and middle school students improve their drawing skills. Students will develop an understanding of foundational drawing; a great class for students to develop their art portfolios.

Videogame Development
Mondays, March 2–30, 4:30–6PM
For ages: 10–16 yrs
Members $100 / non-members $125

In this five-week class, students will build their own videogames through exploration and play while learning the programming tool Game Maker. This class is suited for beginner- to intermediate level participants with adventurous personalities. No programming experience is required.

Telfair Museums continues to lead the conversation in art and technology with its 13th installment of the PULSE Art + Technology Festival.

The 2020 festival will take place from January 23-26 at Telfair’s Jepson Center.

PULSE 2020 showcases artists and creatives who demonstrate how technology can either work against us or help us solve global problems.

The multi-day event invites individuals of all ages to enjoy exciting exhibitions, screenings, lectures, workshops, and educational events. The exhibition Machines of Futility features interactive works that question technology’s usefulness, while installations in the museum’s TechSpace titled Second Nature connect virtual and augmented reality, and games with the natural world.

PULSE Opening Night Reception and Artist Panel @ Jepson Center

Opening lecture and reception is free to museum members, non-member tickets cost $8.
The festival kicks off on Wed. Jan. 22 at 6PM with a panel moderated by PULSE Curator Harry Delorme and visual artists Neil Mendoza, Alicia Eggert and R. Luke Dubois. Three noted visiting artists will discuss their work and how art can spur dialogue and self-reflection on our culture’s dependence on technology.

Designing the Future: A Climate for Change, an immersive evening presented by W Projects @ Jepson Center

Free admission
This immersive evening focuses on technology helping our world face the results of climate change. The experience will include a short film screening, expert speakers from Perkins and Will, Gulfstream Aerospace, and the Georgia Institute of Technology. An interactive reception will feature virtual reality stations, interactive art projects, and hands on experiences.

Chatham County Free Family Day/STEAM Expo @ Jepson Center

Free admission is for Chatham County residents and students currently enrolled at area colleges only. Proof of residency/enrollment is required for admission.
